The present state of listening activities in elementary school music lessons, and didactic suggestions for the integration of these activities in school teaching The thesis looks into the employment of listening activities at contemporary Czech schools. Its primary aim is to boost the motivation of school children to listen to classical music by means of choosing their preferred pieces in music lessons. The thesis consists of two parts, the theoretical part and the practical part. The theoretical part analyses available sources connected with listening activities, such as materials for teachers, and textbooks certified by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports as one of possible tools. It looks into the place of listening activities in the contemporary Czech curriculum, and presents also information about listening from the music therapy point of view. The practical part analyses the present situation in the employment of listening activities at our schools. It detects spontaneous preferences of pupils in listening to classical music, and suggests how to use these spontaneous preferences to enhance the quality of music education at school, and build and encourage positive attitude of school children to classical music. Absolute Pitch: Theoretical Concept and Practical Issues

The thesis aims at complex assessment of absolute pitch both theoretically and practically. It describes the functioning of ear and main issues related to processing of sound and tone height. In addition, it clarifies related terms stemming from musical psychology. Especially, it endeavours to identify causes of absolute pitch and factors which form it. The thesis surveys several phenomena connected with absolute pitch, for example with synesthesia, and with other aspects such as occurrence of absolute pitch among population. More practical part of research consists in a questionaire used for verification of hypotheses related to absolute pitch. The thesis uses not only the Czech but especially English written literature which has not yet been used in such a scope in the Czech musical research.
Musical fairy tail as a motivating and integrating mean working with the children's choir

The diploma thesis "The musical fairytale as a motivating and integrating mean working with the children's choir" deals with a musical fairytale and its influence during the lessons of the children's choir Kvítek by Václav Havel Elementary School. The theoretical part of the diploma thesis introduces with the history of a fairytale as a literary genre and with its types. The fairytale has been known since the period of antiquity. At that time, the first stories based on the mystical creatures were developed. Later, they were distributed all around the world. Next part focuses on the musical fairytale which belongs to a literary fairytale. It is enriched with a musical element that contributes to the development of children's musical skills while performing the fairytale. The last chapters of the thesis deal with voice training and the didactic process of songs training. The aim of this thesis is to practice a fairytale called Hrníčkové kouzlo with the children's choir Kvítek via an experiment and to find out how the fairytale influences either the children's choir or the audience immediately after watching it. Musical Attitudes of Children and Their Belief System

4 Summary Exploring the musical preferences in relation to other aspects of human life has a long tradition. The present work is focused on exploring musical preferences with regard to personal value system. The research was designed as mixed method using questionnaire and semi-structured interview. The research sample consisted of 18 pupils aged 16 years. An important part of the research was music questionnaire that tried to clarify those genres, that are not familiar to respondents. Results of the music questionnaire were used as the basis for selection of respondents according to the preferential groups and to compare these groups in relation to certain musical attitudes, home musical environment and above all value system. The overall results of the research point to a very slight tendency to group certain specifics of the respondents which prefer hip hop, metal and classical music. On the contrary, results show a demonstrable impact of home music environment in shaping musical preferences. The unexpected outcome of present study is finding that listeners using the music questionnaire rated more positive the same genre of music compared to rating genres only by their concepts about each genre. Children's Choirs of the Central Bohemian Region, Prague-East in Particula

The submitted diploma work deals with the history of children's choirs in Central Bohemia since 1989 until the present days. In some cases it takes us even further into history. In the theoretical part, it focuses on the history of children's choirs, their member composition, age distribution and the work of choirmasters. The exploratory part covers the whole area of the Central Bohemia region according to its districts. It gives information about children's choirs, their numbers at different schools, their grouping set on the basis of the types of schools where they function. There is a questionnaire attached to the diploma work in which the choirmasters give information concerning history and current situation in their choirs. The submitted questions are then analysed. The research data are subsequently presented both in the written and graphic forms and their interpretation is included into the theoretical part of the diploma work. The aim is to find the songs that match the child's age and at the same time developing its musical skills. We need to evaluate the difficulty of the song intonation, rhythmic peculiarities of the songs and key, in which it sings the song. Finally, we consider the optimal and versatile selection from both the folk and the artificial music.
Playing as a tool to motivate pupils in musical and educational classwork in elementary school. Games with music theory in classes with extended teaching of music lessons

The thesis deals with the use of musical educational games in teaching music theory. The theoretical part explains some general concepts such as game, activation, or the child's personality. Text is based on the history of education, highlighting the views of famous philosophers, doctors, teachers, psychologists and other thinkers, who focused on child's play and the personality of the child. This part of the thesis also presents ways how to work with music playing in the singing, listening, instrumental and musical movement activities, according to some contemporary music teachers. The research focuses on experimental teaching with application of games with music theory, which were specially developed by the author. The research subject is the student and his involvement in activities that help with music theory teaching. The study identified some sub-goals: Discover the impact of educational games for pupil's activation and their participation in experimental teaching music education. Discover pupil's experiences from the game and checking the effectivity of the learning. Determine to what extent the didactic game affect the student's interests to learn music theory to alleviate the fear of poorly understood subject matter. The research verifies the set hypothesis.
