A Dialogue of Faith and Non-faith in a Chosen Work of Josef L. Horamadka and Tomas Halik
Skřivanová, Tereza ; Noble, Ivana (advisor) ; Moree, Pieter (referee)
A dialogue of faith and non-faith is a main theme of my thesis as it is discussed in a chosen work of Josef L. Horamadka and Tomas Halik. First part of the thesis is focused dialogue between Christianity and atheism, as it was present in communist society based on works of Josef L. Hromadka, emphasizing importance of Christianity for secularized society and vice versa. Starting point for opening of discussion for J. L. Hromadka is a situation a modern man finds himself to be in. Second part of the thesis is dealing with a topic of faith and non faith as discussed by Tomas Halik who points out this dialogue as crucial one for postmodern society. He underlines mutual understanding of differences of the others and engagement with non believers in solidarity of pilgrims. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)
The Relation between Man and God in the Tehology of K. Rahner, J. Moltmann and V. Lossky
Neradová, Hana ; Noble, Ivana (advisor) ; Bauerová, Kateřina (referee)
My work considers the relationship between human beings and God according to three theologians from different Christian traditions: Orthodox theologian V. Losský, Catholic theologian K. Rahner, and Protestant theologian J. Moltmann. In the beginning, I introduce the historical setting of their theology, and then I continue with chapters focused on the lives, scholarly work, and interpretation of the God- man relationship of these three theologians. The connecting thread through my thesis is the shared belief among these theologians that, despite the hard experience of living through World Ward II., they all insist on the divine origin of humankind which God does not take away even when people sin. Rahner's interpretation uncovers that people have an "inner sense" for transcendence - "Vorgriff", which allows him to overcome the limits of his world and to know God. And then Losský nad Moltmann reveal that the aim of human life is to be like God and to share his life and beauty. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)
The Rediscovery of Symbol in Louis-Marie Chauvet
Bauerová, Kateřina ; Noble, Ivana (advisor) ; Hošek, Pavel (referee) ; Hušek, Vít (referee)
The main aim of my dissertation is to introduce, analyse, and critically evaluate the notion of symbol of a contemporary French sacramental theologian Louis-Marie Chauvet. He has significantly influenced the Western, especially Roman Catholic scene, but he is almost unknown in the Czech milieu. Chauvet's rehabilitation of a symbolic view of reality brings a possibility to speak about God's presence in a non- ideological way. He also brings a positive evaluation of body and corporality back into theology. In the first part of my work I map out the resources from which Chauvet draws in his notion of symbol. In particular I deal with Heidegger's early philosophy but also with Chauvet's use of psychoanalysis and his critical evaluation of older Thomist sacramental theology. The second part of my work is devoted to Chauvet's own notion of symbol. On the basis of his central works I analyse three topics linked with his approach to symbol: being, language and corporality. In the last part I critically appraise Chauvet's notion especially with respect to his use of Lacan's psychoanalytical theory. For some open questions that come out of this I look for alternatives in three French contemporary female authors. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)
The Relationship Between the Physical and Spiritual Life in Olivier Clément's theological anthropology
Mintálová, Pavlína ; Noble, Ivana (advisor) ; Jandejsek, Petr (referee)
My essay explores aspects of Olivier Cléments theological anthropology; in particular the relationship between physical and spiritual life. It is primarily concerned with constitutional aspects in Clements anthropology, and shows how Berdajev's, Solovjov's, Lossky's and Evokimov's thinking influences, and manifests inself in Clements's work. The essay illustrates how the relationship between physical and spiritual life relates to a transfiguration transformation of the body and of creation, and explores how and why Clement understands the body as a "liturgical body". Alexander Schmemann's Ecclesiology: Witnessing the Crisis within the Orthodox Church.
Panaitescu, Cristian ; Noble, Ivana (advisor) ; Kočandrle Bauer, Kateřina (referee) ; van Rossum, Joost (referee)
The thesis of Cristian Panaitescu analyses Alexander Schmemann's ecclesiology in relation to the crisis within the Orthodox Church. It follows the decisive turning points Schmemann's generation of Orthodox Theologians living in emigration had to face: The Bolshevik revolution in Russia and its consequences; being strangers in different cultures; moving to the situation where Church no longer had a firm place in society and embedded structures of life; seeking for theological foundations that would be corresponding to the liturgical and spiritual experience the Orthodox theologians found formative. Thus it shows the crisis as a process with theological, cultural, social and political reasons and implications. Panaitescu follows how Alexander Schmemann witnessed this crisis and dealt with it in his theology, namely within his liturgical and sacramental theology. Given that the crisis within the Orthodox Church has been a multi-layered reality, the thesis refers its various dimensions as it follows the evolution of Russian émigré theology as it has dealt with being previously dominated by Western neo-scholasticism the disruption between the liturgical life of the Orthodox Church and Orthodox theology, and eventually regarding the relationship between the Orthodox Church and the world. Christology from below? A dispute over Jacques Dupuis, Roger Haight and Jon Sobrino
Jandejsek, Petr ; Noble, Ivana (advisor) ; Noble, Timothy (referee) ; Červenková, Denisa (referee)
The dissertation of Petr Jandejsek analyzes Christologies of the three contemporary Jesuit theologians: Jacques Dupuis, Roger Haight and Jon Sobrino. In terms of method it calls their approaches "from below". Epistemology used by their Christologies proceeds from human, particular, historically- grounded experience toward its revealing source. Given that the three Christologies were subjected to a critique from the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, the dissertation raises questions regarding the innovative features of their Christologies as well as their limits. It is argued that they can complement the so-called "Christologies from above", which proceed "from God", from the divine revelation that has been given to the human beings and requires obedience. In this dissertation "theology from above" is exemplified by the work of Joseph Ratzinger. The dissertation identifies common sources of the Christologies in question. They are found in the Ignatian spirituality, the theology of Karl Rahner and the experiences gained in the missionary work. In conclusion, it is suggested that the three Christologies are legitimate interpretations, however limited, of the pastoral theology of the Second Vatican Council. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)
The World as "The First Sacrament". Concept of the World in the Liturgical Theology of Alexander Schmemann
Macháčková, Ivana ; Noble, Ivana (advisor) ; Hošek, Pavel (referee)
Alexander Schmemann, one of the greatest orthodox theologians of the twentieth century, understands world in his liturgical theology as a gift of God ́s love to man. Man was created as a priest of creation and he should accept creation as a gift and bring it in thanksgiving back to God. But man diverted from God, he lives in a self-centred way and he separated divine and profane. Salvation is seen by Schmemann in Jesus Christ, who renewed relation of man to God, renewed the continuity between the world and himself. The central place in Schmemann ́s liturgical theology has liturgy. The eucharist is described by Schmemann as the entrance of the Church into the joy of her Lord. It has cosmic, all- embracing character and it transforms everything. This liturgy takes place in separation from the world, but for the world. In the offering we bring to God the whole world and it becomes in the liturgy what it always should have been, but was not. The Church is the gift of reconciliation and forgiveness. She represents the whole creation before God. Schmemann strongly emphasises the role of community. He criticises attempts of unity from "below" and he also does not accept the activities of the Church in the social and political sphere. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)
Possibilities and limits of a human knowledge of God and of speech about God in Ludwig Wittgenstein
Kopačková, Lucie ; Noble, Ivana (advisor) ; Kranát, Jan (referee)
This bachelor work analyses possibilities and limits of a human knowledge of God and of speech about God in Ludwig Wittgenstein. Wittgenstein as a key to teological language, is dealing with life and philosophy of Ludwig Wittgenstein. The theme of language is introduced in the perspective of Wittgenstein ́s early and later philosophy. It examines how he developed this theme in his first philosophical work Tractatus Logico Philosophicus and what kind of changes his later work published as Philosophical Investigations brought. The first biographical offers a reading of Wittgenstein ́s life in different periods, which had had the basic influence to his philosophical work. Subhead about his relationship to Christianity and the relogion as such concludes this part. The second part dealing with philosophical work about language is divided into two subheads. First introduces how Wittgenstein worked with the topic of language at the begining of his philosophical work. Then the second is about the move in his whole work and personal attitude which is characteristic for his later work. Short theological ecumenical eccursus concludes the second part and shows in which realms Wittgenstein transceds the limits of philosophy. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)
