The Role of Women in William Shakespeare's Roman Tragedies
Válková, Michaela ; Nováková, Soňa (advisor) ; Znojemská, Helena (referee)
THESIS ABSTRACT The thesis critically examines the historical and cultural circumstances of women in early modern England and the role of women in Shakespeare's Roman tragedies. In early modern England, men are said to have been participating in the public sphere of the political discourse and women were relegated to the domestic sphere; henceforth, the role of women in Shakespeare's Roman plays tends to be interpreted as supportive because of the plays' dominant political focus. To challenge the prevailing discourse, I consider female characters in Shakespeare's Julius Caesar, Coriolanus, Titus Andronicus and Antony and Cleopatra. My thesis argues that even though the Roman plays focus on the political, public sphere which tends to be the domain of men, women mostly actively participate, or express desire to actively participate, in the Roman plays' plots, philosophical contemplations, and political scheming. Cleopatra, Volumnia, Portia, Calpurnia, and Tamora are such characters. Only the less central female characters may embody the passive ideal of a woman confined in the domestic sphere, as exemplified by Lavinia, Virgilia, and Octavia. The findings show that women were recommended to stay in the domestic sphere, but many of them, especially upper-class ladies, participated actively in the political...
Developing the Image of the Virgin Queen: The Writings and Portraits of Queen Elizabeth I
Válková, Michaela ; Nováková, Soňa (advisor) ; Znojemská, Helena (referee)
THESIS ABSTRACT This thesis focuses on the self-representation of Elizabeth I. Elizabeth I ruled England during tumultuous time - her father Henry VIII separated England from the Catholic church and Elizabeth was faced with attempts of invasions and plots. Despite that, the Elizabethan Era is remembered as the Golden Age for the flourishing of art. One of the ways Elizabeth managed to consolidate power was her self-representation. Elizabeth turned herself into the Virgin Queen and created an unparalleled symbol out of herself as a result of clever manipulation of Tudor aesthetics and gender expectations. This thesis follows the development of Elizabeth's self-representation. The first chapter concentrates on the historical circumstances which formed Elizabeth's mindset. It discusses Elizabeth's complicated family background, the rule of her half-sister Mary during which Elizabeth was faced with treason charges, the ongoing pressure on her to marry, and finally the decision to relinquish her private life in favour of her body politics and transform herself into the Virgin Queen. The first chapter particularly tries to demonstrate how noteworthy events shaped Elizabeth's rhetorical strategies and self-representation techniques. The second chapter traces Elizabeth's representation via her portraits. Opening...

Diploma thesis deals with microscopic traffic model of the streets Veveří and Kounicova including adjacent road network. This model was created in software Aimsun based on maps, the results of the directional survey, traffic intensity at junctions and signal plans. Elaborated model of the current state location of interest was calibrated according to the traffic intensities on the entrance and exit roads. They have also been designed and created three possible variants of the solution streets Veveří and Kounicova. All variants were finally compared and evaluated.

Monitoring of thermophilic organism in evaporation systems
VÁLKOVÁ, Michaela
Study deals with the determination of thermophilic and heat-resistant microorganisms in samples of skim milk. Furthermore, the problems of determining the thermophilic microorganisms in samples of whey. The most important microorganisms causing spoilage of milk and dairy products include certain species of the genera Bacillus and Clostridium. Thermophilic microorganisms have optimum growth temperature between 55 and 60 ° C. Removed material (skimmed milk and whey) was plated onto agar GTK and cultured in an incubator for 3 days at 55 ° C. Heat resistant microorganisms are characterized by resistance to heat. Prior to inoculation was necessary to inactivate other microorganisms by pasteurizing milk (85 ° C, 10 minutes). The inoculated Petri's dishes were cultured for 3 days at 55 ° C. Analysing removed material, it was found that the number of thermophilic micro-organisms in samples of skim milk does not exceed an internal limit the value of 3000 colonies per 1 ml or a gram of product (value determined Southbohemian dairy Madeta a.s.). The number of heat-resistant microorganisms has not exceeded the limit value of 2000 micro-organisms per 1 milliliter or gram. The resulting numbers of thermophilic microorganisms in samples of whey were almost identical to the results provided by Madeta a.s. factory Plana nad Luznici. The results show that after the introduction of new sanitary measures numbers of thermophilic and heat-resistant microorganisms fell sharply.
