Changes in Jablonec Glass and Jewellery Export in the first half of the 20th Century PhDr. Petr Nový Abstract In the first half of the 20th century, due to political upheavals, dependence on foreign markets and the nature of the assortment, Jablonec goods (jewellery made of glass, metal or plastic and small glass products) went through the most dynamic phase in its history. The dissertation is divided into two main parts. The first deals with general and specific questions connected with the export of Jablonec goods in a defined period. It traces both the general historical development of the field and the interaction between production and export, including the types of actors' reactions to turning points. It also contains contemporaneous testimonies of exporters who, in the defined period, were engaged in foreign trade with Jablonec goods. The second part of the dissertation is devoted to exporters as a specific group of entrepreneurs with a fundamental influence on the development of the entire field. It brings their collective biography, which also includes a typology. Attention is paid not only to the...

The thesis studies the political and journalistic history of Great Britain in the 1930s. The main topic of the thesis is the mapping and subsequent analysis of the British periodical press in the mentioned period. It primarily deals with the so-called media appeasement of the British press in relation to the established foreign policy of Great Britain, the concessions of its leading representatives to Benito Mussoliniʼs fascist Italy, and subsequently to Adolf Hitlerʼs Nazi Germany. Thesis examines differences in the approach of individual periodicals to the presentation of specific foreign-political topics that resonated in the period before the outbreak of the Second World War. The study defines which periodicals tended to government policy and analyses how they did so. It also examines whether British newspapers were inclined towards the mentioned extremist regimes. Special attention is given to British newspaper market and the ties of newspaper houses and owners to the political scene of Great Britain.
Margaret Thatcher's Government Policy Regarding Central Europe
Šmigol, Ondřej ; Horčička, Václav (advisor) ; Novotný, Lukáš (referee) ; Váška, Jan (referee)
The thesis analyses British foreign policy regarding Central Europe during Margaret Thatcher's government and her personal relationship with Central European countries. It takes account of three case studies. The first one analyses the British policy regarding nominally socialist countries in the last decade of communism. It investigates Margaret Thatcher's relationship with the first independent trade union in Soviet sphere, Polish Solidarity. The second study focuses on British policy regarding the crumbling communist regimes. It is an analysis of the British stance during the German reunification negotiations. The last study focuses on Thatcherite reforms as an inspiration for the post-communist countries. It examines Czech economic transformation and its inspiration in Thatcherism. The goal is to show, that Thatcher's policy was much more complicated than it is generally assumed. In the case of Poland, she was a key person in securing Solidarity's negotiation with the government; at the same time, she was afraid of weakening the government, as she regarded it as weak link in Soviet power. In the case of Germany, she went against her own Foreign Office, when she was against strong Germany and did not want to weaken Gorbachev. In Czechia she was a "shining example", however the translation of...

Novotný, Lukáš ; Pour, Milan (advisor) ; Kučerová, Marta (referee)
Charles University Faculty of Pharmacy in Hradec Králové Department of Inorganic and Organic Chemistry University of Limoges Faculty of Pharmacy Laboratory of Natural Substances Chemistry Consultants: prof. RNDr. Milan Pour, Ph.D., Dr. Christelle Pouget Student: Lukáš Novotný Title of Thesis: Synthesis and characterisation of flavonoids as potential anticancer agents With more than 3 million new cases and 1.7 million deaths each year, cancer represents the second most important cause of morbidity in Europe. Search for new anticancer agents is one of the most important ways to improve treatment and management of cancer. At present, around 50 % of drugs against cancer are natural compounds or have a natural origin. Flavonoids, 2- phenyl-1,4-benzopyrones derivatives, are known for their antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, vasculoprotective, antimicrobial and anticancer properties. This project focuses on flavonoids with open C ring, named chalcones. The synthesis of two original molecules is described: one bichalcone and a combined chalcone-polyamine, prepared for the purpose of screening antiproliferative effect on cancer cell lines. The chalcone derivatives were made using Claisen- Schmidt condensation and Suzuki reaction. Different synthetic approaches are discussed. Presently, the two products are...
Dissolution of the Law Faculty of the Masaryk University in Brno
Novotný, Lukáš ; Míšková, Alena (advisor) ; Hnilica, Jiří (referee)
This diploma thesis explores the dissolution of the Law Faculty of the Masaryk University in Brno, which took place after the 1949/1950 academic year. The cancellation of the faculty was finalized by the new Higher Education Act no. 58/1950 Coll., which was passed on May 18, 1950. The act also ruined all traditional academic freedoms in the Czechoslovakia. The Communists claimed that there is no need to have so many lawyers in the new socialistic country. Therefore the legal studies remained only in Prague and Bratislava. Several faculty members were dismissed from the Law Faculty of the Masaryk University right after the overturn in 1948 due to their activity during the previous regime. Those who remained could stay at the university only for two more years. However, after the cancellation of the faculty even those professors were not allowed to pursue their life mission. A majority of them ended up working in the Academy of Sciences. The Law Faculty of the Masaryk University remained cancelled for 19 years.
The Social Democratic Party of Germany 1998 - 2013: From Triumph to Crisis?
Schmiedová, Petra ; Kunštát, Miroslav (advisor) ; Novotný, Lukáš (referee)
This bachelor thesis analyses the federal election result of the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) in 2009, in which the party scored its lowest post-war result. The author tries to describe the factors which caused this electoral disaster. From its establishment the SPD went through a lot of changes, as did the whole society. From a party of workers, who fought for their extended rights, the SPD became a party defending three fundamental values - freedom, justice and solidarity - for everyone. However, in the 1980s the party was forced to abandon the Keynesian economic model, to which she owed her success in the field of economics. It was necessary for the party to adapt to new neoliberal economic theories. After 16 years in opposition the SPD achieved a triumph in federal elections in 1998, when Gerhard Schröder became the new chancellor. Schröder was known as a supporter of the so-called Third Way. Under his leadership 1998 - 2005 the SPD was directed towards the political middle ground in an attempt to reach as many votes as possible. However, new political direction led to a crisis in the party and to a cleaving of the party left. Since 2005 the party has been dealing with several strategic problems, to which no answers have yet been found. This manifests in decreasing polling...
Party Euroscepticism in the Federal Republic of Germany on the background of the Eurozone crisis.
Nikšová, Petra ; Novotný, Lukáš (advisor) ; Kunštát, Miroslav (referee)
The Euroscepticism is a very popular issue now. Its popularity has risen because of inability of European states to solve the crisis since the start of the Eurozone crisis. This thesis is based on analysis of party program documents and other statements. It attempts to capture the increase in Euroscepticism among German political parties. The public opinion is taking into account as well. Germany has become one of the main actors in the search for ways out of the crisis. This role associated with some financial burden has led to series of discussion and to the growth of skepticism among the political parties. The European Stability Mechanism was the one of the most discussed topics. The crisis provoked uncertainty and skepticism among the German public as well. This scepticism was largely influenced by the actual situation in the Eurozone. In direct response to the crisis a new political movement was created. It was called the Alternative for Germany. The Alternative for Germany rejected remaining in the Eurozone. It reached some success in provincial elections in 2014. There were more reasons for its success which not just correspondent with its eurosceptic agenda. The thesis identifies these reasons as well. Despite this situation, Germany remains a pro-European state.
