Street Harassment of Non-Heterosexual Women

This constructivist diploma thesis focuses on the problem called street harassment, specifically in the context of non-heterosexual women, and its analysis through the intersection of gender and sexuality in the heteronormative society. The theoretic part explains the basic terminology such as heteronormativity, homonegativity and misogyny which is used for presenting the context in which street harassment takes place. The core part of the text is dedicated to the forms of such behaviour, its psychological and social impacts on non-heterosexual women and their lives, their reactions and coping strategies. The empirical part focuses on analogical subtopics but in the concrete context of street harassment of non-heterosexual female couples. Its goal is to describe and accentuate this area which has been marginalized in the Czech as well as foreign academic debate. For these purposes was chosen the qualitative empirical design, specifically eight semi- structured in-depth interviews. The results were analysed by the thematic analysis method because it enables to find the common themes as well as the valuable distinctions in the interviews. When reproductive rights are criminalized: cross-border abortions and a case study of the Ciocia Collectives

This research examines qualitative interviews with three informal feminist collectives: Ciocia Basia, Ciocia Wienia, and Ciocia Czesia. The Ciocia collectives are located in Central Europe, specifically Germany, Austria, and the Czech Republic, and work to organize abortions for people mainly living in Poland where abortion access is highly restricted. Every member of the collective is a volunteer and the group does not profit from their activism. While prior research has been conducted on individuals who are forced to travel to receive reproductive care, little current research exists on the abortion organizing groups who assist them in the process. The Ciocia collectives work tirelessly to organize cross-border abortions including arranging accommodation, appointments, funding, translation services, and more. (Re)production of the canon in the 20th century architectural historiography: critical analysis

The thesis (Re)Production of the Canon in the 20th Century Architectural Historiography: Critical Analysis deals with the topic of the architectural canon and especially on a critical reflection on the principles of its formation. The thesis presents the theoretical background and argumentation appearing in both foreign and czech texts (published from the second wave of feminism to the present) that view the architectural canon and the interpretation of architectural history critically - primarily through the cathegory of gender. The analytical part of the thesis focuses on a quantitative and qualitative content analysis of syllabi for survey courses on the history of architecture taught at Czech universities, with the aim of answering the research question: How is the history of 20th century architecture taught at universities in the Czech Republic - and to what extent is it a history that takes into account the creative contribution of women? Pregnant in Lima: female body, social stratification and urban space

How is the experience of pregnancy in a patriarchal society shaped by pregnant women's socioeconomic status? So far, qualitative studies have primarily focused on the effect of socioeconomic status in healthcare, and unintended conception in poor adolescents. Based on a 17-month comparative ethnography conducted in Lima, the hyper-stratified capital of Peru, this dissertation addresses experiences of women of different socioeconomic dispositions including conception, abortion, and (inter)personal lived pregnancy experience. The dissertation employs the concept of reproductive habitus to reflect on the differing classed and gendered dispositions in women of different socioeconomic statuses as an embodiment of institutions: the institution of patriarchy and healthcare institutions. The dissertation identifies status-related reproductive dispositions/differences in forming pregnancy experience in four areas: (i) in women's conception circumstances primarily in terms of pregnancy (non)intentionality, women's childbearing age span, relationship status (integrity), and male partner (non)abandonment (desertion). Childbirth from Men's Perspectives

The diploma thesis deals with men's presence at childbirth. The aim of this work is to give a voice to men - fathers to tell the birth stories from their perspective. The theoretical part of the thesis provides a theoretical framework for the analysis of the construction of identities, the repertoires of fatherhood and gender relations in the family and presents a feminist critique of the childbirth discourses. The empirical part discusses methodology and methods of the research and includes the analysis of narrative interviews with fifteen fathers who were present at birth. The research of this diploma thesis answers following questions: how men talk about the experience of childbirth, how they construct their masculine identity and how they relate to fatherhood (parenthood) during narration. The aim of the research is also to identify their reasons for being present at childbirth, the roles they play at childbirth, and the importance they assign to this event. "The Ambitious Women Illness" Gender Dimensions of Diagnostic Process of Multiple Sclerosis

Diploma thesis analyses gendered dimensions pervading diagnostic process of multiple sclerosis based on semi structured interviews with women targeting their own lived experience and perspective. Theoretical part of this work introduces basic concepts and groundwork arising from previous research including the main and following topics. Starting with medical discourse and continuing with gender bias in medicine, which is amongst others represented by medicalisation of the female body. I also touched upon the topic of delayed diagnosis and introduced basic information about multiple sclerosis. Empirical part describes the goal of this work through qualitative research which was chosen with the vision of analysing specific female experience. Through interviews I had the opportunity to hear a real world stories about lives of women living with multiple sclerosis. Those stories lead me to possibly new findings about the diagnostic process. With this work I would like to bring some improvements to the complex diagnostic process. Questioning youth: Strategies and support of youth development in the context of the Czech educational system

Master thesis Questioning youth: Strategies and support of youth development in the context of the Czech educational system analyses the system of prevention of homophobia and transphobia as well as possibilities of supporting questioning youth - adolescents who question their sexuality or gender identity. This master thesis provides an analysis of theoretical concepts regarding LGBTQ* adolescents, gender socialisation and institutional education. I followed three main research questions: It attempts to find answers to the following research questions: 1) How do people who are working at school counselling centres perceive questioning youth or LGBTQ* adolescents? 2) Which tools of prevention do the schools have in the areas of sexual and gender identity based discrimination or bulling and which ones do they actually use? 3) What does the systemic support of schools in the field of homophobia and transphobia prevention look like? Semi-structured interviews conducted with school counsellor and school psychologists have been chosen as a main research method. Gay fatherhood. Expression of Activism in the Czech Context?

This thesis elaborates on the concept of gay fatherhood, which has been so far insufficiently researched and discussed phenomenon, especially in the Czech Republic. The thesis explores attitudes of interviewed gay men towards questions of gay fatherhood. In-depth semi-structural interviews with 30 gay men investigated in what ways the matters of gay fatherhood are constructed in the Czech context; where and how the conceptions about gay fatherhood emerge and how they are maintained and/or transformed. In general, an important factor affecting one's desire to have children is prevailing institutional context. Institutional barriers and obstacles to having children that are systematically constructed by society, affect not only the mainstream population, but also (and above all) gay population. Therefore, building on review of relevant academic texts, the thesis focuses on a comparison of the Czech institutional context with the Scandinavian and Spanish one. Comparison of different models of enforcement of legislation concerning same-sex partnerships reveals key factors that enable institucionalization of same-sex partnerships/families. 20th CENTURY AS AN EXPERIENCE OF ONE CONCRETE WOMAN

The aim of my diploma work is to find, how are concrete periods and events reflected in a life of concrete women, how were her acts influenced by gender norms and stereotypes of the society, and how much felt this woman limited by them. As a method was chosen the oral history, that enables working with the life stories of people of all kinds of social status and experiences. Its based on biografical life stories, that are analized and interpreted by the research. In the case of my narrator was chosen my grandma, born in the 1922 in agricultural society. This caused that her life experiences dont correspond with the picture of her period, that we know from the historiographical mainstream production, accenting the city middle classes. Therefore it is - by usány the oral history and the analytical category gender - possible to make an original wiev at the events and period of the twentieth century in the way lived by concrete women. This wiev, often marginalizing political events accented by mainstream history, and accenting everyday life influenced by the gender system more, is the vivid proof how much different can be the apprehention of the life according to the context and the concrete life experiences.

The female role in the armed forces - woman's position in the Police of the Czech Republic

This diploma thesis introduces a gender analysis of a present standing of women in the Police of the Czech Republic as seen by policewomen - students of the Police Academies themselves. The thesis investigates whether, in the policewomen's view, there are unrecognized and institutionally built-in gender stereotypes which determine women's and men's positions and acts; whether there exists equal treatment of women and men and equal opportunities of women and men (for example in terms of remuneration, decision-making, career growth, access to further education, etc.) in the context of the Czech Police. The theoretical part of the thesis focuses on a gender analysis of Police materials covering the historical development of women's positions in the armed forces of the Czech Republic, legal aspects of service in such forces as well as a review of reports and priorities pertaining to equal opportunities issued by the Czech Ministry of the Interior. 6 Within the quantitative research, a questionnaire survey addressing 60 policewomen studying at Secondary Police School of the Ministry of the Interior and at the Police Academy of the Czech Republic in Prague was conducted from April 2008 to May 2008.
