Testimonials Czechoslovak press the book burnings by German students of May 10, 1933

The aim of this bachelor thesis titled: "The Czechoslovak Press Acclaim for the Book Burning by the German Students on 10th May 1933" is not only to give complex insight into the background of those events but also into the events preceding as they are closely linked. The author's intention is to relate the events to the context of the atmosphere in the 1933 Czechoslovakia. The reactions of the Czechoslovak press to the book burning are discussed in a separate chapter as well as the response of Czechoslovakia's western neighbours. Library of Karel Teige - the source for studying literary history

(in English) The paper analyzes the personal library of Karel Teige, the leading theorist of the Czech avant-garde, with respect to its cultural and political context. It presents the available information on its history and its role for studying literary history, surrealism in particular. The literary estate of Karel Teige is currently located in the National Museum Library (3828 items), Museum of Czech Literature (PNP; approx. 290 items), and partly in private ownership. Its composition reflects Teige's lifelong active participation in Czech surrealism and incorporates valuable samizdat books from the wartime period, when surrealist activities were illegal.

in English: This bachelor thesis deals with the Most Beautiful Czech Book Contest press evaluations between 1966 and 1990, also regarding the overall quality of Czechoslovak book design, typography and polygraphy. Summarization of the historical development is carried out by analyzing contemporary specialized and nonspecialized periodicals. The work is divided into theoretical and historical context of the issue, the analysis itself and a brief biographical introduction to Oldřich Hlavsa, Milan Hegar and Jiří Rathouský, the three masters of Czechoslovak book design and typography.
Reaction of librarians to political and social situation in 1968

This bachelor thesis deals with the librarian activity in the period of the Prague Spring in 1968. Its main goal is to determine, based on the period press, the degree of involvement of the librarians in the reform process, the support as well as the criticism of the contemporary state and their demands for changes, in both professional and labour spheres. It describes the process of formation of the Association of Library and Information Professionals. It also discusses the relationship with the Slovak librarianship and the founding of the Slovak library association. The final part deals with the specific political activity of the librarians which is illustrated by the reactions to on-going changes during the reform process. That includes the reaction to the Action Program of the Communist Party and the support for this program, the reaction to the Warsaw Letter from July 1968 and the subsequent August occupation.
The Library of Jan Mikuláš Dobromil Arbeiter (1794-1870)

The subject of the present thesis is origin, evolution and analysis of a book collection of South Bohemian native, Prague citizen and patriot Jan Dobromil Arbeiter (1794-1870) in cultural, social and political context of his time. The work is based on archive sources and book provenance recordsand its main goal is to trace the journey of collection from its founder, via library of Reálné gymnázium (Human Studies Secondary School) in Tábor, and State Archive in Tábor to the possession of contemporary holder and maintainer Hussite Museum in Tábor. An analysis of the linguage structure, printing places and printers is based is one of the main parts of the work Majority of the book collection consists of the books in Czech language printed in the Bohemian region, predominantly in Prag. Most of them were printed in the printing house of Pospíšil family active in Prague and town of Hradec Králové. The main task of this thesis was to analyse the structure of Arbeiter book collection and to establish genre typology of books. The collection consists of books typical for the printing production of its time, but also of the books exceptional, either because of the year of publishing, content or its outer shape (e. g. illumination). Library of voyager Joe Hloucha

This bachelor's thesis deals with the personal library of the Czech voyager, collector and writer Joe Hloucha. The aim is to find out information about the library and describe localized fragment of Hloucha's library. The introduction presents the key terms of the thesis. Second part discusses biography of Joe Hloucha including his collecting activities. The third chapter deals with Hloucha's writing career. The fourth chapter describes the process of searching for books from his personal library. The fifth chapter is devoted to description of founded copies from his personal library. In conclusion the thesis summarizes obtained findings and sumps up the current state of the books from Hloucha's property.
Methods of processing book collection of Historical cabinet, Faculty of arts Charles University

Historical cabinet is one of the sub-libraries of the Faculty of arts of Charles University in Prague. It was founded in 1882 as a library for historical seminar. At present it is determined on the information needs of students and teachers of history. This thesis focuses on methods of processing book collections of the library, especially the acquisition, cataloging and organizing the library collection. The main contribution of this thesis lies in the characteristics of problem points that arise precisely in connection with the processing of the fund.
Antonín Koniáš: life and work

Antonín Koniáš life and work This thesis is showing Antonín Koniáš as one of the personalities of Czech baroq recatholization process. It introduces Koniáš from three different angles of view: as a personality, as an author of indexes of banned literature and as a mythical figure. Koniáš's perception and opinions about books is accentuated in the thesis as well as Koniáš's impact on book culture on Czech territory. Koniáš is depicted as a missionary, preacher and writer. Based on Koniáš's Indexes and a study of expert literature, the thesis highlights his views and opinions. The thesis also compares two editions of Indexes and indicates the differences between them. The thesis also summarizes a knowledge about myths concerning Koniáš, shortly introduces his first biographers and tries to estimate the number of books which Koniáš burned during his missions.
