Effect of changes in selected tax atcs on economic status of the state
Vildová, Iveta ; Hronza, Martin (advisor) ; Rod, Aleš (referee)
This thesis verifies the positive impact of income law changes on economy due to relative reduction of statutory income tax rate during last years and negative impact growing statutory value added tax rate. The theoretical part presents studies that comment on the tax burden and economic state of the country. In practical part is performed the regression analysis on the data by 2012 obtained mainly from Czech Statistical Office and legal systems ASPI and Codexis. Basic statutory rates of corporate and value-added taxes are significant with negative effect on GDP. Finally, the work confirms the results of other studies regarding the influence of these taxes on economic state of the country.
Analysis of factors affecting the behavior of consumers when shopping on the Internet
Luňák, Adam ; Rod, Aleš (advisor) ; Špecián, Petr (referee)
Throughout the Thesis I deal with distinctions between each day of the week based on daily amount of orders and their total cost during the internet shopping process. I take into account data from the Czech republic and Slovakia as well. Based on the patterns a 1% increase in wages leads to a 5,49% increase in amount of orders in the Czech republic and a 5,87% increase in Slovakia. There has been also proved that men buy online more often and spends more per each order than women. Monday has been proved as the most frequent day of the week considering total quantity of orders and their total cost. Weather effects are random and an accurate trend cannot be determined.
The affect of installation of blue zones of paid parking on price of prague residential real estates
Kohora, Jan ; Brožová, Dagmar (advisor) ; Rod, Aleš (referee)
This thesis is focused on the quantification of the influence of installation of blue zones of paid parking in Prague and other factors (square metres, the distance to centre, kind of a building...) on the offer price of residential real estates. The thesis assumes that installation of blue zones increase a comfort of residents and due to this increase also a price of real estates in this area. Data set consists of 629 observations. The influence of the factors influencing the offer price of real estates is measured by ordinary least squares. The result of regression analysis shows that existence of blue zones nearby the residential real estate increases its price by nearly 7 %. But the result hasn't been confirmed by the method difference in differences. Furthermore, it was found by OLS that in case of brick building, its price is ceteris paribus higher by 19,8 % than if the building is from panel. This result is almost identical with what Galster a Williams (1994) have measured in Ohio. Every next minute from center means decrease of price of residential real estate by 1,2 %. The positive influence of cellar and elevator hasn't been proven.
ECONOMIC ASPECTS OF HEALTH PROMOTION
Kůrková, Kateřina ; Chytil, Zdeněk (advisor) ; Rod, Aleš (referee)
The main aim of this thesis is to point out the economical aspects of health promotion and prevention as an investment in health. The teoretical part is based on concepts of economists, who dealt with human capital and investment in health. Because of problems with rising costs in health care and demographic changes in Czech Republic, there is an analysis of health promotion programs, which enforce healthy lifestyle in population. Health prevention can have a positive effect on reducing costs in health care. To demonstrate this effect, the model of relationship between obesity and diabetes type 2 is created. The positive correlation between rising of number of people with obesity and rising of number of people with diabetes type 2 is detected on the set of time series data for Czech Republic. The positive correlation is proved for men, women and the entire Czech population aged 15 years and over with Cochrane-Orcutt estimation. The quantification of the cost reduction in health care because of health prevention is made in the conclusion.
Are Czechs superstitious or the effect of Friday the 13th in accidents on Czech highways
Koucká, Lucie ; Hronza, Martin (advisor) ; Rod, Aleš (referee)
The aim of this thesis is to find out whether Friday the thirteenth as a chosen representative of the superstition has an influence to the number of traffic accidents in the Czech Republic. The hypothesis that is being verified is that on Friday the thirteenth, drivers will be more cautious resulting in less accidents. Based on the five year long time series the model is estimated using the ordinary least squares with robust standard errors where the endogenous variable is daily number of car accidents. The exogenous variables are Friday the thirteenth, the public holidays, the precipitation, the average daily temperatures and the gas prices. The "Friday the thirteenth" variable turned out as statistically non-significant. Based on the results of the econometric analysis we can reject the hypothesis of this thesis. This conclusion was further confirmed by the results of the survey conducted.
Rozuzlení vztahu korupce a šedé ekonomiky
Rais, Jonáš ; Rod, Aleš (advisor) ; Potužák, Pavel (referee)
This paper analyses the relationship between corruption and shadow economy. Synthesis of existing theoretical models and the empirical findings in this paper show that different types of corrupt behavior interact with shadow economy differently. Therefore, the relationship between contexts differs. Overall, it seems that the mechanisms leading to the complementary relationship are more prevalent. The results also imply that the quality of public goods available in the official economy influences where the different types of corrupt behavior manifest. When the quality of the public goods is high, corruption and shadow economy appear to be substitutes and when the quality is low, they are complements. However, the relationship is not robust and depends upon the measures used to assess the public goods quality. Furthermore, corruption and shadow economy seem to be complements in decentralized countries and countries with high taxes.
Efekt relativního věku: Případ České republiky
Dzholdoshev, Semen ; Vokoun, Marek (advisor) ; Rod, Aleš (referee)
Consequences of an advantage a child gains whenever he is relatively more mature than his competition from the same cohort are called theRelative Age Effect (RAE). The RAE has been of insterest to researchers throughout the world since the 1960s. Proper understanding of this issue would help us with eradication of the DWL created by inefficient selection processes. Up to this point, imperfect statistical methods were used for examining the RAE. Economists have begun to attempt to fix that. This paper continues with that work by applying the instrumental variable approach on data from the Czech Republic. Data from the Czech Tennis Association and a primary school were collected and analysed. The RAE was not found in the primary school, most likely due to insufficient data set and consequential omitted variable bias. Weak, but statistically significant RAE was found in Czech tennis competitions.
Which determinants influence the fuel excise duty collection?
Šubrt, David ; Rod, Aleš (advisor) ; Slaný, Martin (referee)
The thesis searches for determinants of excise duty collection in the Czech Republic and quantifies them using ordinary least squares on data from years 2008-2012. The most important determinants are: Czech excise duty, the effect of winter and toll rate in Czech Republic, all of which have a negative influence on the Czech excise duty collection; excise duty in Germany and Poland and traffic density, all of which have a positive influence on the Czech excise duty collection.
Luxury economics: Comparative study of conspicuous consumption among students of The University of Economics in Prague and Technical University of Liberec
Reichelt, Patrik ; Rod, Aleš (advisor) ; Mirvald, Michal (referee)
The aim of this thesis is connect to BA František Staněk (who analysed conspicuous consumption on students at The University of Economics in Prague) and verifying hypotheses on students of Technical University of Liberec. Thesis is extended to analysis of the impact of technical education. Main conclusions of this thesis were obtained by statistical and regression analysis of data from a survey. Each brand of consumer electronics are perceived very differently in terms of social status which they express. There is a strong relationship between price of a product and and its signaling value. Students of technical disciplines show a dependency between product functionality and its ability to indicate social status. Others have no correlation.
Luxury economics - comparative analysis of conspicuous consumption among TBU, UEP and CTU students
Veselý, Pavel ; Rod, Aleš (advisor) ; Babin, Jan (referee)
This thesis focuses on the comparison of conspicuous consumption and purchase of counterfeit goods in different socioeconomic environments. For comparison, I analyzed results of the researches by Bc. Tomáš Štegmann and Bc. Jan Vágner, who deal with this issue at University of Economics in Prague (UEP) and Czech Technical University in Prague (CTU). Then I compared it with results of my survey made at Tomas Bata University in Zlín (TBU). I was able to confirm the assumption of less knowledge and worse awareness of luxury goods among students in Zlín. In the case of students of TBU low income does not play a significant role in the acquisition of a counterfeit in the future, unlike UEP and CTU. Conversely, significant factors at TBU are negative impression of an individual with counterfeit, purchase of a counterfeit in the past and recognition of fake. Negative impression of an individual with a counterfeit is consistent with findings at UEP and CTU. Purchase of a counterfeit in the past does not have significant effect on the future buy of counterfeit at both schools in Prague and effect of recognition of fake is at TBU similar to CTU. Compared to UEP, the effect has opposite direction. At TBU more students have already bought fake and also they avoid buying counterfeits in the future less than the students of UEP and CTU. Perception of counterfeiting as a crime is comparable at all schools -- it's not a serious crime.
