"Visual communication analysis. The case of contemporary European theatre posters"

The aim of the diploma thesis is to describe and define basic principles of visual communication from the point of view of mass communication theory and classical media theory and to attempt to create a basic synthesis of these branches. The visual communication is currently dominating form of communication not only in advertising and marketing, but also from the point of purely artistic expressing, which nowadays abandons classical conservative techniques and searches for new ways of expressions. The focus on the diploma on European theatre poster, which is a factual synthesis of those trends, allows adequately assessment the relevance of media theory in relation to visual communication as a way of addressing recipients with the information given in a form of an image. The topic of European poster has been chosen to widely demonstrate the general acceptance of visual communication as a part of sociocultural discursion in a global sense. Another dimension of a theatre poster is its function in public space and the possibilities of the audience to accept the message in these surroundings. On the background of relevant media theory it will also be presented the position of contemporary theatre poster among new trends of mass communication. Singing competitions SuperStar and XFactor in czech press-Blesk, Mladá fronta DNES

In this thesis, the author focus on the description of mass, later called popular culture, and its products, the two selected, originally British, talent singing reality show, "Česko hledá SuperStar" (and "Česko Slovenská SuperStar") and X Factor. Their competitors are the subject for qualitative research of articles in periodical press. The aim of the research is using qualitative content analysis to analyse "Mladá fronta DNES" and "Blesk", and how published texts construct contestants of selected shows. For research was selected period of time when the competition was broadcasted, February - June 2004; February - June 2008 and September - December 2009.

The main topic of this bachelor's thesis named Media Image of Prague's Private Art Galleries in Mladá fronta or Mladá fronta Dnes in 1990-1992 is the depiction of Prague's fine arts'scene in this selected national daily during the period of so called spontaneous media privatization. The thesis aims to find out - by means of a combination of quantitative and qualitative approach to content analysis - whether the readers had the use of enough information about Prague's (particularly private) art galleries. The thesis consists of a theoretic and an analytic part. The first one is an overview of the historical context of media and culture during the socialist period in Czechoslovakia (1948-1989) followed by the description of media transformation after the velvet revolution and the fall of the totalitarian regime in 1989. Described events were chosen so that they are related to the development of printed media and cultural changes mainly in the field of fine arts at that time. The analytic part is itself the analysis of the daily Mladá fronta or Mladá fronta Dnes, which was privatized right after 1989. Media view of the velvet revolution in the representative anniversaries

The diploma thesis called Media view of the Velvet Revolution in the representative anniversaries deals with the 1st, 5th, 10th, 15th and 20th anniversary of a coup d'état in Czechoslovakia in 1989 from the point of view of various Czech media. The diploma thesis primarily on the basis of quantitative analysis tries to trace the differences and similarities in the treatment of this topic in dailies Mladá fronta DNES, Rudé právo, Právo and Lidové noviny, news portals iDnes and Novinky and the main news program of Czech Television Události. In the first chapter, the author approaches the causes of the Velvet Revolution and the detail is devoted to a crucial period from action against the student march on Národní třída on November 17th till general strike on November 27th 1989. The second chapter deals with a media point of view on history in general. The third chapter contains the results of quantitative analysis of media content dedicated to the anniversary of mentioned media. Finally, the author summarized the most important findings of his work.
Specific features of the music publicistic in representative printed magazines in the period of net-media discourse

This thesis deals with specifics of textual formulas of music journalism in magazines Týden, Reflex and Respekt and it is based on their articles published from January to July 2011. It contains a content analysis of the word-stock with a special interest in metaphors ant its position in our language. We can see the way how we understand the reality around us which is based on a conceptualization in our minds. And then it reflects how we speak and what meanings we give to concrete words. These metaphoric concepts are followed with concrete examples coming from articles. There is also paid attention to colloquiality and bookishness and their suitability in today's media discourse. There is made a comparison of the individual writing of journalists who represent these magazines and we can also see different attitude in processing the same or similar topics. The theoretic part of this thesis follows the history of criticism with special interest in music criticism. Then we compare today's position of this media discourse and we can also see trends which might be followed in the future.
Media image comparison of the end of world war II in czech and german reviews of the movie "habermann"

The thesis performs a qualitative content analysis of reviews of the movie Habermann, published from October 2010 to October 2011, with the goal of researching statements of texts' authors relating to historical events depicted in the movie. The paper gives an analysis of reviews published in Czech and German printed and electronic media and compares them in order to abstract universally applicable views of the issues of the end of war and subsequent events in the eyes of members of national groups directly participating in these events. The theoretical part of the thesis includes brief historical interpretation of the way to expulsion of Germans and its process, factual background of origin of the movie Habermann and introduction to Czech and German relationship from the view of philosophy of history.
Marketing and advetising of fine arts in Czech republik

The bachelor thesis "Marketing and promotion of the National Gallery in Prague in 2010-2011" discusses communication options of the most famous fine art institution in the Czech Republic. The introduction explains the function of an art museum as a medium and describes particular modes of transmission of information between an artwork, exposition and audience. It briefly portrays the function of the National Gallery today and in the past, as well as the services offered. The main part of the thesis focuses on specific characteristics of marketing of museums and galleries and these are accompanied by particular examples from the practice of the National Gallery and by statistical data. The bachelor thesis defines the product of this institution, ways in which it is offered to the public and especially means of promotion.

The aim of this Diploma thesis is to create a media image of dancing issues in the selected Czech media in 2011. The research is focused on the selected Czech national dailies and weeklies and public broadcast media. The introductory chapter deals with the dance types which were identified in the content analysis and the development of dance in the country. The space is also dedicated to the Czech dance education, theater facilities, selected dance groups and the summary of existing studies of the dance phenomenon in the field of media studies. The second chapter is devoted to the methodology, the process and outcomes of the research part of the thesis. The quantitative content analysis was determined to be the method of the research part of this Diploma thesis. The third chapter is based on the results of a quantitative content analysis. The chapter is focused on the current dance reviewers, whose texts were identified in the research part of the thesis. Another part of the chapter is dedicated to the publishing of dance topics in the national media and the individual communication with selected personalities of Czech dance critics identified in the results of quantitative content analysis. This diploma thesis named The Comparison of Media Image of Czech film awards - The Czech Lion and The Czech Film Critics Award in years 2011 - 2013 analyses the media image of those film awards in printed media. As a method is used the qualitative analysis - the Grounded theory and research is made from four types of media - newspapers, weeklies, cultural magazines and tabloids. The aim of this diploma thesis is comparison of articles about those awards and evaluation of Czech cinematography's media image through czech film awards.
Magazines for preschool children during the period 1990-2000

Title: Magazines for preschool children during the period 1990 - 2000 Author: Kateřina Veitová Supervisor: Mgr. Radim Wolák The thesis deals with analysis of market with magazines for preschool children between years 1990 and 2000. The first part describes the transformation of media environment and conditions for issuing periodicals. Also monitors all the titles that were issued during the period, and notes the impact that the publishing business conditions changes had on them. In the second part, the thesis focuses on the development of selected titles in terms of external and internal characters in the specified period and compares these titles with each other. For the purpose of the analysis were selected titles: Bobik, Medvídek Pú, Méďa Pusík, Mickey Mouse, Kačer Donald and Sluníčko, there were analyzed every two copies of each year in the period from 1990 to 2000 when the magazines were published. To achieve our goals, the qualitative research methods and study of relevant literature were used. The thesis also includes a chapter devoted to the profile of preschool age, for better orientation in the subject.
