Adolescents'attitudes to the phenomenon of sharenting
Urban, Tereza ; Vochocová, Lenka (advisor) ; Soukup, Martin (referee)
This diploma thesis focuses on the widespread phenomenon of sharenting, an activity in which parents share photos, videos, or detailed descriptions of their children on social media. The diploma thesis aims to find out how Czech adolescents, who have direct experience with this phenomenon, feel about it. The qualitative research is based on findings obtained through in- depth interviews with eleven adolescents. The theoretical part is devoted to the definition of the main concepts - adolescence and sharenting and puts them in the context of Communication Privacy Management Theory and Impression Management Theory. The empirical part then presents the results and conclusions of the research. The results of the analysis show that adolescents' views on sharenting are largely influenced by their perceptions of the risks associated with this phenomenon. Those of them who had a somewhat negative experience with sharenting perceived this activity as riskier. At the same time, those who perceived social networks in general as a potential threat were more aware of their risks. On the other hand, if the rules for sharing are well set between parents and their children and parents respect the opinion of their children, sharenting can be perceived positively among the adolescents themselves, and they may even...
Climate change and information overload
Pittner, Jan ; Miessler, Jan (advisor) ; Soukup, Martin (referee)
This bachelor's thesis focuses on the topic of information overload and climate change. The theoretical framework presents information overload as a concept in general and then in the context of climate change. It specifies how information overload can arise in terms of consumption of different media types and mentions symptoms and potential impacts of the problem. It focuses on groups of recipients of climate change information. These groups are those who experience climate change directly and those who learn about it indirectly. It focuses on fake news about climate change and ways of their misuse. It also provides a discussion on potential solutions of the problem of information overload which appear in literature as guidelines and recommendations at individual, media organizations and workplace levels. The practical part of the thesis uses a questionnaire survey to obtain specific data and then quantitatively analyses it. The collected data is divided into categories which are compared with each other using graphs and charts. The findings are placed in the context of current knowledge summarized in the theoretical framework. The main finding of this survey is that there is a positive correlation between the respondents' level of information overload and ability to act. Other findings are that...

Kroneislová, Adéla ; Lütke Notarp, Ulrike (advisor) ; Soukup, Martin (referee)
The aim of this bachelor thesis The Construction of Man and Society in Textbooks for Primary Schools is to analyze and reconstruct the image of Czech national identity that is present in Czech textbooks for primary schools. The thesis is divided into three main parts: theory, methodology, and final research. The theoretical part includes the scientific framework of discursive analysis, the textbook text as a source of collective identity transmission, and the concepts of culture and understanding of the nation that are relevant for the reconstruction of the national identity which is transmitted to pupils during their studies. The method of linguistic discursive analysis is used to achieve the research goals. The chosen method enables the identification of the basic elements of the discourse. The research section details the research typologies and the findings that were made. Using the data obtained from the analysis of the textbooks, an image of Czech national identity is subsequently described and the main values on which Czech national identity is based are outlined. In the conclusion of the thesis, further possible approaches for extending the research are mentioned and the overall process of the thesis is summarized.
Children's perception of old age in the context of media representations
Nikodemová, Tereza ; Háša, Marek (advisor) ; Soukup, Martin (referee)
This bachelor thesis focuses on children's attitudes towards old age and seniors in the context of media representations. The part of the thesis that draws out the literature defines the issues of media representations, social and media construction of reality, discusses the influence of the media on children's audiences, defines old age and the position of seniors in society, and finally outlines the way seniors are presented not only in children's media. The research part of the thesis clarifies the issue of the perception of old age by children aged 9 to 11 in the context of media representations in relation to the studies already conducted. Within the framework of its own research, it explores, through individual in-depth interviews, the child participants' perceptions of the elderly, their lives and their position in society, and the role of the media in this process. The study found that children most often characterise the elderly through external features and think of them in very stereotypical ways. They see them as a homogeneous group of people with frequent health problems, who live alone, primarily meet the needs of others, obtain a lot of knowledge and are wise. Children show considerable fear of ageing aware "othering" in their views, emphasizing the ideal of youth and reflecting on...
The Western Ideal of Beauty Portayed in Fashion Magazines and Its Influence on Vietnamese Women's Perception of Beauty
Tranová, Thi Viet Chinh ; Soukup, Martin (advisor) ; Ivanišová, Markéta (referee)
This bachelor thesis examines the impact of Western beauty standards portrayed in fashion magazines on Vietnamese women. The theoretical part provides insight into the phenomenon of beauty itself, which the author then places in the context of the media and the media's portrayal of idealized images. The thesis thus offers the most frequently repeated negative impacts on individuals who have been exposed to idealized images of beauty. The aim of this thesis was to explore the impacts of Western ideals of beauty on Vietnamese women, who differ from these standards due to their genetic and physiological predispositions. In this study a qualitative research method was used, in which thirteen Vietnamese women ranging in age from eighteen to thirty-seven were interviewed. From the results of the analyzed data, it was found that the interviewed women put little emphasis on fashion magazines in shaping their perception of beauty and self-image. Thus, two levels of findings were uncovered in the research. The first part examined the specific situations where the portrayed ideal of beauty actually influenced the perception of beauty of the participating Vietnamese women. The second part further explored the reasons why these women placed such a low value on these magazines. In summary, the analysis uncovered...
Choughs and irises. Anthropology of tourism, space and identity in Morocco
Konopíková, Michaela ; Soukup, Martin (advisor) ; Bláha, Jan Daniel (referee) ; Sokolíčková, Zdenka (referee)
The dissertation project is based on a long-term fieldwork among the Berber community in the Moroccan High Atlas Mountains. It looks at the transformation of the local environment since new discursive practices are emerging as a result of an interference of the global economy, environmentalism and developmental policies. Following Appadurai, the thesis raises a question of locality in contemporary world and neighborhoods, which are imagined, produced, and maintained against some sort of ground while the context-generative dimension of neighborhoods provides a theoretical angle on the relationship of global and local realities with the idea of culturally hybridized world. Together with Appadurai, the thesis deals with "what locality might mean in a situation where the nation-state faces particular sorts of transnational destabilization." The thesis has thus two main aims. (1) After describing the structural conditions in which the tourism industry in the mountains operates, (2) it will discuss the limitations of the locals' responses to the global market, or more broadly the impacts of globalization. It is necessary to establish a framework, which would connect the large- scale and small-scale processes and identify the concept of their dialectical relationships. Through such a reading, the thesis...

Pauzová, Tereza ; Soukup, Martin (advisor) ; Křeček, Jan (referee)
This diploma thesis describes the interconnection of online and offline social spaces, supportive Instagram profiles, the impact of social networks on users and the feelings that appear in connection with the use of social networks among users. The theoretical part aims to describe the main concepts that are linked with social media, self- presentation and identity, it also shows the consequences of using social networks and describes supporting profiles. The practical part strives to answer the previous questions through a semi- structured interview, a questionnaire and an expert interview which is then analysed using a thematic analysis and a statistical analysis. The result of this thesis shows that people present themselves in the best way, supportive profiles are popular among respondents and they have a positive view of them and think that these profiles can help somebody. The most common...
Social networks as an inspiration source or reason of lower self - confidence - What impact can Instagram have on body image perception

The key part of the thesis is the research itself, based mainly on the foreign studies of Moira J. Calder (et al., 2011), Carole Zufferey (2008; 2010; 2014) and Mao (et al., 2012). In the text are summarized almost all studies related to the media and homelessness in the Czech Republic (Kadeřávek, 2016; Stuhlíková, 2011; Košťálová, 2013; Kronika, 2011; Balcar, 2014; Aujezdský, 2014; Malík, 2011 2018; Hejnal, 2012). The research method used is a quantitative content media analysis, the result is a description of the media image. Examined were the internet news articles of the three most popular public sphere media - ČT24.cz; iRozhlas.cz; České noviny.cz and three private sphere media - Novinky.cz; iDnes.cz; Aktuálně.cz. The diploma thesis firstly focuses on the first period, then the second period, in which it analyzes and compares the media image of homelessness between public and private media, and finally compares the media image of homelessness before the beginning of the crisis and during the crisis. This study provides a key element in studying and...

Through qualitative image analysis and semiotic analysis, this thesis aims to answer the main research question: how witches are portrayed in modern film/tv/series productions and how are these images received by us, as viewers. The thesis should form a comprehensive, concise, scholarly overview of the representation of witches (not only) in our local cinematography.
