Očovská, Zuzana ; Vlček, Jiří (advisor) ; Trejtnar, František (referee) ; Urbánek, Karel (referee)
Charles University, Faculty of Pharmacy in Hradec Králové Training Workplace Department of Social and Clinical Pharmacy Doctoral Degree Program Clinical and Social Pharmacy Candidate PharmDr. Zuzana Očovská Supervisor prof. RNDr. Jiří Vlček, CSc. Title of Doctoral Thesis Drug-related problems as a potential cause of hospitalizations Introduction and objectives: A drug-related problem is an event or circumstance involving drug therapy that actually or potentially interferes with desired health outcomes. Manifested drug-related problems may contribute to hospital admissions of patients. Such hospital admissions, known as drug-related hospital admissions (DRA), represent a significant and potentially preventable burden on health systems. DRA often arise from the combination of multiple medications, making it important to pay increased attention to drug interactions, particularly in older patients who are taking a larger number of medications. DRA can result from inappropriate medication dosing or the selection of medications in the presence of chronic kidney disease. The main objectives of this thesis are: 1) to determine the prevalence and preventability of DRA and to identify medications and clinical manifestations associated with DRA in patients admitted to hospital via the department of emergency...
Analysis of drug problems at hospital department from the pharmacist's point of view
Dvořáčková, Eliška ; Vlček, Jiří (advisor) ; Trejtnar, František (referee) ; Urbánek, Karel (referee)
práce v anglickém jazyce Title: Analysis of drug problems at hospital department from the pharmacist's point of view Introduction: Chronic kidney disease is a medical and economic problem. It affects 10-13 % of the population in European countries and incidence is increasing with every decade of life. The most common cause of kidney failure in patients over 50 years of age is associated with 2. type diabetes and hypertension. Chronic kidney disease is associated with risk of mortality, hospitalization and decreased quality of life. Clinical pharmacist as a specialist in a field of pharmacotherapy collaborates with other health professionals to optimize pharmacotherapy. Proactive approach with active prevention of drug related problems (DRPs) is preferre. Identification and minimization of drug problems together with optimization of pharmacotherapy are the main objectives of clinical pharmacy. Where the prerequisite for the detection and resolution of drug problems is not only knowledge of pharmacology but also other medical disciplines such as biochemistry, microbiology, pathophysiology and epidemiology. This work is one of the first publications of this type in the Czech Republic, which reveals a review of pharmacotherapy in patients with chronic kidney disease and the integration of a pharmacist...

Charles University in Prague, Faculty of Pharmacy in Hradec Králové Department of Social and Clinical Pharmacy Candidate PharmDr. Abobakr Abasaeed Elhag Supervisor prof. RNDr. Jiří Vlček, CSc. Title of Doctoral Thesis Analysis of the Use of Antibiotics in the United Arab Emirates Introduction and Aims: The misuse of antibiotics for viral infections (for which they are of no value) and the immoderate use of broad spectrum antibiotics instead of narrower spectrum antibiotics have been well-documented and reported. Therefore the inappropriate use of antibiotics is getting a global problem, mainly in the developing countries. Emergence of antibiotics resistance is often a result of irrational prescribing patterns, misuse of the antibiotics as well as self-medication. Although the United Arab Emirates (UAE]) antimicrobial policy restricts dispensing of antibiotics without prescription , studies revealed the wide availability of these agents over the counter (OTC), their over prescribing pattern and the high prevalence of self-medication with antibiotics, unfortunately and regardless of this results, there is a lack and paucity in studies that tracking the prevalence of antibiotics resistance. The aim of our research was to evaluate the attitude of the community towards the use of antibiotics, estimate...
Retrospective Analysis utlilization of Lipid Modifying Agents
Bartas, Robert ; Kolář, Jozef (advisor) ; Solich, Jan (referee) ; Urbánek, Karel (referee)
Charles University in Prague, Faculty of Pharmacy in Hradec Králové Department of Social and Clinical Pharmacy Candidate PharmDr. Robert Bartas, MBA Supervisor Doc. RNDr. Jozef Kolář, CSc. Title of Doctoral Thesis Retrospective analysis utilization of lipid modifying agents Lipid lowering agents have been repeatedly the objective of studies analysing their utilization and costs. The objective of this study was to evaluate the structure and development of consumption of hypolipidemic agents. Material and methods. Data concerning utilization of individual hypolipidemic drugs from 2002 to 2009 were obtained from the State Institute for Drug Control database and General Health Insurance Company - Karvina district database. Utilization of hypolipidemic drugs were stated in DDDs in correspondence with the ATC Classification, and the costs in CZK. Information on utilization is expressed in the number of DDD per 1,000 inhabitants per 1 day (DID). Results. The utilization of fibrates slightly decreased, while statins an increase from 13.55 DID (2002) to 60.10 DID (2009) was observed. The total utilization of hypolipidemic drugs in DID has been continuously increasing (32.34 DID in 2002, 76.30 DID in 2009). Hypolipidemic drugs take the 5th place in the Czech Republic from the standpoint of expenses....
