German nuclear phase-out in 2011 and political motivations of CDU/CSU
Bundová, Klára ; Nigrin, Tomáš (advisor) ; Mlsna, Petr (referee)
This bachelor thesis focuses on the German nuclear phase-out in 2011 and political motivations of CDU/CSU. The main objective of this paper is to confirm or reject the statement that CDU/CSU was politically motivated in order to attempt to prevent large vote losses in the upcoming Landtag elections. Nuclear phase-out was not an entirely new development for Germany; there is a long tradition of a strong opposition to nuclear technology and already during the government of red-green coalition after 1998 the first nuclear phase-out was agreed. Nuclear energy was nevertheless considered to be a convenient bridging technology for CDU/CSU before Germany could fully rely on renewable sources of energy and belonged to the front supporters of nuclear energy. With the inauguration of the new federal government in 2009 formed by CDU/CSU and FDP, an amendment to the atomic law was agreed and the coalition managed to extend the operational lifespan of nuclear power plants. Their attitude to nuclear energy remained unchanged until the Fukushima accident in Japan in March 2011, which provoked a U-turn in their policy and they suddenly decided to support nuclear phase-out. The official explanation of the government seems to be insufficient since in no other country had the Japan nuclear accident such a big impact....

The continuously decreasing amount of mineral resources and its future is becoming an omnipresent topic in the EU. The key is to obtain good terms of resource import. Agreement signed by the Russian president Vladimir Putin and the German chancellor Gerhard Schröder considering the construction of the Nordstream gas pipeline, leading from Russian Wyborg to German Greifswald, shattered the EU's concept of energetic policy meaning the EU energetic security. Even though the energetic concept puts emphasis on diminishing the reliance on Russian gas import into EU, Germany took its own direction. In these times when the demand for gas import is steadily increasing, every country is trying to have good relations with Russia and secure themselves a stable supply of gas. Germany, thanks to its successful long-term cooperation with Russia, is able to avoid a possible future gas crisis that might be caused by the transit countries. The gas pipeline's direct connection to the Russian gas reserves ensured the coverage of Germany's demand but in the time of need (crisis) even help out neighbouring countries inside the EU. Not only is the European energetic concept going through series of changes, but even the Russian side must react to the increasing gas demand. The extensive researches, searching for new gas...

This thesis titled The position of the Federal Constitutional Court to the Outright Monetary Transactions (OMT program) is dealing with the program of direct monetary transactions (OMT) and its compliance with EU primary law. It is the first time in history, when the German constitutional court submitted a question to the Court of Justice of the EU. The program was announced in 2012 as a program of unlimited purchases of government bonds. It has not been applied yet, but its very existence has helped to calm European markets and bond yields of states which are faced with financial problems. Large number of German politicians and economists stepped up against the program and shared the view that the program essentially requires that German taxpayers pay bills for other eurozone countries. It was also emphasized that this program clearly exceeds the mandate of the European Central Bank of maintaining price stability. This work includes logically arranged chapters, which include the creation of the euro zone, Greek debt crisis, subsequent rescue programs and solitude OMT program and judicial proceedings in relation to this program. The final section focuses first on the judgment of the European Court of Justice, which sets out important conditions for the possible application of the program in the...
