Artistic films produced by the pharmaceutical company Sandoz
Petříková, Lea ; BENDOVÁ, Helena (advisor) ; Dytrtová, Kateřina (referee)
The aim of this Master’s thesis is to analyse formal and thematic layers of the artistic films produced by the pharmaceutic company Sandoz and to put them in the relation to the specific history of the company. Sandoz laboratories produced mainly in the 60’s and 70’s several artistic films (e.g. La Femme 100 Têtes which was the adaptation of Max Ernst’s collages or Images du monde visionnaire with the presence of artist Henri Michaux). The thesis explores some of the films and, at the same time, describes the production background and cinematographic context in the relation to the history of Sandoz laboratories.
Leonora Carrington and Her Moving Images
Petříková, Lea ; POSPISZYL, Tomáš (advisor) ; Erhart, Gustav (referee)
This Bachelor's thesis brings a broaden, interdisciplinary view on the work of Leonora Carrington, enriched by the till-now marginalized perspectives of perception on the wide range of her artwork. Carrington is introduced not just as a painter and writer, but, primarily, as a versatile artist transcending categories of means of expression. On the basis of the example of migrating symbolism, the artist's work is examined in the context of the movement between medial forms; the relation of text and image is explored in particular paintings. Furthermore the paper describes an overlap of Carrington's work to audiovisual field, reflecting the absence of freelance film creation in her portfolio and analysing the connection of Carrington's art and Alejandro Jodorowsky's films. Finally the paper discusses contemporary intermedial tributes to Carrington by Lucy Skaer and Madonna.
