The analysis of eating habits of diabetics in the USA

Besides the good drug compliance, appropriate nutrition plays important role in successful management of the metabolic aspects of type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM2), and in the prevention of diabetes-related conditions. The goal of this study was to analyze eating habits among DM2 patients in the United States. The Fat- and Fiber-Related Diet Habits Questionnaire (A.Shattuck, 1998) was used in this study to obtain identical data for comparison. The original version was slightly adjusted according to the local habits. The study took place at the El Rio Community Health Center clinics in Tucson, Arizona, USA; during the time period of three months (September to December 2011). Patients with DM2 patients visiting the clinic were recruited for participation. Once patients were given the questionnaire, answers were put into the database created in an Excel application (Microsoft Office 2010) and analyzed using the frequency analysis. 207 patients filled out the questionnaire. The mean age was 56,8 ± 12,6 years, the mean age when diagnosed with DM2 was 45,3 ± 12,7 years, BMI 33,2 ± 7,8 kg/m2, the mean waist circumference 109,7 ± 19,7 cm and the mean A1C was 8,1± 1,7% (ad DCCT). 10% of participants were treated only by the diet, 49% with peroral antidiabetics (PAD), 14% with insulin, and 28% with combination...

Title of diploma thesis: Reasons for use and analysis of non-prescription medicine-taking behaviour of adolescents of high schools in the Czech Republic Objective: The objective is to analyse reasons and range of using drugs by students in high schools in the Czech Republic, to determine their experience with drugs related problems, to determine their knowledge about effects and risks of OTC drugs, and the source of information about drugs, which students use. Methodology: This cross - sectional study was conducted in three high schools in Hradec Králové in the Czech Republic. It was run from April to June 2010. 500 students aged 14 - 21 years participated. A questionnaire was distributed and completed during a class period. Results: Results concern only students, who really answered the question. 19 % of them use drugs for long - term illness. The most frequent illness was allergy. Medication beliefs are explored with the use of the Beliefs about Medication Questionnaire (BMQ). Medication beliefs have been associated with underuse of antihyperglycemic medications in patients with diabetes mellitus 2. type. Czech translation of the BMQ has been validated in the cohort of chronicaly ill patients. Aim of the study: To identify medication beliefs in the patients with diabetes 2. type, to estimate adherence with medications in those patients. To identify whether there is medication underuse because of cost. Methods: Consecutive patients with type 2 diabetes who came to fill the prescriptions in the two pharmacies in Kostelec nad Orlicí during October - December 2011. Those patients were asked to fill the questionnaire that consisted of the BMQ-specific scale, MARS (Medication Adherence Report Scale) and additional background questions. Social and Clinical Pharmacy Department Pharmaceutical Faculty in Hradec Králové Charles University in Prague Objective: Analysis of treatment of resistant hypertension in a group of patients attending Outpatient Clinic for Hypertension Treatment, Faculty Hospital Ostrava. Methods: This work has a retrospective character. The data were collected from patients' medical records from files of the Outpatient Clinic and from hospital's information system. The data were statistically processed. A period of one year from patients' first visit was determined for data collection. The values of blood pressure, pulse and patients' medication were registered in the following intervals: first patient's visit of the Clinic, then approximately 3, 6 and 12 months after the first visit. Results: A significant decrease in both systolic and diastolic blood pressure has been observed during the one year of follow-up (p<0.0001). At first patients' visit systolic blood pressure was below 140 mm Hg only in 20 % of patients compared to 92 % of patients with systolic blood pressure below the required limit at the end of the follow-up period. Pilot project investigate, which kind of antibiotics used dialyzed patients (DP) the most of all. Studies further compare information from two sets of DP from Czech Republic (Group I) and Lithuania (Group II) in specific aspects of antibiotic's consumption. Methodology: Retrospective analysis resulting from data evaluation from Nephris database of University Hospital of Hradec Králové by DP (2006&2007). Set of data of the Group II from Clinics of Kaunas Medical University - Lithuania was process by retrospective analysis too. GLMZ mode was used for statistical analysis. The uniqueness of the study flows from the characterisitics of analysed patients'group with sorted serious blood malignities requiring bone marrow transplantation. Moreover the thesis' aim is to judge, whether the correctness, accuracy, frequency of the administration and the sufficiency of the used daily dosages of the antimicrobial drugs in the cliníc was in order. The script also addresses to the field of combined antimicrobial treatment. It also scans, which drugs are administered in the hospitál department and under what circumstances and those empirical data compares with the guidelines. Knowledge of patients with diabetes mellitus about hypoglycaemia.

Nowadays, diabetes mellitus belongs to wide-spread diseases. 4-7% of population suffer from diabetes in developed countries and the number is increasing. Education of patients with diabetes mellitus ensures effective treatment and it contributes to the delay of diabetic complications. Therapy itself without correct and effective patient education can hardly lead to successful treatment. One of the frequent diabetic complications is hypoglycaemia, which can be fatal due to patient ignorance. The aim of this pilot study was to evaluate the degree of patient knowledge about hypoglycaemia, to monitor its distribution among patients and to analyze its possible risk factors. Cross-sectional observational study was used for the analysis. Data were obtained from structured direct interviews carried out among diabetic patients. The study was performed in Faculty hospital in Hradec Králové. Submission of patients into the study was random. Patients with diabetes mellitus types 1. and 2. visiting the diabetologic centre in Faculty hospital in Hradec Králové were included. Information was gained from 100 patients (109 addressed (92 %)). Aim of study: Find actually situation of raw materials for compounding of drugs in pharmacies of the Czech Republic and compare it with previous research. Methods: Research with questionnaire. Quetionnaire was complete by students of practice in pharmacies of the Czech republic. Work in Microsoft Excel. Results: Diploma paper worked 52 questionnaires from different types of pharmacy. From this questionnaires was created main database. In this database is 491 raw materials - 250 curative and helping materials and 241 curative preparations. In tables is percent occurrence of raw materials globally and in the different types of pharmacy. After that their evaluation in relation to at the same time valid norms and kind of operation.
