Malý čtenář magazine
Křesťanová, Gabriela ; Brožová, Věra (advisor) ; Mocná, Dagmar (referee)
The Malý čtenář (The Little Reader) magazine was published between the years of 1882 and 1941. At that time, this was one of the most significant Czech magazines for children and young people. The magazine altered during its existence. Poetry, fiction, nonfiction articles, games, jokes and puzzles remained its constant theme. The magazine was founded by teachers from Poděbrady. Its original role was to present school teaching through more fun and entertainment. Nonfiction articles played a significant role in the early years of the magazine. A big change for the existence of the magazine meant a transition to J. R. Vilímek publishing in 1888. In the 90s of the 19th century, the magazine became a more serious publication, primarily due to its incorporation of high quality poetry. Among the authors of the poems appears Josef Vaclav Sládek, who is regarded as the founder of Czech poetry for children. In these years, the magazine also aimed to appeal to a new target group of readers: adolescent school boys. At the beginning of the twentieth century, the ratio between poetry and prose in Malý čtenář gradually balanced. A key figure in the magazine, František Serafínský Procházka, took the main role in poetry. Prose came with longer serial stories with elements of realism; more fairy tales also appeared....

Kasalová, Petra ; Mocná, Dagmar (advisor) ; Hrabáková, Jaroslava (referee)
My thesis deals with Jan Neruda and his work from the different point of view than the view in school text books. I pointed out a fact that Neruda was a fearless, rather a rebellious writer in his period, and he had been breaking prudish literary stereotypes at that time. The first chapter presents the 19th century itself and refers to the recent status of a woman but also to some situations which were placed under a taboo by local society. The second chapter is Nerudaˈs biography focused on some life moments linked with his work. The third chapter shows my interpretation of Nerudaˈs programme statement ˈŠkodlivé směryˈ. The next chapter involves extracts of his works, which contains erotic, sexual motives or other taboo themes such as prostitution and infidelity. I put my mind to the tale ˈU tří liliíˈ, which invited and still invites readersˈ and literatesˈ attention, in the last part. Key words Jan Neruda, 19th century, taboo, sex and erotic in literature

Kittnarová, Hana ; Mocná, Dagmar (advisor) ; Peterka, Josef (referee)
The aim of this work is to map, capture and enlighten the contemporary phenomenon of travel and travelogue, and introduce it as a still alive and evolving literary genre. This is illustrated by the analysis of contemporary Czech periodicals, blogs, websites and several literary works of this nature. The work, based on this analysis, creates their genre typology. The results show that there is a retreat of lyrical and poetic type, while the current is a form of narrative and novelistic travelogue, in which a subjective description and personal tone predominates and the position of the author - narrator is strengthened. Contemporary literary production of travelogue genre is very broad and findings of this work describe the current status and trends, which tend to mix and combine genres, incorporating travelogue into fiction and enriching it with new elements through differentiation of ideas and interests of travelers. The educative extent of travelogue in contemporary works is often taken aback, or is thanks to fictionalization appropriately incorporated into the text.

Michalčíková, Lucie ; Mocná, Dagmar (advisor) ; Hrabáková, Jaroslava (referee)
Résumé Our thesis deals with topic a space of a small town in Czech literature. Why the authors of various generations write about a small town, what is changing in a small / provincial town, what remains the same - these are the basic questions to answer. When creating our contribution we have used language and literature publications, dictionaries, anthologies and works of selected authors Jan Neruda, Karel Poláček, Jan Drda, Bohumil Hrabal. We have found that historical factors affect both the choice of subject and method of writing and readers' perception. In difficult periods of life writers and readers return to certainties, even idealized, which childhood time brings. The small town is presented as a space where everything has its own order, there are typical and similar characters (leaders, figurines, individuals). We can discover two faces of a small town society. The atmosphere of a small town in a specific period is made of spoken language, speech and dialogues of characters too. In our work we mentioned films based on stories of our selected authors. This thesis could be beneficial for students of secondary schools or reading audience that finds pleasure in literature with small / provincial town theme.
