Respite Services for People with Autism and Mental Retardation - Availability in Regions

This diploma thesis deals with respite service and issues with providing respite services to parents of children and adults with autism and mental retardation. The opening chapters focus on autistic spectrum disorder in combination with mental retardation and potential challenging behaviour. This work describes therapeutic process for persons with autism and mental retardation and it also describes the issues with providing social service to these persons. This thesis focuses mainly on respite services. The empirical part describes the availability of respite services for families with autistic person and mental retardation in the Czech Republic.
Role of family in particular life phases of the people suffering from spinal muscular atrophy

The thesis deals with the role of a family in particular life phases of a person suffering from the rare disease, spinal muscular atrophy. There are three main parts. The first one defines the term family, namely its system, features and functions, and explores the particularities of a family living with a handicapped member. The second part focuses on the spinal muscular atrophy, primarily on the development objectives of individual life phases of the people suffering from the disease. Thirdly, there is a section aiming at describing the role of the people taking care of the people challenged by spinal muscular atrophy from the early childhood to the middle adulthood. Furthermore, the diploma thesis points out the effort of these people to become independent and live their lives to the fullest with the help of care assistants, partners as well as start their families. For a better comprehension of the situation, there have been made semi-structured interviews with twelve families with a member of various age suffering from spinal muscular atrophy, inquiring not only the challenged persons, but also their parents and siblings.
Implementation of support measures for pupils with specific behavioral disorders in primary schools

The diploma thesis is focused on providing support to pupils with specific behavioral disorders at ordinary primary schools. Its aim is to find out how support is provided to pupils with specific behavioral disorders at ordinary elementary schools, what are the potentialities for providing optimal support to these pupils and suggest possible measures and procedures to improve them. The thesis consists of theoretical and research part. The theoretical part characterizes specific behavioral disorders, education and support for pupils with these disorders. The research part of the thesis focuses on the implementation of support measures for pupils with specific behavioral disorders at selected elementary schools. This problem is solved in two levels. The first plane is qualitative, it is a case study of the school (author's workplace). The basis for the preparation of case report are interviews with school special pedagogues and unstructured observations. The second part is aimed at supporting pupils with specific behavioral disorders on a wider scale. The basis for the data is the questionnaire survey, which was attended by teachers and teacher assistants from other schools. Support education for pupils with mental disabilities in primary schools

This diploma thesis is concerned with the issues of educational support within the integration of pupils with mild mental disabilities in common primary schools. The theoretical part is divided into chapters which deal with the definition of mild mental disability and its classification, the description of pupils with mild mental disabilities in school age, the specific needs within the education of pupils with mild mental disabilities, the issue of integration, the valid legislature concerning these pupils and most importantly with the supporting measures which are provided for these pupils. The aim of the practical part of the thesis was to find out which supporting measures are provided for pupils with mild mental disabilities in common primary schools and how are these measures put into practice. To gather the required information, the method of a semi-structured interview with selected teachers and the staff of school consulting centers has been used. Comparison of the practicing methods of initial reading and writing in relation to the specific learning disorders

In diploma thesis named "Comparison of the practicing methods of initial reading and writing in relation to the specific learning disorders" we are trying to find out if the implementation of one of three methods of teaching to read and write - analytic synthetic method, genetic method or Sfumato eliminates the development of specific learning disabilities - dyslexia, disgraphia and disorthographia. The first part of work looks into theoretical outcomes of each method of teaching to read and write and defines specific learning disabilities. In the second part of work methods of teaching to read and write depending on specific learning disabilities development are compared and evaluated based on results of questionnaires, interviews and observation.
Using of bibliotherapy for older school age children with ADHD

The diploma thesis deals with the issue of bibliotherapy and possibilities of its use in older school age children with ADHD diagnosis. The objective of this thesis is to create, to implement and to evaluate a bibliotherapeutic program for the defined group. The first theoretical chapters defines the concept of bibliotherapy, its types, forms, objectives and the process of compiling the bibliotherapic program. The next chapters describes the ADHD disorder, its etiology, diagnostics, ADHD manifestations and the treatment and education of a child with ADHD. The last theoretical chapter describes the use of bibliotherapy for children with ADHD in our country and abroad. The practical part occupies with layout of a bibliotherapeutic program and its implementation. It is focused on the development of social skills and self-reflection and also on attention training for children with ADHD. The program have been done with a small group of boys with ADHD aged 13 - 15. Structured and unstructured observations and unstructured interview was used as a research method. The results of the research refer to the benefits and risks of bibliotherapeutic work with children with ADHD.
Advisory support in the education of socially disadvantaged pupils

Thesis Counseling support in the education of socially disadvataged pupils deals with education of this target group of pupils, which is still unclear in many situation of. The emphasis is focused on counseling support of these children, that should help their education of non-state non-profit institutions. The aim of thesis is to clarify this issue and highlight the important role of non-profit instituions, genereally there is tend to neglect them. In its theoretical part thesis works with pupil with socially disadvantaged in the context of education and the structure of advisory support in the Czech Republic. The explorative part of thesis is based on case studies of specific non-state, non-profit organizations, namely the generally beneficial company People in need, a registered association Counseling centre for integration and registered association R- Bridges. These organizations are significantly involved in counseling support in the education of the target group of pupils. These studies are based on data collected during six interviews, that were contucted with employees of individual organizations. Data from these interviews are complemented by document analysis. Attitudes of primary school teachers to inclusive education of children with mental disabilities

This diploma thesis deals with the issue of inclusive education of pupils with mental disabilities. The aim of the thesis is to find out what attitudes are occupied by primary school teachers and teachers of basic schools that are practical for the inclusive education of pupils with mental disabilities. The thesis is divided into the theoretical and practical part. The theoretical part is focused on providing basic information about people with mental disabilities, the possibilities of their education and the interpretation of the concepts of integration and inclusion. Further, there is legislation on the education of pupils with special educational needs and a system of counseling services provided in schools and school counseling facilities. The practical part contains information acquired through the method of interview, whose aim is to find out the opinions and attitudes of teachers of basic schools and teachers of elementary schools that are practical for the inclusive education of pupils with mental disabilities.
