Culprits and Victims in Selected Works of Czech and Sudeten German Authors
Štillerová, Jana ; Mocná, Dagmar (advisor) ; Neumann, Lukáš (referee)
My thesis deals with the literary treatment of the question of guilt for the removal of Germans from the Czech lands after World War II. The perspectives of Czech and Sudeten German authors are often very different, but sometimes very similar, although the authors are separated not only by nationality, but also by several decades of their lives since the treatment of the topic and the time that influenced them. Řezáč's, Durych's, Körner's and Mühlberger's rendering of the subject falls in the same epoch, namely the 1950s, while Gudrun Pausewang, who, although she also lived through the displacement and could have written about it right after World War II, waited forty years to write her book. It is possible that she needed to gain some distance from the traumatic experience in order to collect her thoughts and gain some perspective on the events. The deportation is also dealt with by authors who did not personally experience it: Tučková and Bernig. One might expect Czech authors to have the same view of the issue of guilt, but this is not the case. Durych and Bernig are open, both sides speak, they also describe Germans as victims and call for dialogue and reflection. Řezáč is one-sided, tendentious, expedient, only Germans are guilty, never victims. Tučková too, but in the opposite way. Most...
Joseph Roth: Characteristics of the fictional world
Sirotek, Adam ; Kubíček, Tomáš (advisor) ; Mocná, Dagmar (referee)
This thesis analyses Roth's novels of the 1930s as a complex fictional macroworld. It is through fictional characters, the category of space and associated motifs and symbols that the decadent and specifically patriarchal semantics of the Habsburg world are examined. The main point of interest is the conflict between traditional and nationalized patriarchy outlined by Stritecky. The paper analyses the manifestations of the gradual disintegration of the basic value pillars of this patriarchal world, against the background of the dynamic tension between the centre and the periphery of the Habsburg monarchy. These pillars are the army, the bureaucracy, religious faith; the authority of the emperor, father and husband. In the first part (the centre), the degradation of these values is analysed in relation to the figures representing the centre of the empire. In the second and third parts (periphery; behind the curtain), the secondary figures of the representatives of the periphery, or women, come to the fore. Through these characters, the non-vital nature of nationalised patriarchalism is exposed. This work shows, among other things, that the deviation from the traditional, patriarchal order is the real cause of the overall decline. At the same time, the thesis that the space of the periphery is...

Fairytale Drama of J. K. Tyl and J. Drda
Bernasová, Natálie ; Smrčka, Jiří (advisor) ; Mocná, Dagmar (referee)
The thesis focuses on analysis of fairytale drama genre in the work of Josef Kajetán Tyl and Jan Drda. Its goal is to describe common and different approaches of these authors, which are derived on the basis of selected key motives (motive of love, erotic motive, motive of labour and money, folklore motive), fairytale style, character types, the imprint of time, the role of music and some other components. The thesis builds on analysis and comparison of seven original texts - on Tyl's Strakonický dudák (1847), Tvrdohlavá žena (1849), Jiříkovo vidění (1849), Čert na zemi (1850), Lesní panna (1850) and on Drda's Hrátky s čertem (1945) and Dalskabáty (1959). Another aim of this thesis is to confirm or refute the hypothesis that Jan Drda conceived his two fairytale plays in the spirit of the Tyl tradition. Due to the nature of the thesis there are, in addition to professional literature, widely used sources such as theater programs, critics and reviews from the second half of the 20th century. KEYWORDS Josef Kajetán Tyl, Jan Drda, fairytale drama, tradition of Tyl's plays
Reflections of the society of 1930s in drama's by E. Konrád, V. Werner and F. Tetauer
Kaprálková, Kateřina ; Smrčka, Jiří (advisor) ; Mocná, Dagmar (referee)
The aim of this thesis is to analyse a sample of dramas from the 1930's by three "forgotten" authors - Edmond Konrád, Vilém Werner and Frank Tetauer, and consequently to evaluate whether these works meet the requirements for being socially reflective texts of the 1930's. An important aspect of the thesis is a chapter dealing with the literature of the 1930's, especially with socially reflective works. My initial hypothesis presupposes that in the 1930's literature starts to socially engage. The dramas are therefore viewed mainly through the perspective of social engagement. The aim of this thesis is to observe whether the works by Konrád, Werner and Tetauer are socially engaged and if so, then how it is achieved. The chosen method of my research is an analysis of the individual plays from several identical points of view. The analysis uncovered repetitive thematic and motivic elements in the dramas. In the conclusion of the thesis, I establish that the analysed dramas are highly socially engaged. This social engagement may be seen in the reflections of societal issues and in the function of the dramas to embolden the nation to fight together against evil. The authors focus on the idea of a text rather than on the form. Although the dramas by Konrád, Werner and Tetauer were significant and relevant...
Impact of reading on vocabulary, text comprehension and fancy of protagonists on children of pre-school age
Marklová, Tereza ; Laufková, Veronika (advisor) ; Mocná, Dagmar (referee)
This thesis is concerned with the impact of reading on vocabulary, text comprehension and fancy of protagonists on pre-school children aged 3 to 6. The purpose of the research part of the thesis is to find out to which extend reading impacts on vocabulary, text comprehension and fancy of protagonists of pre-school children aged 3 to 6. First hypothesis expects that during the one-month project children who are exposed the most to reading and working with a book are going to make the biggest progress in text comprehension and vocabulary. Other two hypotheses try to prove that older children are going to have better results than the youngest research participants at the beginning and the end of the project. Third hypothesis then adds that the youngest, 3 years old, children are going to improve significantly only in the questions that are repeated and that it is due to memorizing, not comprehension. Last hypothesis claims that children most involved in reading are going to take to new favourite characters. The theoretical part describes the development of a child since childbirth to 6 years, with an accentuation on the period between 3 and 6 years of age and analysis of fairy-tale as both a genre of literature and an instrument of child's development stimulation. The practical part of the thesis is a...
