Election Opinion Polls Interpretation
Zeman, Michal ; Vinopal, Jiří (advisor) ; Linek, Lukáš (referee)
The thesis examines election polls media coverage with the goal to understand the structure of the polls media coverage, describe its problems, and contribute to their elimination. Using the framework of news values and commercial news values, the matter is first examined by content analysis on the case of the 2021 elections to the Czech Chamber of Deputies online media coverage. The polls are found to be extensively covered by the Czech online media. The articles are mostly based on the game metaframe with the metaphors of horse race and theater, limiting the voter agency. The greatest emphasis is assigned to calling winners of the polls, changes in the support, and 5% threshold. Unfortunately, most of the poll results are misinterpreted; the common mistake is the illusion of certainty attributed to the poll results. The content analysis findings are adopted by the experimental poll misinformation corrector design. The corrector is a human assisted Twitter robot that finds relevant media tweets about polls and corrects potential misinformation via Twitter replies. The corrector - detecting the illusion of certainty when declaring poll leaders, and results around 5% - aims to educate the actors and contribute to improving the poll media coverage.
The link between environmentally friendly behavior and social status
Pourová, Barbora ; Richter, Eva (advisor) ; Vinopal, Jiří (referee)
In my diploma thesis I wanted to find out how environmentally friendly behaviour and social status are related. More precisely, how Czech people perceive individual examples of environmentally friendly behavior; whether they think they increase social status, or instead associate them with saving money and/ or protecting the environment. I conducted a survey on this topic. Czechs perceive activities of environmentally friendly behavior differently than abroad. Even such activities as reducing electricity consumption (2nd place) or reducing water consumption (4th place) were considered to increase the social status of the executor, alongside more financially demanding activities such as installing solar panels (1st place) and buying an electric or hybrid car (3rd place), which with its position confirmed the results from abroad.

The aim is to describe the differences in attitudes between married and unmarried people on the role of man and woman in the family in 2020 and also in general between 2013 and 2020. In the first part, the concept of family is first explained and the situation regarding the current family is shown. Towards the end of the first chapter, the situation regarding marriage and cohabitation in the Czech Republic is shown. The next chapter focuses on the general division of roles within the family and outlines gender issues. Furthermore, it shows the context of the Czech Republic since the end of World War II in terms of the influence on the division of gender roles and attitudes toward their division. The issue of two-career partnerships is also mentioned here. And then the evolution of views on the division of roles in the family since the 1990s is demonstrated. The next part is already focused on data analysis and interpretation within the secondary analysis. In this bachelor thesis, research on appropriate texts is conducted. It is supplemented by data...
Public opinion on third culture kids in the current Czech society
Millerová, Anna-Marie ; Malvotová, Pavla (advisor) ; Vinopal, Jiří (referee)
The master's thesis deals with the topic of stereotyping of (adult) third culture kids, also known as (A)TCKs, in the current Czech society. The aim of this work is to examine how (A)TCKs are perceived by Czechs, particularly in the context of stereotyping. The author mainly focuses on verifying preselected areas of potential stereotyping of (A)TCKs. She is particularly interested in whether (A)TCKs are perceived in a more positive or a more negative manner. She furthermore deepens her research by focusing on the role of sociodemographic factors of respondents in relation to stereotyping of (A)TCKs. Since it is an empirical thesis, the author chose to verify the aforementioned topics via her own research executed on 500 respondents from the Czech Republic. Data has been collected using quota sampling, the sample itself is quasi-representative. Results of the analysis indicate that (A)TCKs in the Czech Republic are perceived more positively in certain aspects (in the case of capitals, personal characteristics and traits) and quite neutrally in others (like the Bogardus social distancing scale). We may say that in these terms people tend to assign more positive stereotypes to (A)TCKs. Nonetheless, this result might have been influenced by questionnaire construction. Further on, the analysis of effect...
Destigmatization of mental illness and psychohygiene in Czech society
Římková, Karolína ; Vinopal, Jiří (advisor) ; Podaná, Zuzana (referee)
(in English): The diploma thesis is focused on the attitude of Czech society towards depressive disorders and practiced ways of psychohygiene. The aim was to verify changes in attitude over time and to identify specific predictors that contribute to this change. The main hypothesis is based on the current situation where there is an increase in the number of people who have the disease and those who take antidepressants, so a less stigmatizing attitude can be expected. The verification of the hypothesis of the diploma thesis was based on a questionnaire survey of a sample of 1022 respondents. Attitudes were analyzed using the RIBS scale and multiple regression analysis. The results confirmed the influence of age, experience with mental health education and the use of antidepressants on attitude. Other parts of the analysis focused on phenomena related to stigma such as mental literacy and lifestyle. Based on the questionnaire survey, it was possible to map the destigmatization of social attitudes and current trends in mental health care. In conclusion, the thesis deals with recommendations that are based on the findings of the survey and could support the destigmatization of mental illness and depression in the future.
Public Opinion Surveys in China
Smolařová, Lucie ; Vinopal, Jiří (advisor) ; Šubrt, Jiří (referee)
Based on the examination of the relevant literature and findings from academic survey research, this Master's thesis focuses on the reflection of the political development in public opinion research in China and on the contour of local collective opinion. Its theoretical part stems from James Bryce's theory of the development of public opinion and from the writings of Irving Crespi who noted that the extent and role of public opinion research in different political regimes rely on the acceptance of public opinion in the political process and on the basis of governmental legitimacy. The increasing pluralization of public opinion, which is the result of the processes tied to Chinese economic liberalization and which has been reflected in the official ideology and in the growing emphasis on public opinion polling claimed by the government, is still outweighed by the inclination of the Chinese Confucian society towards authoritarian leadership. The liberalization process is further reflected in the extent of public opinion research; however, recent studies show that the results from public opinion polls are not reported objectively and survey responses of Chinese respondents are strongly influenced by the political regime. Men and their lifeworld in beer advertisements
Svobodová, Lucie ; Lupač, Petr (advisor) ; Vinopal, Jiří (referee)
This thesis deals with the widely discussed topic of gender stereotypes. Most of the attention of experts and also the general public in this area is focused on the issues of stereotypes associated with women's roles. This work attempts to inspect the other - the men's - side of gender stereotypes. The aim is to reconstruct the male stereotypes and their lifeworld in commercials which from this perspective focus on perhaps still typically masculine product: beer. The presence of traditional stereotypes of male and female roles is observed at the same time. The research problem is solved through a content analysis of beer advertisements and reconstruction of the lifeworld of men in them.

Křap, Tomáš ; Duffková, Jana (advisor) ; Vinopal, Jiří (referee)
This study is about football hooliganism. In these days every single person meets the sport practically every day. Sport became the one of the all-socially important spheres of the life. We can say that the sport became the very important institution through the twentieth century. This study engages in football, resp. in problem of football hooliganism. Where it came from? How does the situation look in different European countries? Last but not least, the study search for motives and causes of football hooliganism. People which come to the stadiums and other sport facilities are very heterogeneous mix of individuals and groups. Sports spectators can mutually differ in age, sex, nationality but also in social economic status. We can observe this difference in their value orientations. This heterogenity of value orientations can project to reciprocal interactions and it can haunt to opinion conflicts so as attitude conflicts. It is necessary to ask, where comes this people from, it means from which social stratas, which are the main causes of their behavior (personality, influence of family, influence of school, influence of contemporaries), are they interested in sport or they only need discharge frustration of their life, why did they aim at football etc.
