"Twelve and Holding" - content analysis of student essays

The topic of the diploma thesis is the professional vision of the students of teaching and their view on problems of adolescent children. Based on a literature review, we first define the concepts of pubescent and factors affecting adolescence and professional vision in the theoretical part. That research part deals with content analysis of essays about Michael Cuesta's Twelve and Holding (2005), which was developed by the students of the 1st year of combined study, the branch of teaching for primary school (hereinafter referred to as "students") as part of the teaching of the subject Introduction to Pedagogy at the Department of Primary Education at the Faculty of Education of Charles University. The goal of this research is to describe how students, at the beginning of their studies, are able to perceive the problems of the children presented in the film. This Diploma Thesis is focused on the history of the elementary education system in the area of Hradec Králové. Special attention is paid to a primary school in Chlumec nad Cidlinou. The History of a particular school in Chlumec nad Cidlinou is the material source used to formulate the project for the primary school pupils in this school. The main approach of the project will be to familiarize pupils with the history of their school and to strengthen the pupils' relationship to the school.
Czechoslovak school and its teacher in the period 1948-1989

This thesis is of a historical character. It is methodologically based on historical comparative analysis, analysis of sources and methods of oral history. The diploma thesis deals with the study of ordinary life of primary schools teachers in Czechoslovakia between 1948-1989. It uses studies and analysis of texts based on legislative sources, characteristics of school teacher's everyday life in professional and teacher magazines and other professional literature. Memories of witnesses who immediately experienced the period between 1948-1989 and worked in primary schools at that time are used. These memories will be confronted with the facts obtained by studying printed sources. The thesis consists of two parts - theoretical and practical. In the theoretical part, the thesis deals with the historical context of the time, describes the school itself and the teachers at school during socialism. The way it used to be at schools and what the teacher's job was. The theoretical part describes for example school laws, communist education, school regulations, curricula. In the practical part, the oral method is used to talk with teachers - witnesses. It discovers opinions, attitudes and experience of teachers. History of learning module homeland study in context of period curriculum wit emphasis on era 1918 - 1938

The aim of the thesis is to look into historical evolution of teachings subject - Homeland study at first stage of primary school. Special emphasis is put on the "first republic Czechoslovakia" period between years 1918 and 1938 when main topics of education were solved on pages of magazine "Školské reformy". In each era has homeland study different target and different content of education. Therfore national curriculum differs in quota of hours. It wasn't always convention that elementary teaching had preceded or had been followed up by homeland study. In some historical periods elementary teaching was even merged with other teaching subjects. It is very interesting to compare different eras of elementary teaching to understand the meaning of this theme.
Approaches to Early English Language Learning in Pre-school Facilities

The thesis deals with a topical and at the same time controversial isssue in the pre- shool education - the very early foreign language learning. The aim of the thesis is to outline the conditions of English language learning in pre-school facilities in the Czech Republic (more precisely in Prague) and analyse and compare selected methods used for teaching English. The thesis consists of the theoretical and the practical part. The theoretical part focuses on early language learning in the Czech and European context, on curriculum conditions and teachers' qualification in the Czech Republic and on the individual particularities of a pre-school child in relation to the early language acquisition. The summary will offer various opinions and results of researches in the field of early foreing language learning in the pre-school age. The aim of the practical part is to compare two methods for teaching English and survey the present conditions of English learning in selected pre-school facilities in Prague.
