Genesis of the Vejprnice coal deposit in the Pilsen Basin
Salva, Otto ; Opluštil, Stanislav (advisor) ; Pešek, Jiří (referee)
High concentrations of surface and underground mine boreholes together with mining maps and documentation of several hundreds of coal seam sections measured and sampled in mine galleries of the Vejprnice coal deposit in the eastern part of the Pilsen Basin were analysed to reconstruct the depositional environment of the Lower Radnice seam in the Radnice Member and the Main Nýřany seam in the Nýřany Member. Data from borehole profiles were used for construction of contour maps of sandstone and breccia thickness and their percentage in intervals from the base of the Radnice Member (the beginning of Carboniferous sedimentation) to the base of the Lower Radnice seam and in intervals between coal seams and their benches. Maps of thickness between the Proterozoic basement and coal seams were used to construct presedimentary paleotopography, which was gradually filled with coal- bearing sediments. Coal seam sections from mining galleries were used for the construction of maps of the thickness, ash content, calorific value, volatile matter content, sulphur content and water content of the Lower Radnice and Main Nýřany coal seams. Contour maps and correlation cross-sections allowed reconstruction of a three-dimensional presedimentary paleotopography model. This model shows that the sedimentation of the...
Stubborn Marys: Life Stories of Women of the "Science Enchanted Generation"
Římanová, Jana ; Pešek, Jiří (advisor) ; Lenderová, Milena (referee) ; Vaněk, Miroslav (referee)
Dissertation abstract Stubborn Marie: life stories of the women of the "generation enchanted by science" Jana Římanová, 2023 The dissertation examines the life stories of important Czech scientists who completed their university studies mostly in the 1960s. The main part of the research is the analysis of ten biographical interviews conducted in accordance with the methodology of oral history. The central goal of the research was to answer the question of which key moments and preconditions led these women to successfully establish themselves in the male-dominated academic environment. The research examines the circumstances of origin, life strategies and turning points that influenced the careers of these important personalities of Czech science. The interviews provide an intimate insight into the lives of these women and thus take into account the personal lines of their stories, which have undoubtedly had a significant impact on their careers, but are often omitted in usually publicly published scientific biographies. The conclusions of the research include the following thesis: The support of the family and mentors on the way to higher education was essential for the successful scientific career of these women. The role of the supervisor of the dissertation and whether he helped the women to get their...
Verbal fluency in patients with Alzheimer's disease
Pešek, Jiří ; Nikolai, Tomáš (advisor) ; Dlouhá, Jana (referee)
This bachelor thesis focuses on semantic verbal fluency (SVF) in patients with dementia due to Alzheimer's disease (AD) and mild cognitive impairment (MCI). Theoretical section consists of AD, MCI, and SVF description. Novel approaches of qualitative analysis are also explored, primarily vector analysis. The aim of this thesis is to research the potential of vector analysis in the SVF task. The vector system was tested on a sample of patients with MCI diagnosis and neurologically and psychiatrically healthy controls (HC). The MCI group was further divided into patients who were positive for presence of beta amyloids (AN) and patients who did not have positive beta amyloid levels (nonAN). The vegetable and animal category of the SVF task was used. The study focused on traditional qualitative indexes and total word count as its experimental variables. The vector system was better at identifying differences between the AN and HC group in the vegetable category. The same results were obtained for the group analysis of nonAN and HC groups, but between these groups there was not a significant difference in the mean word count. There were no significant differences between the experimental groups in any of the experimental variables in either category. Key words: Alzheimer's disease; Mild cognitive...
Analysis and comparison of French and German poster propaganda in the first world war
Beer, Kamil ; Pešek, Jiří (advisor) ; Alt, Jaroslav (referee) ; Vlnas, Vít (referee)
English abstract The dissertation analyzes French and German poster propaganda as it was used in and shortly after the First World War. It observes the visual motives, their cultural categories and the displayed themes. By examining 500 French and 500 German posters, the goal of the work is to create a detailed analysis of their contents, usage and argumentation, with which it wants to achieve closer understanding of the contemporary propaganda used by Germany and France. The mentioned motives, categories and themes are then compared between the two nations. Through this comparison, the work strives to find out the unique (or similar) message and language of the propaganda used by each country. Keywords: First world war, propaganda, posters, France, Germany, comparation, analysis
History of TJ Sokol Zdíkov
PEŠEK, Jiří
In its introduction, the bachelor's thesis focuses on the history of the village of Zdíkov from the first written sources to the present. It is followed by a brief description of the history of movement culture and sports, a description of the contemporary socio-political situation in the Czech lands and the related establishment of the Sokol association. Furthermore, the history of Sokol from its inception to the present is dealt with. The last chapter is concerned with the origin of the Sokol Zdíkov gym unit and its development up to the present. Given the fact that the main part of the work was created during the "coronavirus" restrictions, its basis is not based on archival materials, but on interviews with the mayor of the Czech Sokol Community, leading Czech historians, contemporary witnesses of Zdíkov as well as contemporary sports officials and literary sources.
Charcoal layers in the Main Coal of central part of the Most Basin - a potential indicator of climate changes in early Miocene?
Šulc, Jan ; Opluštil, Stanislav (advisor) ; Pešek, Jiří (referee)
This thesis is summing up the exploration of fusite layers in the middle coal bench of the main coal seam in the Most Basin, studied with support Severočeské doly a. s. in the Bílina opencast mine. These layers are interpreted as a result of wild fires of wetland vegetation and represent charcoal horizons. Several methods have been used for research of these layers. These include four lithological profiles throughout the middle coal bench in different places of Bílina opencast mine, usage of non-core drilling data (speed and force of auger) and comparation of these data with the profiles, and finally, the maceral analysis of the part of the middle bench between two flooding horizons marked by carbonaceous clay partings. Observations indicate that the charcoal layers are hardly recognisable because of their small thickness (few centimetres maximum) and lenticular nature (their lateral continuity usually does not exceed several tens of meters). The coreless drilling according to its sensitivity shows the potential of its usage for identification of fusite layers, although comparison with nearby field section is recommended. Maceral analysis shows that huminite is in favour against liptinite and inertinite. It is clear from the data, that the fusite layers were created as a result of burning...
Preserved monastery gardens in Lesser Town of Prague
Pulcová, Veronika ; Altová, Blanka (advisor) ; Pešek, Jiří (referee)
The subject of this thesis is a description of the current state and a retrospective view of the history of the preserved monastery gardens in the context of the urban development of the Lesser Town. Specifically, these are the gardens that have survived at the Grand Priory of the Knights of Malta at the Church of Our Lady under the Chain, the garden of the Oblate Augustinians at the Church of St. Thomas, the garden of the Dominicans (formerly Magdalenites) at the former Church of St. Mary Magdalene, the garden of the Barefoot Carmelites at the Church of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, the Theatines (Cajetans) at the Church of Our Lady of Consolation, the Jesuit garden at the Church of St. Nicholas, the garden of the Convent of the English Maidens at the Church of St. Joseph (Vojanovy sady) and the garden of the Sisters of Mercy of St. Borromeo under Petrin.
