Factual databases in chemistry

and keywords Bachelor thesis depicts factual databses in the field of chemistry. It focuses mainly on databases that cover all fields of chemistry. The thesis presents a general definition of databases and desribes their history and typology. Examples of various factual chemical information which can be searched through chemical databases, are described and shown. The factual chemical databases CAS REGISTRY, CAS REACT, PubChem, ChemSpider and Reaxys are described in detail and compared. Additionally, examples of chemical information searches in these databases are shown. Examples of specialized chemical databses that focus on specific kind of chemical information are listed. In conclusion, the importance of factual databases in providing relevant and correct chemical information for their users is evaluated. Open Access institutional repositories in the Czech Republic

The bachelor's thesis concentrates on analysis and description of current state of open access institutional repositories in the Czech Republic. The theoretical part of the thesis describes changes of scholarly communication, which led to development of open access movement, basics and methods of open access and open access movement in the Czech Republic. Besides it deals with open access policies of Czech institutions and involvement of Czech open repositories in international projects. The practical part contains the analysis of selected institutional repositories. The analysis concentrates on institutional policies of self-archiving, content of repository and its availability. It also deals with involvement of repositories in international projects, visibility of repositories and with software that the repositories use. In conclusion, these selected repositories are compared.

Internet searchings trends

Internet search has changed significantly since its beginning and it has also changed the way of information retrieval. Firstly, network search tools were created. However, greater development of internet search tools came after the creation of the Web. One of the first internet search tools were the web directories, such as Yahoo! or content directory Open Directory Project. Nowadays, web search engines are the most commonly used. Apart from general web search engines, there are also specialized or web search engines for particular aim or function, such as DuckDuckGo aimed at privacy, Yandex or Seznam.cz aimed at specific region or computational search engine WolframAlpha. Multimedia search and search adapted for mobile devices is technology trend in the field of internet search. Personalization, localization and social search belong among the contemporary trends. Semantic search is another long-lasting trend.

The aim of Bachelor's thesis is to describe Library of Vinohrady move in year of 2007. Initial part focuses on procedure of library move in theory, including definition of known methodics. Next parts of thesis focuse on the Library of Vinohrady move. The library is introduced including its brief history and comparison of library characteristics before the move (2006) and after the move (2008). Library move is described as a complex workflow which starts with design and reconstruction of new premises, continues with library collection move and ends with library re-opening. Thesis also emphasizes practical issues related to library move and describes their solutions.

The bachelor thesis "Technical norms and standards - their significance and search and search options in online systems" is focused on description and evaluation of the importance of technical norms and standards as a specific type of information sources. Also, it characterizes the situation and the technical standardization process in the Czech Republic and abroad, and compares selected retrieval systém of standards and norms. The work is divided into 5 parts. The first part contains the desription of the basic concepts explains, the use of standards, and their importance and defines types of standards. The second part outlines the technical standardization system in the Czech Republic, related organizations and legislation. The third part is focused on technical standardization in foreign countries, particularly on the selected standardization institutions. The fourth part deals with the classification of standards. The last part focuses on the comparison of two chosen (ČSN Online and ISO standards).

Natural language in web-based search engines

This study is focused on the natural language exploitation in the search engines of the specific web environment. This paper points out the multideparmental character of the problematic and interlink the basic approaches from linguistic, psychology, cognitive science, information science and neuropsychology to create more complex image of the problematic. Closer attention is given to the human as the impetus of the development and as the primary user of such search engines. Human information system is presented as model for the better user friendly information processing system. The character of the paper is fully theoretical and should give the theoretical background for further research. As the result of the research is recommended focus on the fully visual approach in the development with the exploitation of knowledges about HIS.

OPACs of foreign catalogue databases: current state of selected retrieval systems and perspectives of their advancement

Diplomová práce představuje vybrané zahraniční veřejně přístupné online katalogy knihoven, tzv. OPACy. Úvodní část je věnována stručnému vývoji OPACů, přiblížení jejich funkcí a nedostatků. Je v ní připomenuto rozšiřování knihovních fondů o fondy digitální i rozvoj webových technologií, což vede k nezbytné změně pohledu na knihovní katalog a dává prostor pro vznik tzv. OPACů nové generace. Jádrem práce je analýza vybraných OPACů nové generace. Pozornost je upřena na možnosti vyhledávání, práci s výsledky vyhledávání a implementaci nejrůznějších nadstavbových funkcí (RSS kanál, náhled obálek, uživatelské tagy, recenze aj.), které většina uživatelů může znát z blogů, nejrůznějších sociálních sítí, internetových knihkupectví atp.
