Reflection of the referendum and change of the constitution in Belarus 2004 in the Czech press

The bachelor thesis deals with the referendum and constitutional change in Belarus in 2004 and the response of these events in the Czech press. The first part is theoretical, trying to define the form of the current political regime of Lukashenka's Belarus. The second part chronologically charts the political development in the country. This chapter covers the period shortly before the collapse of the Soviet Union, the events of the nineties and the turn of the century followed by the discussed referendum and constitutional change. The third part provides an analysis of the Czech press - selected newspapers, socio-political magazines and professional journals - with an emphasis on their response to the referendum and related events.
The concept of revolution in the work of N.A. Berdyaev

This thesis is focused on a concept of revolution in writings of Russian philosopher Nikolai Berdyaev. It starts with general characteristics of a philosopher's works and special attention is given to the style of his writing. Main objective of the thesis is a description of Berdyaev's relation to the term revolution itself, which is given from philosophical, sociological and his- toriosophical perspective, as well as putting his notion of revolution into the context of histor- ical events that has occurred during the first quarter of 20th century in Russia. Thesis draws on Berdyaev's articles that appeared in these collections of papers: The Problems of Idealism (Problemy idealizma), Signposts (Vekhi), De profundis (Iz glubiny) and on his works: The Spir- itual Crisis of the Intelligentsia, The Philosophy of Inequality, The Spiritual Origins of Russian Revolution.

Anna Novotná Epoch of so-called Smuta in 1605-1613 in the mirror of Russian historiography (from Karamzin to Klyuchevsky) Abstract: The bachelor thesis deals with reflection of Times of Troubles events in Russia at the turn of the 16th and 17th centuries in modern Russian historiography of the 19th and beginning of the 20th centuries. The attention is paid to view development of selected historians (N. M. Karamzin; N. G. Ustryalov; S. M. Solovyov; N. I. Kostomarov; D. I. Ilovaysky; V. O. Klyuchevsky) on three phenomenons: the role of the monarch, the role of the church and relation to aliens. The historians can be classified in three groups. The generation of historians (Karamzin, Ilovaysky and Ustryalov) represents the transition from Enlightenment historiography to historiography of the period of National Revival (Kostomarov). Historian Solovyov represents turning point to scientific historiography. Culmination of modern attitude to material of the discussed period is the work of Klyuchevsky. Following changes of attitude of individual authors to these phenomenons reflects changes of Russian thinking in the course of the 19th century. This thesis deals with the Ukrainian Republican Capella, its origins, concerts in Czechoslovakia in 1919 and the subsequent response in selected Czech press. The whole work is framed within a historical context, and context of Czech-Ukrainian relations.
Russia and Tatars: mutual relations during the era of early Russian-Mongolian contacts

The opening part of the work is focused on the reasons of mongolian military success in the 13th century, Genghis Khan's personality, the form of the mongolian conquest and the main events that caused nomadic expansion. The authors' attention is aimed at the two main mongolian attacks on Russia - the one led by Subetei in 1223 and the next one following 14 years later, led by Batu-khan. The author gives a detailed description of those affairs, including the scouting nature of the first of them and the conquering nature of the second one. The next part of the work deals with the situation after Genghis Khan's death, organization of his empire and the history of the Eastern Europe before the mongolian invasion. The impact of nomadic agression on the cultural and political life of the russian principalities is also mentioned.

This bachelor thesis concerns the Cossack Ukraine in the period of the first phases of the Ruin, after the death of hetman Bohdan Khmelnytsky. The main task is to analyze causes of the desintegration of the cossack hetmanate and to cover the essential charakteristics of this period. The study follows an axis of the developement of factions in the Cossack leadership according to the particular foreign political variants of the Cossack statehood, as well as the geopolitical context of the period and the interests of the Eastern European powers in the Ukraine. The paper also deals with the specifics of the political and social system of the Cossack state in the second half of the17th century.
The Reception of Narcotics by British Scientists and Society in the First Half of the 19th Century

The bachelor thesis analyzes how the British society and scientists perceived the narcotics in the Great Britain during the first half of the 19th century. Numerous sources (including the period medical books, popular magazines, fiction, and letters) were used for this work. The aim was to compare how the people of different professions, ages, education, or rank perceived the narcotics and what had influenced their opinions. There are also several chapters about the physicians and their reception of narcotics, travelers and itineraries, the Opium Wars, animals, and one detailed study about Sir Walter Scott's family.
Czechoslovak-Arab relations between the two wars. Political and economic relations of interwar Czechoslovakia to Arab countries in the Near East

The thesis examines the political and economic relations between inter-war Czechoslovakia and Egypt, Palestine, Iraq, Syria and Lebanon. It describes in detail the development of the organizational structure of the Czechoslovak diplomatic and consular representation in the above countries. It follows the history of mutual political relations and seeks to answer the question how Czechoslovakia formulated its positions on individual issues and which government departments played the crucial role in formulating Czechoslovak positions. The core of the thesis is a detailed analysis of mutual trade contacts. The author identifies the main factors that determined the nature of Czechoslovak trade with Arab countries. Special attention is paid namely to the support and incentives offered by the government and government-funded institutions with the aim to encourage Czechoslovak exports to Arab countries. The last part of the thesis explains in detail how soon and in what manner each mission joined the Czechoslovak resistance movement after the Nazi occupation of Czechoslovakia in March 1939. It focuses on the diplomatic representation in the above countries, the establishment of these relations, the development of political and economic relations and the entrance of Czechoslovak diplomatic missions and consular posts into anti-fascist resistance movement in 1939.
The Russia policy of Germany 1917-1918

German foreign policy and military activity on the Eastern Front between 1917 and 1918 was primarily determined by effort to make peace and to stabilize the situation there, which would allow the transfer of command of the German troops to the western line. There was necessary to determine the current impasse before landing of the first sections of the United States in the spring of 1918. Their presence would reverse the current ratio of balanced forces of both warring parties against the Germany. This policy has been influenced by several interconnected factors. Besides the already mentioned time limit on troop movements between fronts there was a important relationship with the new Government of St. Petersburg from November 1917. Despite the Germans initially envisaged cooperation in the negotiations on the basis of support for the Bolsheviks on their way to power, but then there was a fundamental contradiction and friction surfaces, which were partly caused by the differing views on the spread of revolution among the Bolsheviks themselves. Ambivalent relationship between Germany and Russia had not stopped the signing of Brest-Lithuanian Peace 3rd March 1918, but continued after, until the surrender of Berlin in the autumn of 1918.
