"He took care of everything possible, but not his parish.": Rudolf Horský (1852-1926) between politics and his parish
Hantáková, Anna ; Pokorná, Magdaléna (advisor) ; Šebek, Jaroslav (referee)
(in English): The topic of my thesis will be the selected life problems of Rudolf Horský, a Catholic priest, politician, and journalist. While Horský's political activity has already been partially discussed, in my work I will focus on Horský's privacy and everyday life, which will reveal a new perspective on the social position and possibilities of a politically active Catholic priest. Horský was an important figure of Christian socialism, which was forming at the end of the 19th century, but in fact he also contributed in a certain extent to the negative image of Catholics in society. In my work, among other things, I will try to offer some answers to the question of why it has happened so. It is Horský's private life that reveals some of the obstacles by which the priest-politician was limited and frustrated. It is about the overall limitation of the possibilities of a politically active priest. For example, the question of the priest's freedom of speech, financial dependence on the church or lack of time. Horský's priestly identity will be discussed as well. The sources that I use are, on the one hand, materials stored in the Národní archiv, primarily Horský's communication with his superiors. On the other hand, Horský's correspondence with Jindřich Šimon Baar, partially stored in the Památník...
M. J. Fesl, J. F. Hurdálek and the Bolzanism in the Litoměřice Priestly Seminary
Pichnerová, Anna ; Tinková, Daniela (advisor) ; Pokorná, Magdaléna (referee)
The present thesis deals with the life and work of the Czech-German priest Michael Joseph Fesl (1788- 1864), one of the most important followers of Bernard Bolzano and a leading representative of his school of thought. It follows him especially in the context of Bolzanism as it developed in the Leitmeritz seminary where Fesl was a preses. In this context, the thesis also notes the personality and work of Bishop Josef František Hurdálek (1747-1833), who was affected by the trial of the Bolzanians in a similarly tangible way as Fesl. However, it does not neglect the fate of these personalities after they were forced to leave the seminary. It follows Fesl during his years of involuntary exile in Austria. It does not omit also other aspects of Fesl's activities either, such as the publication of Bolzano's works abroad (especially in Sulzbach, Bavaria), or the bequest of books to the Czech National Museum in the spirit of Bolzanist charity. With the help of sources such as correspondence and articles of reminiscence in the contemporary press, the thesis tries to capture the way of working and the atmosphere of the Leitmeritz seminary. It seeks to interpret in the light of the religious thought of the Bolzanists and in the context of Enlightenment Catholicism in general Fesl's works, for the example the...
Life and business of Jindřich Fišer and his descendants
Kreuz, Vojtěch ; Pokorná, Magdaléna (advisor) ; Foltýn, Dušan (referee)
This work is about Jindřich Fišer, but also about several of his descendants, who in their lives devoted themselves mainly to the operation of various gastronomic enterprises in the ter- ritory of the capital city of Prague. In writing the work I based mainly on various archival ma- terials, which are stored in the Archives of the capital city of Prague, the National Archives or in the State Regional Archives in Prague. However, I was also supported by newspaper articles or materials from the private archives of living persons. In addition to the already mentioned Jindřich Fišer, who operated a brewery in Přerov nad Labem at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, the text focuses on the life stories of two of his sons - Václav, who between the years 1938 and 1948 operated with his son Zdeněk the Café Slavia near the National Theatre, and Jindřich, who connected his life with a bar of not very good reputation in the Old Town Square. Part of the second chapter is also devoted to the business activities of one of Jindřich's grandsons, Jaroslav Fišer, and his confectionery in Hy- bernská Street in the New Town of Prague. However, in addition to the life stories of the men- tioned persons, the work also tries to capture legal issues related to business during the First Czechoslovak Republic or the...

Pomykáčová, Kristína ; Tinková, Daniela (advisor) ; Pokorná, Magdaléna (referee)
Bachelor thesis is based on main masterpiece of Catholic priest Jozef Ignác Bajza, first novel written in Slovak The Adventure and Experiences of the Young Man René. The novel consists of two volumes, meanwhile this paper is primarily focused on the first one, where writer depicts manners and traditions in Muslim milieu. We point out, that Bajza represents very important phase of evolution of Slovak language. He realized an unsubstitutable role of national literary language and by his work he was trying to demonstrate that Slovak language is capable of literary works. Bajza's language was not codified, that is the reason why the language was not accepted as the Bernolak's, and stayed aside on the edge of the interest. In bachelor thesis we try to point out the way how was at todays Slovakia thinking about region of Orient with further focus on Turks. We do not try to sum up knowledge about Muslim culture or identity, but to present the method how in Slovak area people were thinking about Turkish ethnic. And for that aim we use Bajza's novel. Key words The Adventures and Experiences of the Young Man René, Turkish ethnic, novel, oriental elements, Slovak, Ottoman Empire
