Roman country villae in Epirus

The roman villa rustica is a fundamental arrangement for the provincial economy. Gradually this countryside villa - an agricultural satellite of the Roman cities - was introduced in Greece. As a result of the Roman migration to the East and later the foundation of the city Nikopolis and the establishment of the Pax Romana, these Roman villas appear in the countryside of Epirus between the 2nd c. BC and the 3rd c. AD. In this thesis, we seek to classify Roman traces through the prism of architectural remains and building technologies used for constructing villae rusticae, as a means of identification of Roman presence in the area of Epirus. Specific architectural characteristics are presented with the case studies of the villas at Masklinitsa and Strongyli.

Re-creation of a roman bath complex at Pollena Trocchia

Roman baths were discovered in Pollena Trocchia on the northern side of Vesuvius. They can be labelled as private for their size and location and they probably belonged to a rich villa. This and the fact that they were built shortly after the A.D. 79 eruption makes them a rather rare specimen for study of development of Roman baths in the area. The baths are exceptionally well preserved and rare details of construction and functionality can be found, from the design phase, which can be seen in form of 1:1 plan carved on bricks forming the hypocaust floor, to the water and heating technologies. These details are followed in this thesis and the original form and modus operandi of the baths is reconstructed. The Benefits of Green Spaces

This diploma thesis with the theme of The benefits of green spaces deals with the benefits of green space and their value.
The main part of the thesis is a literary review summarizing the theme of the benefits of green space and the methods of their evaluation. The first part of the review focuses mainly on the identification of the functions of green spaces in an urban environment and a closer look at their effects, utility and functioning. In this section the effects of the phenomena that occur in urban environments and which are suppressed thanks to green spaces are also analyzed. The second part of the review is devoted to the importance of evaluating green spaces and their benefits and further to methodologies, which are discussed in detail.
The following section analyzes the evaluation methodologies and their positive and critical points are identified. This section also divides the methodologies according to their relevance in the Czech environment, which is specific and the methodologies developed in the Anglo-Saxon context cannot be applied without modification. This chapter also compares data sources needed to develop a methodology for evaluating the benefits of green spaces.
In the fifth chapter of the thesis, a methodology for calculating the economic value of the benefits of green spaces in the city is created, based on the knowledge gained in the literature review. The methodology combines methods from various sources and adjusts them to the Czech context. It also examines the data sources needed in order to set up the whole balance sheet.
The sixth part deals with the discussion, in which is the summary of the data, which arise from the assembled methodology and compares them with the literature and the application of similar methodologies in other territories.
The conclusion summarizes the information obtained in the research and suggests other possibilities of their future use.

Methodology for the rescue and revitalization of introduced woody plants in monuments of garden art

The methodology was disigned with the aim to develop a complex tool for the identification of priority individuals of woody plants for their rescue and revitalization. Furthermore, a sequence of measures to that end is given. As a result, gardeners have a method how to identify priority plants and priority measures for the rescue of valuable individuals in monuments of garden art; thus, viewpoints of garden architects, dendrologists and arborists are integrated.

Methods to register living collections in monuments of garden art

This methodical tool is designed to register and catalogue woody plants in living collections that are integrated in monuments of garden art. The tool, with the aid of descriptive and evaluating criteria and within the framework of architectural composition and vegetation elements of the monument, aloows to develop a spatially explicit registry organized in a database in the GIS environment.
