VOKURKOVÁ, Štěpánka
This dissertation thesis explores an area of social work focused on children with a hearing impairment. It provides a critical review of the available literature on the discussed form of disability, exploring the condition from a health perspective. It positions the need of child in the centre of the discussion, considering how a hearing impairment affects a child´s psychomotor development as well as how their learning might be affected in the Czech education system. The main part of tha paper then presents the support framework for children with hearing impairment, discussing the need from the perspective of policy and service provision. The final part presents case studies created with the support of an organisation supporting children with hearing impairments. Adopting the perspective of a worker of institution, it considers the individual specific need and proposes a support plan within the limits of their competencies.
