DLMS/COSEM protocol security
Tomko, Tomáš ; Mlýnek, Petr (referee) ; Lieskovan, Tomáš (advisor)
The aim of this thesis is to familiarize the reader with the DLMS/COSEM protocol, which is mainly used in the power industry. The thesis introduces the concept of smart grids along with their development and basic legislation. In the following section, all the protocols used in smart energy networks are discussed with most emphasis on the mentioned DLMS/COSEM protocol and its security features and vulnerabilities. Furthermore, the thesis aims to introduce the reader to the security risks in industrial networks and the Cyber Range KYPO platform. It was important to familiarize with the capabilities that this platform offers. The next task of this thesis is to operationalize the KYPO platform in a laboratory environment with a security scenario focused on DLMS/COSEM security. The security scenario that we have managed to create involves the interception of communication and the exploitation of at least two security vulnerabilities of the DLMS/COSEM protocol. All the programs and tools that we have used to achieve the objectives of this thesis have been summarized in more detail in a separate chapter, which is dedicated to the practical part of the thesis. The thesis describes the procedure and the problems that we encountered while completing the thesis assignment. The actual virtual scenario that we prepared runs on a server at the premises of the BUT. On this server is installed Cyber Range platform KYPO in all-in-one configuration. The created security scenario using the DLMS/COSEM protocol contains two users and one attacker located in the same network, as we have defined it. We used a simple text editor to define the network configuration and defined it for the KYPO platform in YAML format, which is used to automate the data in a form that is easy for humans to read. We also used the same YAML format to define playbooks, which serve as the easiest way in Ansible to automate repetitive tasks. We used them to install packages, update existing packages, and prepare the virtual environment to exploit DLMS/COSEM protocol vulnerabilities.
Smart Grid network with PLC for data acquisition
Skrášek, Tomáš ; Mišurec, Jiří (referee) ; Mlýnek, Petr (advisor)
The bachelor’s thesis deals with the design of Smart Grid and selection of communication media. It also describes the characteristics of PLC modems and radio modems. Practical part shows the use of narrowband modems in an environment with real interference and also communication with radio modems.
Real time signal processing
Nepovím, Pavel ; Rášo, Ondřej (referee) ; Mlýnek, Petr (advisor)
The aim of the master’s thesis is to acquaint the reader with Discrete Fourier Transform DFT and its introduction to spectral analysis descrete time signals. Furthermore it describes efficient computation of the DFT using the algorithm Fast Fourier Transform FFT and effects that appear in the DFT spectral analysis, the effect of the length of the DFT, the effect of the length of the segment of the analysed signal and the leakage. Next is explained the issue of the complex representation of real bandpass signals in the baseband, called the complex envelope of signals. This represenation uses the Hilbert Transform and the analytic signal. The thesis also describes the application library Real Time Toolbox of the software Matlab/Simulink, that uses the data acquition card AD622 allows to connect and process real signals in real time. In Matlab/Simulink with use this facilities is create the laboratory lesson, that simulating the complex represenation of real bandpass signals in real time.
Smart Metering system
Gregor, Filip ; Pokorný, Jiří (referee) ; Mlýnek, Petr (advisor)
The thesis deals with a PLC technology. In the theoretical part a principle of PLC functionality and its advantages and disadvantages were described. In the experimental part methodology of point-to-point testing with BPL modems was designed. In addition extensive measurement according to point-to-point methodology for topology with and without repeater in laboratory was realized. Impact of repeater on transmission parameters was tested according to RCF 2544, RFC 6349 recommendation and according to methodology of TCP Throughput with the aid of Net Blazer testers and iPerf tool. The results shows that topology with repeater decreases throughput approximately 50 % and increases Round trip time (RTT) more than twice compared to topology without repeater. In the last part a laboratory task with Smart Metering system and BPL modems was designed.
Influence of physical parameters and age of power lines on PLC/BPL performance and reliability
Benešl, Lukáš ; Sláčik, Ján (referee) ; Mlýnek, Petr (advisor)
BPL technology is quite widespread nowadays and the public is also somewhat aware of it. This technology can be used as a means of communication without the need to install additional media and thus use the existing infrastructure. In an effort to use the full potential of the technology, BPL communication began to be used to monitor the current state of cables in distribution networks online. Where the technology is already fully implemented, the distributor can use the data to evaluate the current situation. In this way, BPL technology can be used as a diagnostic tool to test the quality of a cable connection on which not only time but also humidity and other external influences could have a significant effect.
Design and experimental verification of broadband wireless technology using long-range modulation
Pospíšil, Ondřej ; Mlýnek, Petr (referee) ; Fujdiak, Radek (advisor)
This bachelor thesis deals with the use of wireless Low PowerWAN technology LoRaWAN in IoT. The thesis also describes both the physical layer on which the LoRa modulation works and the LoRaWAN protocol with its limits. The main goal of thesis was to design and realize network on LoRaWAN technology. The functionality of this network is verified in several scenarios in real traffic.
LAN communication unit resistivity against Internet origination attacks
Valach, Michal ; Mlýnek, Petr (referee) ; Mišurec, Jiří (advisor)
This thesis is focused on crypto-module RCM 3700, which is used for encrypted data transmission. Following work analyses basic network protocols and some sort of attacks in Ethernet network. The main goal of these attacks is to collect information and services about the device and to analyze transmitted data. Based on these information attacks can be done more precisely than without them. The main target of these attacks is the denial of particulary service or data abuse. Furthermore, in the diploma thesis configuration of router CISCO 2801 is applied in order to improve the LAN security. The deveploment board, which includes reset function, supplied circuit and interface for RS 232, was designed for crypto-module RCM 3700.
Modeling of power line communication using Network Simulator-3
Turan, Jonáš ; Sláčik, Ján (referee) ; Mlýnek, Petr (advisor)
This thesis deals with analysis and modelling of power line communications. The main aim is to examine the effects influencing transsmision of communication signals on powerline networks and theoretical capacity of the PLC channel using PLC framework created in NS-3. The introduction summarizes the theoretical knowledge in the area of data transmission over power line distribution network. Different types of noise and possibilities of calculation of theoretical transmission capacity are described as well. Several simple simulations are realized in practical part of this paper. These simulations explore the influence of the distance between the transmitter and receiver, length, impedance and number of branches between these nodes, affect of the type of modulation and noise on the transfer function as well as the capacity of the channel. There are also some simulations for large topology based on real position of electrometer. The main focus is to find positions of repeaters to ensure that some nodes of the topology can communicate.
Load analyser for industrial networks
Trávník, Kryštof ; Mlýnek, Petr (referee) ; Lieskovan, Tomáš (advisor)
The bachelor thesis is focused on developing an application, which is consisted of a web application and a web server. In the theoretical part are described topics such as DLMS protocol, specificationCOSEM, attacks on service denial, tools for generating denial attacks, and key parts of Docker. The app which is created is sending a request to smart meters together with Denial of service attacks. Hping3 is used for generating DoS attacks and several options of attack are available. The app is created in Java. Received results are shown in form CSV and also graphically in the web application.

Novák, Michal ; Mlýnek, Petr (referee) ; Mišurec, Jiří (advisor)
This semestral thesis focuses on the circuit design of the repeater for PLC communication in order to achieve greater distance in communication. It can also serve as a bridge for a separate modem device power grid. In this work we discuss the involvement of individual assembly parts repeater and proposed method of connection.
