Types of food wasting in Czech households
Spurná, Jana ; Richter, Eva (advisor) ; Vomáčka, Aleš (referee)
(in English): Food waste is a growing problem in the 21st century, with households responsible for more than half of all food waste. Food waste occurs due to the combination of consumption planning, shopping, storage, preparation, consumption, and disposal of food, together with other factors. Based on an analysis of respondents' answers from the Food 2021 survey conducted by CVVM on a representative sample of the Czech population aged 15 to 90 (n = 884), four segments were identified. The results show that "Wasteful Composters" (30.54% of households), whose higher food waste per household is based on the difficulty of providing food for children, represent a good group to target in efforts to reduce waste. "Careless wasters" (21.44%) with their general lack of interest in food waste and food in general represent the worst group in terms of food waste in Czech society. While "Thrifty" (20.5%), who tend to be older, show how experience, time, and economic constraints support their low wastage, even though they do not perceive it as a problem. The least wasteful and most environmentally active are the "Proactive" (27.51%) who are more likely to have a college degree. Taking into account the results of this work can improve the effectiveness of anti-food waste interventions. Key words (in English):...
The perceived link between environmentally friendly behavior and social status
Pourová, Barbora ; Richter, Eva (advisor) ; Šafr, Jiří (referee)
The aim of this thesis was to find out how the perception of environmentally friendly behavior and social status are related, more precisely, how Czechs perceive individual examples of environmentally friendly behavior, whether they increase social status, or rather if they are associated with saving money or protecting nature. I conducted a questionnaire survey on the topic. Czechs perceive activities of environmentally friendly behavior differently than abroad, where activities that increase social status mainly include financially demanding and publicly visible activities. The questionnaire survey showed that Czechs also consider other levels in their social status and therefore include less visible and financially inexpensive activities among them. They have a negative perception of excessive activism.
Relation of risk perception with cultural worldviews and value orientation of the Czech population
Ruso, Filip ; Richter, Eva (advisor) ; Vinopal, Jiří (referee)
(in English) This thesis deals with the perception of risk in the context of social sciences in the Czech environment. The thesis specifically examines the connection of risk perception with cultural worldviews and value orientations. Risk perception is measured using Likert scales of risk items, cultural worldviews through the concept of cultural cognition, which is based on the cultural theory of Douglas and Wildavsky, and value orientations through Schwartz's PVQ scales. Analysis of the data from the online questionnaire survey showed that only two of the four cultural worldviews - hierarchism and individualism - are transferable to the Czech environment, and therefore two indices - positive discrimination and empathy and anti- individualism - were created from the remaining items. Furthermore, cultural worldviews, unlike value orientations, were found to be more closely related to specific risk items and to contribute significantly to explaining risk perception. Hierarchists, for example, see great danger in accepting foreign migrants and, together with individualists, show greater concern towards risks threatening the social order. Environmental risks raise concerns among supporters of positive discrimination and empathy. Value orientations, as opposed to cultural worldviews, are much better...
Corporate culture of a Czech company in relation to national culture and the company's operation on the international market
Volkova, Sofia ; Mudd, Dana (advisor) ; Richter, Eva (referee)
The subject of this bachelor's thesis is the research of corporate culture, its connection with national culture and the operation of the company on the international market. The aim of the thesis is to reveal how the employees and management of the selected Czech company perceive the corporate culture and to analyze the company's strategies in the field of the international market. To investigate the influence of national culture on management, a qualitative research methodology will be used using Geert Hofstede's questionnaire. The output of the conducted research are indices that can be used to reveal values influenced by national culture. The result of the work from an academic point of view is an insight into the projection of the features of national culture on the functioning of a modern Czech company and a stimulus to a more extensive analysis of the importance of national culture in the business environment. The work can also be used by the analyzed company to map the internal climate of the organization.
Study stays abroad for students with special needs
Špinka, Aneta ; Richter, Eva (advisor) ; Sládek, Jan (referee)
(in English): Going to a foreign university is very difficult for a number of students with specific needs, according to the available data, only 0.15% of students with specific needs are among all Erasmus+ program participants, while at universities they make up a group of 10-20 % of all students (Evropská Komise, 2014). That is why I focused my research on the question of what are the biggest barriers for students with specific needs when arranging and implementing a scholarship programm. And whether they generally consider the stay experience to be beneficial for their subsequent life and career. I chose motivation as an additional variable, because it is necessary on the way to the decision to go. Since my goal was to obtain the most faithful description of events and experiences, I chose a qualitative study carried out in the form of semi-structured interviews. These were held with students with specific needs who had already participated in the stay. During the analysis, I looked at the results obtained through the lens of the concept of equal opportunities. I conclude that equality of opportunity is achieved because there are mechanisms by which students with specific needs can be adequately integrated into the study abroad programms, but due to a flaw in the system and communication within...
"Living on my terms": a reflection of topics affecting in decision for longterm living in alternative housing
Corradi, Veronika ; Richter, Eva (advisor) ; Sládek, Jan (referee)
(in English): This thesis focuses on how residents reflect their decision to permanently live in an alternative housing object. The theoretical part of the text includes three sections focusing on environmentally significant behaviour, consumer behaviour and models and on theories that have been used in the past for research of environmentally significant behaviour in housing and have been used as a theoretical background for this thesis. Data for this thesis was collected through semi-structured in-depth interviews with respondents who live in an alternative object on a long-term or permanent basis as part of their normal living arrangements. It was also assumed that living in an alternative object was the intention and preference of the respondents. Transcribed interviews were analysed using the principles of grounded theory. The analysis resulted in eight concepts entering into the consideration of permanently living in alternative housing objects. As the central concept, the statement "living on my terms" was chosen. The expression "living on my terms" was closely tied to the respondents' personal pro- environmental norms, which were the primary motivation for executing the intention. Furthermore, opportunity and ability to execute the intention are also important variables. Findings from this...
Factors related to the eco-certified clothing and textile consumer behaviour
Petty, Silvia ; Richter, Eva (advisor) ; Mazák, Jaromír (referee)
This Master's thesis analyses purchasing behaviour in relation to eco-certified sustainable clothing and verifies the applicability of the theory of planned behaviour (TPB) model and its expansions and identifies socio-psychological factors determining the decision-making when purchasing eco-certified clothing in the Czech environment. A comparison of the TPB model and extended models showed that the TPB model itself, consisting of attitude towards purchase, subjective norm and perceived behavioural control as determinants of intention, has worse results compared to the extended model, therefore, in order to explain the intention to purchase eco-certified clothing, its expansion with other variables is appropriate. The extended TPB model showed that other factors are also determining the intention. By adding additional variables to the model, the perceived behavioural control lost statistical significance at the 95% significance level. With a greater interest in the origin of fashion and environmentally friendly behaviour, a growing subjective norm, with greater knowledge of certificates and with a better attitude towards the purchase of certified clothing, the intention to purchase such clothing is growing. The model extended by sociodemographic variables did not show a statistically significant...
The link between environmentally friendly behavior and social status
Pourová, Barbora ; Richter, Eva (advisor) ; Vinopal, Jiří (referee)
In my diploma thesis I wanted to find out how environmentally friendly behaviour and social status are related. More precisely, how Czech people perceive individual examples of environmentally friendly behavior; whether they think they increase social status, or instead associate them with saving money and/ or protecting the environment. I conducted a survey on this topic. Czechs perceive activities of environmentally friendly behavior differently than abroad. Even such activities as reducing electricity consumption (2nd place) or reducing water consumption (4th place) were considered to increase the social status of the executor, alongside more financially demanding activities such as installing solar panels (1st place) and buying an electric or hybrid car (3rd place), which with its position confirmed the results from abroad.
Attitude-behaviour gap in sustainable fashion consumption
Vrabcová, Johanna ; Richter, Eva (advisor) ; Skovajsa, Marek (referee)
In today's fast-paced world, it is no surprise that fast fashion has come to the forefront of consumer behaviour in the fashion industry. Fast fashion, with its huge overproduction makes the fashion industry the second largest polluter of the environment. Sustainable consumption, which is environmentally friendly and therefore offers several solutions to today's distressing situation, contrasts with today's fashion consumption. In connection with this fact, the aim of my bachelor thesis was to describe and explain the causes that lead to the discrepancy between pro-environmental attitudes and inconsistent behaviour, in other words, the existence of attitude-behaviour gap in the fashion industry. Through the method of synthesis of the scientific literature and a number of research studies, are described theoretically substantiated the barriers that are described by the respondents in the research studies as the main causes of their unsustainable consumption behaviour. Apart from the barriers, several possible solutions are explained in response to these causes. One of the main findings of this work is to emphasize the fact that examining the relationship between attitude, intention, and behavior in addressing the attitude-behaviour gap can be problematic, because social factors such as social...
The relationship between sustainability and wellbeing its connection with mitigation and adaptation policies
Čižinská, Kateřina ; Richter, Eva (advisor) ; Lupač, Petr (referee)
The topic of this bachelor thesis is the relationship between sustainability and wellbeing and its connection with mitigation and adaptation policies. For the relationship between sustainability and wellbeing, the history and definitions of the terms themselves are described and then the overall multidimensionality of the concept and the individual dimensions are shown through the relational theory of wellbeing. Subsequently, the interconnection of these concepts is discussed along with the disregard for a full understanding of wellbeing in an economic growth orientation. For the mitigation and adaptation section, 11 studies were selected. At the end, the conclusions are presented: Wellbeing is often understood in a limited way, while it is clear from the theories described that wellbeing is also conditioned by the environment, and environmental sustainability is a necessary condition for wellbeing. Similarly, mitigation and adaptation policies have been shown to have some link to wellbeing, but often wellbeing has not been understood as important and has been put in the background of research. However, the relationship between sustainability and wellbeing is also important for further research on climate change mitigation and adaptaton policies.
