Specifics of Czech Family Firms, their Influence on Business Performance and Value Creation

Many family business owners in the Czech Republic currently deal with the first generational exchange. Thus, they are faced with what might be the value of their company. The research is focused on Czech family businesses and their specifics. The objective of the thesis is to describe Czech family business specifics and to determine their relevance to family business performance and value creation. In the theoretical part of the thesis the definition of family business is presented, and the specificity of family businesses is described. The specifics are categorised into three sections: control of the family business; long-term sustainability of family business; social responsibility of family business owners and family relationships. Sustainability is a long-term priority in family-run business. Also, the family control of the business, both ownership and managerial, is important to keep long-term sustainable business in the family. Furthermore, establishing and maintaining good relations with family members, employees and the company's environment (e.g. supporting socially beneficial activities) is core for a successful company. Based on the literature review, a three-factor model of family business specifics was designed. The model was further verified on the data obtained from the questionnaire survey. In the next section, the theoretical part focuses on approaches used to measure the performance and value of the family business. It summarises performance indicators and presents a method for business value estimation, considering family business specifics. The analytical section of the thesis presents the Czech family business (MSMEs) specifics. Compared to foreign research findings: the analysed businesses have a shorter history; mostly do not plan in long-term; owners are often more willing to accept non-family investors; and family members are not commonly preferred when hiring employees. Although owners do not draw up strategic plans, they have long term goals and want to pass the business on to their children. Next, the study examined the relation of these specifics and the performance, and value creation ability of the family business. The proposed factor of familiness representing social responsibility and family relationships was found to affect business performance and the ability to create value for their owners.

Bankruptcy Prediction Modelling in Construction Business

The diploma thesis is aimed at creating a bankruptcy model for companies of the construction industry in the Czech Republic by using discriminant analysis. In the theoretical part, the concept of bankruptcy model is defined; this part is focused on the inclusion of bankruptcy models in economics, a look into their history, a description of selected models and a brief characteristic of the construction industry. In the practical part, the reliability of selected bankruptcy models is counted and a new bankruptcy model is built.

Investment Project Evaluation

This bachelor thesis deals with the topic of investment decision making. In the theoretical section are themes discussed and connected with the following practical part. The financing options for the investment project, the very types of analysis for the investment appreciation, are thoroughly described in detail. The conclusion of the research are methods for analyses of the business itself. The practical part first analyses the state of the company before applying the investment, the second part compares the convenience of the investment.

The practical part describes funding of non-governmental organization named Hnutí Brontosaurus and suggestion to fiancial plan of its basic part named Chudák Svišť.

The bachelor's thesis is focused on the evaluation of the economic situation of the company. The company is then focused on the years 2017 to 2021. The company's performance is compared both with selected competitors and with industry values. As part of the theoretical part, methods are presented, which are subsequently used in the analytical part to evaluate the economic situation of the company. In the proposal part, proposals are presented leading to the improvement of the economic situation of the company.

The last part contains a proposal for a new internal company directive, which is focused on employees and specifically on the work rules.

The thesis is divided into three basic parts, namely the theoretical, analytical and design part. The theoretical part deals with the explanation of concepts. The analytical part introduces the company and applies the calculations and procedures defined in the theoretical part of the thesis. The design part of the thesis presents its own proposals for improving the financial situation of the company.

The first part focuses on the theoretical background and explanation of concepts that are closely related to financial analysis. In the next part, the basic information is presented to the company under study and its competitors in the industry. Furthermore, the financial situation of the company is analyzed by applying selected methods. The last section is devoted to suggestions for improving the financial situation of the company, which are proposed in accordance with the identified weaknesses.

The bachelor’s thesis deals with creation of internal directive for inventory management in a selected entity. The first part of the thesis is devoted to providing a theoretical basis for internal directives, inventory management, record - keeping, valuation, accounting methods and inventory auditing. The following part comprises basic information about the company, a financial analysis of its statements and an analysis of the current status of its inventory management directives. In the last part, a proposal for an internal directive focused on inventory management is presented based on the acquired knowledge and results of the analysis.
