Possibilities of Occupational Therapy Intervention for Cancer Patients

The aim of this thesis is to approach the issue of cancer patients and to present occupational therapy intervention in oncology. The theoretical part of the thesis is an overview of the most important concepts from the field of oncology. It outlines different types of treatments in oncology, including their side effects. There are also the most frequent cancer diagnoses in the Czech Republic and abroad. Furthermore, the work describes the general possibilities of rehabilitation for people with cancer. Next part is focused directly at the occupational therapy intervention in oncology. The practical part offers informational material about the possibilities of occupational therapy in oncology. It is primarily intended for laymen, but as a primary source of information on occupational therapy may well serve professionals working in oncology. Title: Adaptation of Performance of Activities of Daily Living in Patients with Hemiparesis Subtitle: Training of Dressing up for Patients with Hemiparesis by the use of a Video Manual Abstract: This bachelor's thesis deals with the possibilities of adapting the implementation of personal activities of daily living (pADL) in patients with hemiparesis. In particular, it focuses on the possibilities of training and adaptation during dressing up of the upper and lower part of the patient's body. The theoretical part summarizes the basic knowledge of the central nervous system, motor control and neurological diseases, which result in the partial paralysis of one-half of the body. Furthermore, the concept of pADL and their connection to the field of occupational therapy is explained. The following chapters are dedicated to the theoretical description of the possibilities of adaptation, training of activities of daily living and evaluation in the field of occupational therapy. Last, but not least, there is an overview of existing manuals that are currently available. Title: Cooperation between Ocupational Therapist and Physiotherapist in the Training of Personal Activities of Daily Living with Patients with Cervical Spine Lesion Abstract: This thesis explores some aspects of collaboration between occupational therapist (OT) and physiotherapist (PT) in rehabilitation of patients with complete spine lesion in level C6-C8. This group of patients has the functional potential to cope with activities of daily living with the use of compensation aids and strategies in an adapted enviroment. To fulfil this potential intense intervention of OT and PT is needed. The goal of this thesis was to map this cooperation in training of self-sufficiency in daily tasks during subacute and chronic phase of rehabilitation. As a representative sample 3 institutions were chosen, where patiens are treated during the spinal program. These institutions are: Spinal Unit in Faculty Hospital Motol, Rehabilitation Centre Kladruby and NGO Centrum Paraple. Self-sufficiency of patients in personal activities of daily living after surgical treatment of a fracture in the proximal end of the femur

Introduction: Fractures of the proximal end of the femur are one of the most frequent diagnoses. Patients with this diagnosis have to deal with performing daily activities. Both for painas well for the necessity of adherence to antiluxal measures. Thanks to this decrease thein independence from the other person. As one of the maingoals in this diploma thesis we determined means how occupational therapy canincrease self - sufficiency in this target group. As other goals, we found in formativ about the selection and financing of compensatory aids and we made a manual about this information. We focused on the factors that affect the return of patients to the home environment. Methodology: In the personal parts we chose 6 case studies (3 men and 3 women), in the averageage 73.5 years (median 72, 5), youngest 64 years, oldest 85 years. Patients underwent 5 therapies dedicated to the training of self - sufficiency of personal everyday activities (pADL). We measured the effectiveness of th erapeutic units using the Barthel Index. Use of individual types of positioning on patients after stroke in the acute and subacute phase of rehabilitation from the perspective of occupational therapy

OF MASTER THESIS Tittle of master thesis: Use of individual types of positioning on patients after stroke in the acute and subacute phase of rehabilitation from the perspective of occupational therapy. Stroke is one of the diseases that most affects the human population. It can result in temporary disability, permanent consequences and death. The patient's positioning after a stroke can affect many risks of secondary changes. The aim of this work is to find out how occupational therapists are involved in the positioning of patients in the acute and subacute phase after a stroke in stroke centers in the Czech Republic and how the positioning in stroke centers takes place. The literature and recommended procedures show that the correct positioning after a stroke in the acute and subacute phase prevents the development of immobilization syndrome and secondary changes. Positioning patients after a stroke can affect muscle tone, shoulder pain, prevent subluxation in the joints, maintain passive and active range in the joints, etc. In patients after a stroke, agitation should occur from the affected side to support the return of sensorimotor functions and to involve the affected parties to activities. Hand Tutor therapy and its effect on band function in patients with multiple sclerosis

Introduction: Multiple sclerosis is a chronic autoimmune neurodegenerative affection of the central nervous system with various neurological symptoms. Disability of upper extremities with other symptoms leads to impaired ability to work and ADL-activities of daily living. The purpose of the pilot study was to evaluate the effect of hand training with the Hand Tutor® rehabilitation system. Methods: The study involved 9 probands, completed 6 probands (2 females and 4 males) at an average age of 36 (SD 4), with a mean disease duration of 13 years (SD 4). Patients received a series of 10 Hand Tutor® therapies, 1-2 times a week. The effect of the therapy was evaluated using the Nine Hole Peg Test (9HPT), the Modified Frenchay Scale and the subjective evaluation of the probands. Results: Before the therapies, the average performance in the 9HPT test was 85 seconds and 83 points in the Modified Frenchay scale. After the therapies, the average 9HPT performance was 67 seconds and 86 points in the Modified Frenchay scale. According to the subjective evaluation of probands, the therapy had a positive effect on the tremor of the upper limb and on the use of the upper limb in the ADL. Mapping Work of Occupational Therapists in Prevocational Assessment Centers in the Czech Republic

Prevocational assessment is a complex functional assessment of psychosensomotor potential of a person with disability. Prevocational assessment can be part of a vocational rehabilitation provided by the Czech Labour Office as a form of consulting services. Nowadays, thirteen prevocational assessment centres in different regions of the Czech Republic offer this service. Prevocational assessments are made by an interprofessional team. Occupational therapist, as an essential member of this team, examines and tests client's independency during the prevocational assessment. Occupational therapist along with other members of interprofessional team analyses the work potential of a person with disability. Then, based on a complex functional assessment of a person with disability, the final report is written. This report contains description of skills and abilities which can be used by a person with disability while finding, getting and holding a position on the labour market. This report also contains a recommendation for the Czech Labour Office on how to increase client's chances to get a job. The use of surface electromyography for functional diagnostic of upper limb in spinal cord injury patients an occupational therapy perspective

The aim of this thesis is to determine the use of surface electromyography for functional diagnostic of upper limb in spinal cord injury patients from an occupational therapy perspective. Functional diagnostic is focused on personal activities of daily living (pADL). So far, no one has commented this topic from an occupational therapy perspective in the Czech Republic. The thesis should offer another possibility of objective evaluation. The theoretical part deals with the description of upper limb, including kinesiology, the types of grasps of quadriplegic patients and the muscles involved in performing personal activities of daily living. There are problem areas of activities of daily living in spinal cord injury patients and their classification. At the end of the theoretical part is described electromyography, interconnection with occupational therapy and use of surface electromyography. There is also described interdisciplinary team. The practical part consists of six case reports, in which subjects were measured muscle activity during performing personal activities of daily living using surface electromyography. Use of Model Administrative Activities in Prevocational Assessment

This bachelor thesis deals with model activities, which are focused on administrative activities due to possible employment of people with disability. Occupational therapists perform model activities within prevocational assessment or occupational therapy to determine whether a test person has the abilities, knowledge and skills needed to perform a given type of job. The aim of this bachelor thesis is to compile a set of administrative model activities usable in occupational therapy for people with disability in productive age. It also describes the work of an administrative worker, including his working environment. A separate chapter summarizes the basic facts about prevocational assessment. Model activities that are an integral part of prevocational assessment are presented in more detail. The practical part describes how six administrative model activities were created, which were pilot tested on healthy individuals. The created model activities were subsequently applied to persons with disability within occupational therapy and also during prevocational assessment examination to verify their applicability in practice. Occupational therapy evaluation of home environment of people with acquired brain injury. Case study focoused on facilitators and barriers according to the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health

Home environment should be accesible, barrier free and safe for people with disabilities. There is one possibility how to achieve these conditions the possibility is to let an occupational therapist to assess your home environment. The main parts of occupational therapy are: evaluation of home environment, suggesting of reconstrucitons needed and recommendations about helping aids. Environment is according to the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health one of the factors which are very important. The main goal of this diploma thesis was to design new evaluation of home environment of people with acquired brain injury made according to the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health. Partial goals were: to identify barriers of home environment, to determine facilitators which are already existing and to suggest helping aids and reconstructions if it is necessary.
