Laboratory Work on Plant Physiology and Anatomy and its Use at Primary School
Vágnerová, Kateřina ; Teodoridis, Vasilis (advisor) ; Odcházelová, Tereza (referee)
The presented master thesis is focused on practical teaching of the plant anatomy, morphology ad physiology at primary schools in the Czech Republic. The theoretical part contains a summary of the basic knowledge about plant morphology anatomy and physiology including integration of the practical teaching of natural science in Framework Education Programme and its extension into the School Education Programme. This part includes also detail theoretical background of teaching methods, which are suitable for laboratory work and didactic games. The second, practical part contains a detail description of the seven author's laboratory works and seven didactic games dealing with different topics from the plant anatomy, morphology and physiology, their practical evaluation on pupils of two primary schools and one secondary school including following detailed analysis of the realized questionnaire of these didactic materials. According to the obtained research data, it is obvious that the using of practical teaching form is more attractive for the pupils than conventional teaching methods at primary school.
Analysis of the Use of Multimedia in Science Education
Odcházelová, Tereza ; Teodoridis, Vasilis (advisor) ; Vaníček, Jiří (referee) ; Kubiatko, Milan (referee)
Digital literacy is one of key competencies for lifelong learning. Although implementing multimedia (i.e. ICT) into the educational process has a global perspective, the curricular documents for compulsory school attendance in the Czech Republic (Rámcový vzdělávací program), Slovak Republic (Štátny vzdelávací program) and Germany (Bildungsstandards) do not emphasize this need. A review of the above mentioned documents indicated, that the general need to develop digital literacy of pupils across all school subjects is not formulated by these documents. Therefore, the personal opinions and beliefs of the teachers, their enthusiasm to use ICT, their level of computer literacy, school facilities and the approach of pupils to ICT, play the most important role with regard to the implementation of multimedia in the educational process. Accordingly, the combined research conducted by questionnaires and structured interviews, is aimed towards beliefs, opinions and experiences of pre-service and in-service teachers of biology and primary school pupils from the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Germany. The research has involved 422 Czech, 205 Slovak and 136 German in-service biology teachers and 222 Czech, 100 Slovak and 84 German pre-service teachers. The questionnaires were also addressed to 442 Czech pupils...
Plant Alkaloids - Integration in the Curriculum of Thematic Area "Plant Biology" for Grammar School
Větrovská, Eva ; Teodoridis, Vasilis (advisor) ; Odcházelová, Tereza (referee)
The presented master thesis is focused on an integration of plant alkaloids' curriculum into education process at eight-year grammar schools or their equivalent at primary and secondary schools. The aims of the thesis are to provide a basic data about plant alkaloids, to specify an integration of the plant alkaloids into the curricular documents and to select specific and suitable methods for teaching of the alkaloid topic at schools. These teaching methods were practically verified at the Karel Čapek's Grammar School at Dobříš by using author's proposals of the school lesson, the project teaching and laboratory exercises. In the terms of benefits for students, it has been verified that the teaching of plant alkaloids using the teaching project and the laboratory exercises, can be performed more efficiently than those during an "ordinary" school lesson. Key words: plant alkaloids, teaching methods, teaching lesson, project method, laboratory exercise, biology, chemistry
Vertebrate Taxidermy
Mazalová, Jana ; Řezníček, Jan (advisor) ; Odcházelová, Tereza (referee)
TITLE: Manufacturing taxidermy mounts and their use as teaching aids AUTHOR: Jana Mazalová DEPARTMENT: Department of Biology and Environmental Studies SUPERVISOR: RNDr. Jan Řezníček PhD. ABSTRAKT: The main subject of this thesis is focused on preparation of taxidermal mounts with use of mammal bones and skins and their use as teaching aids. The target group are school children both of elementary and secondary schools. The thesis describes methods of bone preservation and cleaning, skin tanning and preparation of taxidermal mounts. I deal in it also with preparation of large vertebrates' skulls and preparation of taxidermal mounts. The procedures are described in details and the following chapters include photos of dissections made by me. Preparation of 4 bird and 6 mammal species is described. For each description, search of recent literature and PowerPoint presentation is included. KEYWORDS: preparation, taxidermal mounts, skin, vertebrates' skulls
Utilization of QR Codes in the Field of Biology and Education
Kršková, Adéla ; Novotný, Petr (advisor) ; Odcházelová, Tereza (referee)
The thesis investigates the possibility of using QR codes in education and in the field activities in the Czech Republic. The second chapter includes an overview of the history of QR codes based on the findings collected from the available sources together with an explanation of technical parameters, introduction of QR code types and possible content which they can carry, and subsequently, there is a practical example of QR code generation and means of its scanning. The third chapter focuses on practical utilization of QR codes, while mentioning the discovered examples of their use in non-educational fields, including the assessment of their meaningfulness, after which the thesis deals with the use of QR codes in education and their educational usefulness with effort to point out the individualization of educational process and means of possible equalization of education for handicapped students. There is an analysis of already tested practical usage of QR codes with comparison of their actual functionality and mere motivating function. In chapter four the QR codes are critically evaluated with regards to their utilization in biology classes. Key words: QR code, education, biology, functionality.
Zoological Preparation Techniques in School Practice
Odcházelová, Tereza ; Mourek, Jan (referee) ; Šíma, Petr (referee)
This thesis consists of description of chosen methods of permanent macroscopic zoological preparations. I verified successfully all the methods in practice and in case of methodological difficulties I optimized them for use in the school environment. In this work I answered the questions that could come up throughout the preparation process, for example: how to preserve the animal correctly; where to acquire the animal legally; what is the best way to maintain the animal's natural colour; what materials to use for the preparation and so on. According to current approaches I created not only a text based version of the manual of all verified preparation methods, but also an online version in form of a web site. To clarify the methods I included video sequences, photographs and schemes. With this e- learning course a teacher will be able to extend the school collection with his own preparations and also will be able to recognize what significant characteristics to point out. As a part of my work I have done a questionnaire focused on using various types of equipment in biology lectures. I have asked primary school teachers and high school teachers from all regions in the Czech Republic. This questionnaire was sent online and 322 out of 1636 people responded. The answers tell us that teachers...
