Information and knowledge in decision making

This diploma work is devoted to information and knowledge in decision process. It tries to solve question, what support can provide computers for this activity. In generally it deals with role of information and decision making process, problem category and sketch possible solutions. First chapter is devoted to principles of decision making, role of rationality is analysed in next chapter, also roles of knowledge and values. Content of third chapter is computer support and embedded knowledge. Fourth chapter solves obtaining and valuation knowledge, while fifth chapter divides problems into single types and their models. Options and limits of computer support are summarized in last chapter during decision making.
Knowledge in the information society

In spite of the fact that contemporary society is called information or knowledge society, the meaning of terms information and knowledge is often out of our attention. The author seeks, bearing in mind the seriousness of discussed topics in the text, to present a systemic view with emphasis on the interrelationship between ideas and phenomena, based on a thorough definition of the theoretical foundations. The main aim of this work is to (from several different perspectives) point out selected important consequences of knowledge "objectification". It turns out that theme of education plays a major role in response to the question which modern society faces in the context of informatization.
Man, information and ICT: The developing of information society

This thesis draws attention to two-way relationship between a man and information which significance is substantially increased with the development of so-called information society. First we define the basic concepts and approaches on this issue and then some issues that arise from the above mentioned relationship will be discussed. We will emphasize particularity of interpretation of information and influence of information on decisions and actions of man and possibilities of its misuse. In the end the attention will be paid to the information society as a whole and to its current and likely future developments. We will use, in the Czech literature rarely mentioned, evolutionary-cybernetic model of society.
Information ethics in information society

The aim of this paper is to highlight the importance of information ethics that is becoming in today's society more and more indispensable. The company is viewed primarily in terms of information, which dominates the world, and therefore are defined terms such as "information" or "information society". There si also briefly described the evolution of ethics and its current role. The purpose of this work is to acknowledge that it is very important to respect certain rules when working with information because we are in contact with information every day. Increase awareness of information ethics is the main benefit of this work. At the very end, where is described the influence of ethics on information society, the reader is able to answer questions like "What is the role of information ethics?" or "It's important to respect the ethical rules?"
Information as a basis for stock trading

The objective of the thesis is to characterize the importance of information and consequently also of knowledge as the bases for active dealing in the stock market. The fundamental terms of information credibility, disinformation and information asymmetry, which have a cardinal effect on behaviour of particular participants of the market, are mentioned in the thesis. The theory of effective markets and the factors due to which it is not able to explain the development and the real state of the contemporary stock markets, are analysed in more detail in the thesis. A considerable part of the thesis is devoted to the analysis and the definition of information need as a basic requirement for making successful investment decisions of an individual, whereas ways to its fulfilment are implied -- including a description and a division of available information sources. The description and the analysis of several dealing strategies which are directly based on usage of various kinds of information are not missing in the thesis. A part of the work is a presentation and an analysis of the results of a research made among real investors.
Influence of Internet over information society

This thesis deals with the influence of Internet over information society. The Internet has been with us by second part of twentieth century, and has become phenomena of society today. It'll be the same in 21th century. The first part of thesis describes terms refer to the Internet -- at first data, information, through knowledge to terms as information society or computer network. The second part is about Internet as medium -- history, essence, globalization, data selection or education of information society. First captures of practical part deal with data analysis from Czech statistical office. This part contents for example data of comparison with computer and Internet development in Czech republic. Then follow collected results from questionnaire of individual influence over the Internet for information society -- amount of information, fun in Internet, influence of social network on real life and credibility of information. The main point of questionnaire investigation was to find opinion of respondent about future development of each aspect. This had been compared with personal sight in issues.
Privacy, individuality and reality: their losses in social networks

This thesis is focused on the current phenomenon, the social networks and their huge increase in the last years followed by the associated changes in their perception by the society and the development of the perception of privacy itself. The most important part of the work is dedicated to the pitfalls that the social networks and all communications bring through information technology. The thesis describes the currently most known networks that are used in the Czech Republic. A detailed investigation and analysis of the terms of use is focused on the probably nowadays most widespread and most used social network called Facebook. The following chapter shows a huge displacement in the basic settings and in the user's perception of privacy. This part also brings the recommended ways to setup. The last section presents the causes connected with the theme of this thesis and they are commented by author's point of view. The thesis ends by the summarizing of recommended measures and the overall conclusion of the theme.
Mass News Media in the Information Society

This work deals with mass media and influence of modern technology on them. The goal is to familiarise the reader with all the aspects it brings. First part is aimed on the terminology and the history of mass media. The second part closely investigates the current state of mass media. It clarifies the role of entertainment they contain, analyses internet news websites, describes current trends on the internet. It investigates the current crisis of printed mass media and introduces the reader not only as a receiver of information communicated by mass media, but also as a co-creator of it. This work also aims at the influence of the mass media in the society. Third chapter is about the research among journalists and experts on the mass media, but also among the public. In this, the hypothesis are confronted with the findings of the research.
Information systems benefit quantification

This study shows basic and advanced methods of information systems benefit quantification and applies selected methods to a real life problem. The practical part has been used to justify an information systems investment of already implemented and future systems. This work also appeals to a need of theoretical background and practical creativity when quantifying social properties of information systems. It is unacceptable to tolerate laical stance against social concepts of information systems and their quantification.
New Media and Society

The thesis deals with the phenomenon of new media and its influence on the society. The work especially applies itself to the impact of new media on human conduct and human knowledge. The first part (Chapters: introduction and theoretical bases) of the thesis introduces the dilemma of new media and the society; it deals with a theoretical media frame, communication, knowledge and some selected implications of informatization. The third chapter (Media evolution) tries to map media evolution from the emergence of language until contemporary electronic media with regard to consumer's limitations, society and media itself. The fourth chapter (Impact of new media on human knowledge and human conduct) deals with, from two perspectives, some current topics as the media influence on society. The first view delivers an insight on the relationship of new media and knowledge. It refers to information abundance to the detriment of information quality, the tendency of access acceleration to information and working with information. This chapter in particular cases shows how information can become an effective tool for manipulation of power, political and economic interests. It also indicates risks of wrong human decision making due to misinformation. The second view suggests changes in human behaviour in cyberspace; it indicates what are signs of confluence of "front stage" and "back stage" behaviour. The fifth chapter (Empirical research), with respect to previous parts of this work, defines hypothesis of the new media influence on the knowledge and human conduct; it attempts to prove their validation in this research. The sixth chapter (How to use new media) suggests a way which should be followed by the society providing that education of an individual who stands up to the information and media society shall be the aim of the society. The last chapter (Conclusion) summarizes the basic ideas, provides for possible solutions and outlines a trend which should be, in relation to new media, followed by the society.
