The role of motivation in school teaching

Diploma thesis entitled "The role of motivation in school teaching" in its theoretical part deals with motivation, primarily with motivation in a connection with school environment. It devotes to the relation of teacher and pupil and to the pedagogical communication. The brief history of an action research is shown here and explained its principle as well. The essence of this work is the practical part, where the teaching (education) of pupils of the sixth grade of primary school is evaluated by means of an action research. Integral part of this work is a reflection of research data. In conclusion there is a proposal for solving the problems in teaching that has been shown by the research.
The Assessment in Current Lower Secondary School

This diploma thesis concentrates on the assessment in current lower secondary school. The author divides the topic into three parts: explanation of term assessment and school assessment, followed by aspects influencing the quality of assessment (criteria for assessment, the ability of students to assess and self-assess). The final part deals with two most common forms of assessment which are marking and verbal assessment. The diploma thesis is concluded with assessment of practical exploration. Its aim is findings in the area of practical usage of assessment provided by teachers, especially with marking as the most common form of assessment.
The influence of computer games on children's creativity

Diploma thesis "The influence of computer games on children's creativity" deals with a research which was carried out on 121 students of elementary and grammar schools in the age group of 13-15 years. The information was gained from two creativity tests and a questionnaire examination. The objective of the research was to confirm a hypothesis which contains the assumption that children's creativity is negatively influenced by playing computer games. A statistical significance was discovered between the frequency of playing and creativity, the type of the computer game and creativity, the frequency of playing and the sex and the frequency of playing and the type of school. The respondents were also examined by the sex and the type of school. In both cases a statistical significance was found between the parameters: type of preferred games and time spent by playing computer games. Furthermore, the author researched opinions of respondents on computer games.

Ethical Education; a Tool in the Prevention of Bullying

This thesis, "Ethical Education; a Tool in the Prevention of Bullying" defines the concept of bullying, maps its consequences and offers solutions for its prevention. It considers the roots of such intimidation, while examining the conduct of both willing and unwilling participants. 'Ethical Education' can be an effective bullying prevention tool when implemented as an intentional set of activities within primary educational settings. This work describes the contents and methods used to put 'Ethical Education' into practice, with all theoretical approaches reflecting practical educational elements. Research was conducted in Czech primary schools and investigated degrees of bullying, helpfulness, and levels of empathy among pupils receiving varying levels of ethical education.
Education of children of foreing nationalities at Czech schools

In the theoretical part of my thesis I address the issue of minorities and the members of minorities and their specific educational needs. I share the experience I gained at the international school, Riverside School, where I performed my practical teaching and taught for a further semester. I draw upon the variety of experiences of teachers and pupils. I describe the situation regarding the education of foreign children in the Czech Republic and at the end of the theoretical part I outline the situation in the United States of America. In the empirical part I attempt to determine by means of a questionnaire survey to what extent teachers and schools are prepared for their work with foreigners, whether they have a support system and whether they consider the phenomenon of foreign children at Czech schools to be a problem. In the end I compare the situation at Czech schools with the situation at schools in the USA.
