CHEMISTRY ORIENTED FIELD TRIP IN SECONDARY EDUCATION

This thesis summarized available information about field trips and their integration into undergraduate chemistry curriculum. It also contains a list of places in Prague suitable for filed trip in chemistry education. Suggested field trips include a description of each visited place, photographs, and contact informations.. The apendix contains samples and links of worksheets, video recordings and other teaching laids. The thesis can be used as a teacher aid for preparing school field trips.

Chemical thermodynamics in chemisty education at grammar schools

This bachelor thesis is focused on teaching chemical thermodynamics at the four-year grammar school. The theoretical part of the thesis deals with the analysis of current curricula. Basic document is the Framework educational programme for grammar schools. Subsequently, in a few cases of the School educational programs my work present the scope of this topic at different grammar schools and inclusion in a school year. My thesis also includes reviews of the most widely used grammar school textbooks. Practical part of my thesis deals with creating my own textbooks of chemical thermodynamics for grammar schools. These textbooks should to be actually used in chemical thermodynamics education at grammar school in compulsory and optional chemistry subjects. These textbooks include a brief explanation of subject matter and teaching tasks encouraging pupils to be more active in class. They comprise all the essentials of secondary school textbooks and present all the grammar school matter of chemical thermodynamics and thermochemistry in detail. Both textbooks contain solutions of teaching tasks for teachers.

Video-database of Chemical Experiments - formation and evaluation

For many reasons, Chemistry is not among the most popular subjects at Secondary schools. Many students find this subject challenging and difficult to understand. Experiments in Chemistry mainly drive the students' motivation for the subject. Unfortunately, they are often missing during Chemistry lessons, due to high demands on preparation time as well as safety hazards or a lack of chemicals required. Although a real experiment is difficult to replace, a video experiment might be a useful and sufficient alternative when lacking preparation time or the required chemicals, or in case of experiments with safety risks. This thesis therefore focuses on building a video experiment database by extending and improving the basic Chemistry Experiment Database located on the website www.studiumchemie.cz. This is a website administrated by the Faculty of Science of Charles University in Prague, serving as support for Secondary school Chemistry teachers. The database itself was created as a part of my bachelor thesis. The database was now extended and many improvements were made, following the results of a survey among Chemistry teachers, who asked for more experiments in Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry. 96 new experiments were added, with regard to the teachers' suggestions. Employment of mobile devices in chemistry education

This diploma thesis is focused on the use of mobile devices in chemistry education. Describes various mobile devices, including different operating systems and technology and shows huge potential that these devices bring to education. It also includes an overview of existing educational programs with a chemical theme on mobile devices. Part of this work was to create a custom supportive program Chemical helper for mobile devices, which can be used in chemistry education, laboratory and also in everyday life.

Interactive Whiteboard in Inorganic Chemistry Teaching - Group 14 of the Periodic Table of Elements Secondary Education

1 Abstract The subject of this thesis was creating of teaching material for an interactive whiteboard using the SMART Notebook program. The material was created in form of interactive presentations designed to be used in chemistry lessons at secondary schools. The unifying theme of presentations was the 14th group of the periodic table of elements. The thesis also includes a description of the way the presentations were made and instructions for teachers how to work with them. Selection and development of new educational materials for high school support webpage www.studiumchemie.cz

This diploma thesis is focused on development and production of functional parts and new materials for the purpose of supporting educational website www.studiumchemie.cz on evaluation of its operation. The changes were made in graphical, structural and functional parts of website, which were designed based on the analysis of behavior of visitors to the website and by direct reaction of visitors. Changes were related to structure of database of chemical experiments or creating new features for registered users, such as evaluation of materials or personification of user profile. In cooperation with specialists have been incorporated several new materials, focusing on the issues of nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR). In addition to that, two new games have been prepared - Chemical pentathlon and Identify molecules. New materials should be used to expand the portfolio of educational materials on the website. Furthermore, the administration interface has been created and designed to meet the needs of editorial contributors site without prior programming experience. Evaluation of the statistics associated with the operation of the site showed that web traffic continues to grow. Comparative Analysis of Chemistry Education ( Czech Republic - Scotland)

Education systems of foreign countries are often what inspire us to make these changes. The aim of this thesis is to describe the education system in Scotland and the way chemistry is being taught at secondary schools in this country. Further it tries to compare these to the education system and chemistry teaching in the Czech Republic and consider whether we can adopt any aspects of Scottish education. Apart from analysis of study plans and educational documents, research for this thesis included visits to chemistry lessons at three secondary schools in Scotland and interviews with teachers at these schools. In the text, cultural and historical context of Scotland related to the education system is mentioned briefly. Then the Scottish education system is explained and Chemistry teaching at secondary schools is described from the point of study plans and requirements. Inter-subject relations between chemistry and geology in natural sciences

Thesis is fixed on inter-subjects relations between chemistry and geology in context of science education. Thesis concern subject matter defined in curricula for grammar schools, which is devoted inorganic chemistry, mineralogy and petrology. Next there is lucid compile inclusion these themes to school curricula in other grammar schools. Thesis emphasizes mainly to practical works in teaching mentioned subjects i.e. experiments. There are compile topics for chemical and physical experiments, which are useful for demonstration inter- subject relations between these subjects and geology. Worksheets with creative solutions were made for these experiments; there are component of enclosure of this thesis.

Hypermedia educational program Halogen chemistry and its use in chemistry education of gifted pupils

In my dissertation, I dealt with the problem of education of gifted pupils in chemistry. I particularly focused at a detailed search in this scientific field, problems identification and suggesting as well as realisation of possible solutions. All the particular aims specif ied in the introduction were gradually accomplished. A survey among high school chemistry teachers (in the form of questionnaires) showed that there neither is a sufficient attention paid to the gifted pupils education in the Czech Republic, nor the prospective teachers are systematically prepared for this role. There are also consequent problems with gifted pupils curriculum differentiation, which most teachers consider to be more suitable for the gifted pupils education than a (lepší asi their?) segregation and separate education. Teachers lack a sufficient amount of enough information about curriculum differentiation (individual approach) and educational software, suitable and avaiable for the education of gifted pupils. On the basis of this survey, reserch results and my own experience in this field, I designed and created a hypermedia teaching aid as a XHTML program.
