The algal flora of Acadia National Park, Maine
VESELÁ, Jana
This study presents freshwater and brackish algal flora of Acadia National Park, Maine, U.S.A., a small park on the coast of New England. Prior to this study, there has been no examination conducted on freshwater and brackish algae restricted to the park boundaries. Over 200 samples, from 119 localities within the park, were collected and examined using standard microscopic techniques. A total of 160 genera of algae (from 12 algal phyla) were observed in the samples, including 140 new generic records for the park. Based on the similar studies, the high number of occurring algal genera in the park indicates an exceptionally high diversity for an area of this size.
The diatoms of Acadia National Park, Maine, with a detailed account of the Eunotiophycidae
VESELÁ, Jana
Taxonomy of diatoms (Bacillariophyceae) was studied in 45 samples from Acadia National Park, Maine, U.S.A. Approximately 550 diatom taxa in 87 genera were observed in the samples from various habitats (i.e., lakes, streams, wetlands, wetwalls and brackish habitats). The most species rich group of diatoms, Eunotiophycidae, was studied in detail, resulting in a detailed documentation of 81 species and varieties with 18 probably new taxa.
Histological investigation of placenta
VESELÁ, Jana
Histological examination of the placenta The thesis on the topic "Histological examination of the placenta" is divided into two parts - theoretical and practical. The theoretical part deals with description, development and function of the placenta. Emphasis is put on laboratory processing and examination of the placenta. Placental pathology, including inflammation of the placenta, defects in maturation and circulatory disorders of the placenta are described. The comparison of fetal disorders caused by selected malfunctions of the placenta, i.e. placental inflammation (due to infection by bacteria and viruses) and developmental disorders of the placenta with fetal hypoxia. Mothers suffering form diabetes mellitus may develop diabetic placentopathy consequently endangering the fetus. In the practical part three objectives are mentioned. The first objective is to master the methodology of laboratory processing of the placenta. This objective was accomplished, because I prepared 25 histological sections all by myself and I partially prepared 65 sections. The second objective is to define possible errors during laboratory processing of the placenta. I achieved this objective by recording all the possible errors I could witness. The third objective is to present some pathological findings in the placenta. This objective was met by taking photographs of the findings and describing them in the theoretical part. The presumed hypothesis that it is possible to diagnose inflammation of the placenta, hypoxic changes, degenerative changes and manifestations of placental malfunction on the basis of laboratory processing was confirmed.I applied the methodology of laboratory processing of the placenta which is being used in laboratories of the pathological department in the České Budějovice hospital. The results can be used both in practice and in teaching.
Optimization of cytogenetic techniques in a model aphid, \kur{Diuraphis noxia} (Aphididae)
VESELÁ, Jana
Several cytogenetical methods for investigation of karyotyp were used in an aphid species, Diuraphis noxia (Hemiptera: Aphididae). These methods (FISH with telomeric probe, FISH with rDNA probe, FISH with histone probe and silver staining) were optimized for application to a sister group Adelgidae, where they could be useful for better differentiation of species in particular stages of their complicated life cycle.
The Delivery of the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum in a Present-day Preschool
VESELÁ, Jana
The theoretical part of the thesis focuses on the current pedagogical findings and conditions in the pre-school education. It points out the disproportion between what is demanded by the RVPV (Framework Education Programme of the Czech Republic) and psychosocial conditions in kindergartens {--} increasing number of children in classes. The practical part surveys the actual state of the psychosocial conditions in kindergartens focusing on numbers of children in classes.
Ethological manifestation at the beef cows bred in the system without market milk production
VESELÁ, Jana
The aim of the work was evaluate on the dynamic of live performance at the beef cows in the system of breeding cows withour market milk production in the subnountain areas. The chosem method was a direct group observation within ten-minute intervals. The longest duration of pasture was in autumn 59.6 % of the day and the shortest in winter 30.8 % of the day. The activity of lying depended on standing and decreased from spring period 15.3 % of the day on 5.7 % of the day in winter period. The observation flows to the fact, that breeding of the livestock from welfare and adaptability herd of view is suitable in sub-mountain areas.
