The motives of writing and signing in the plays of Václav Havel
Toyoshima, Minami ; Pšenička, Martin (advisor) ; Etlík, Jaroslav (referee)
(in English): Václav Havel's plays often contain motifs of main characters' struggle to write or sign documents. These motifs are characterised by the fact that the characters, faced with an overload of repeated cycle of speeches that lack the content of communication, seek helplessly and in vain to find authentic language in written form. It is also worth to note that the characters who struggle to write or sign documents have autobiographical elements: Eduard Huml in The Increased Difficulty of Concentration, Vaňek in Audience and Leopold Kopřiva in Largo desolato are confronted with a situation in which they struggle to write and sign or, conversely, refuse both. These motifs seem to come from Havel's own experience. In this thesis, the author will analyse the motifs of the struggle to write or sign documents in the three plays. The aim of the analysis is not only to clarify what aspects of the activity of writing and signing serve the poetics of the plays, but also to show the connections between the motifs in the plays and the author's life experiences behind the creation of the plays.

Jeffrey Hatcher: Possibilities of Dramatization and Adaptation
Zamazalová, Kateřina ; Christov, Petr (advisor) ; Pšenička, Martin (referee)
Despite the fame Ohio native Jeffrey Hatcher has gained on the American continent, he is fairly unknown to the Czech audience. Out of his extensive work only three texts found their way to the Czech domestic stages. Including: A Picasso, Compleat Female Stage Beauty and Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde. It can be noted that all the works mentioned above are adaptations in a certain sense of the word. However, it is necessary to admit that the dramas A Picasso and Compleat Female Stage Beauty are only loosely inspired by historical events that served the author's own artistic purposes. Nevertheless, Hatcher's Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde can be considered a real adaptation. The fact that this text is connected to the work of another author, in this case a novella by Robert Louis Stevenson, is not unusual within the work of the discussed playwright. Adaptations (or dramatizations) play a fundamental role in it. For this reason, in my diploma thesis I intend to reflect on the way in which the playwright approaches the text of the original and how he transforms it. I plan to focus more closely on the following texts: A Confederacy of Dunces (based on a novel of a same name by John Kennedy Toole), Compleat Female Stage Beauty (the author's own text which he adapted for a movie screen), Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde (based on the...

Sláva Daubnerová's Performances
Kačurová, Klára ; Pšenička, Martin (advisor) ; Polochová, Markéta (referee)
The bachelor thesis deals with the work of the artist Slávy Daubnerová, who has a wide field of activity, but in this text I am dealing with her performances. I examine her work in the context of Slovak feminist theatre, as well as its development. At the same time, the thesis attempts to define her work as such. The attempt at inclusion manifests itself through work with theoretical texts, primarily Erika Fischer-Lichte's Aesthetics of Performativity, in which I seek to support and isolate the theatrical work in question. I place Daubnerová in the context of post-dramatic directing, where I take help from Lehmann. I map the field of play, the signs and elements used, and concretise the spectator's function in the performances. Subsequently, the thesis includes chapters that discuss the individual performances in more detail. Specifically, Cells, Hamletmachine, M.H.L., and the final work: Masterpiece. These sections are not concerned with an explanation of the storyline; I am primarily concerned with highlighting the use of particular theatrical elements, and their field of action, based on the Fischer-Lichte's theory that underpins the thesis. Key words: Performance, Sláva Daubnerová, performer, Slovak feminist directing, 21st centrury theatre, postdramatic theatre.
The Woman in Black: Analysis of Horror Genre and Aspects Causing the Tension in Different Artistic Medias (Theatre, Cinematography)
Holečková, Veronika ; Pšenička, Martin (advisor) ; Topolová, Barbara (referee)
Bachelor's thesis focuses on forms, demonstrations and aspects of horror genre in chosen artistic medias which are literature, theatre and film. As a method for investigation of diverse aspects and demonstrations of this genre was chosen a form of analysis of concrete art works that represent particular medias. The base of this thesis is a work of literature by writer Susan Hill The Woman in Black (1983), which inspired the pieces of art representing other two artistic medias: a theatre performance (2017) of the same name directed by Adam Doležal in the City Theatre in Kladno based on a theatre adaptation (1987) by Stephen Mallatratt and a movie adaptation (2012) of the same name directed by James Watkins based on a script (2012) by Jane Goldman. These analyses will be followed by comparison of their results, where the conclusion will try to offer the reader comparison and insight into the functioning of horror genre aspects in the chosen artistic medias. Key words Horror genre, The Woman in Black, Susan Hill, Adam Doležal, Stephen Mallatratt, literature, theatre, analysis, tension, horror
