Deep Learning a Soucially Constructed Technology
Libovický, Jindřich ; Orhan, Mehmet A. (advisor) ; Lütke Notarp, Ulrike (referee)
The presented thesis focuses on deep learning and artificial intelligence as a socially constructed technology. Unlike the traditional view which explains the emergence of the technology via the inner state of technological reality, I try to follow Bijker's theoretical framework of social construction of technology and explain the development via interests of relevant social groups (general public, technology fans, IT specialists and AI researchers) and values they attribute to the technology. For each of the groups I selected several English-language online media and analyzed their content between years 2012 and 2016. The analysis showed a shift from scientific to more technological topics in articles targeted on AI researchers and broad public. In these articles, deep learning is presented as a breakthrough technology. Articles targeted on technology fans cover the news about artificial intelligence in details, but they do not attribute any special status to the technology. Similarly to IT professionals, they consider deep learning to be a technology as any other.
Role of influencers on Instagram in life of teenagers
Pichlerová, Klára ; Zezulková, Markéta (advisor) ; Orhan, Mehmet A. (referee)
The main topic of the diploma thesis is the role of modern opinion leaders on social networks, in this work specifically on Instagram, in the life of teenagers. The objective of the theoretical part of the thesis is to characterize influencers and to put them in the historical context of opinion leadership. Since the thesis deals with influencers on social networks, it also explains the historical context of the establishment of the Internet and the Web 2.0, thanks to which these platforms could originate. The last chapter of the theoretical part is devoted to the characteristics of the present generation of adolescents and their relation to social networks. The practical part analyzes the results of the quantitative measurement. The research was distributed among students from one secondary grammar school in Prague using an internet link. The questionnaire was consisted of five parts, each focusing on a different topic. At the end of the thesis there is a discussion of the results in the context of the theoretical framework. Based on the research, it was found that teenagers spend about 30 minutes per day on Instagram and mostly before bedtime. They consider it as a social network with a negative impact, especially on the quality of sleep and cyberbullying. Influencers on Instagram inspired them...
Means of direct content monetization for creators of written content in Czech Republic
Romaňák, Adam ; Orhan, Mehmet A. (advisor) ; Lütke Notarp, Ulrike (referee)
This study examines how independent writers in Czechia operate at the intersection of creative processes and management of their writing ventures. With a leading set of research questions, this paper delves into the array of contemporary methods and tools used for monetization, considers their influence on content creation, explores the relation to underlying motivations of writers and investigates the current intermediary landscape in the field. As a first academic probe into the topic in the country, the research introduces key concepts and then takes the inductive approach of a qualitative study conducting 7 in-depth interviews with local independent creators and employing grounded theory for the data analysis. The themes emerging from the research of this population sample suggest that local independent writers exhibit a high degree of resourcefulness in their monetization strategies as they combat inherent uncertainties of their vocation. They are also mainly driven by intrinsic motivations in their creation, and while they enjoy a great deal of creative freedom thanks to their independent status attained by often becoming self-publishers, the findings show that the traditional intermediaries such as publishing houses remain highly relevant in the field.
