Raw materials of Manětín area and their presentation in the form of educational patthway
Čada, Martin ; Přikryl, Richard (advisor) ; Matějka, Dobroslav (referee)
This bachelor thesis focuses on the geological history (Late Proterozoic to Quaternary) of the Manětín Permian-Carboniferous basin. It also studies the historical and present use of raw materials (ores, non-metallics, caustobiolites) in the Manětín area, the northern part of the Plzeň-sever district. In appendix, information panels of the educational pathway are proposed. The Manětín basin consists of two structural levels. The lower one (Proterozoic metapelites) forms the base of the basin. The upper one (Permian-Carboniferous clastic sedimentary rocks) is the filling of the basin. There are also a few Proterozoic and Tertiary volcanic bodies. In the past, ore deposits (gold, silver, iron) had been exploited in the Manětín area. Non-metallics (glass sand, ocher, pyrite-slate, roof-slate, structural clay products, arkose) had been largely used, too. There was only a small scale extraction of caustobiolites (humites). Today's extraction is focused on natural stone (crushed stone) only (Zahrádka and Březín deposits). The proposal of the educational pathway contains seven information boards, that show the geological history of the Manětín basin and the use of local mineral raw materials (gold, slate, natural stone) with it's influence on the landscape, society and industry, particularly glass production. Industrial use of garnets
Kubový, Michal ; Matějka, Dobroslav (advisor) ; Klečka, Milan (referee)
This thesis is dealing with possibilities of industrial use of garnets. Garnets are characterised by crystallochemistry and physical properties. Most frequent ways of garnet application are introduced, mainly in plasma sprayed coatings, as abrasive at water-jet cutting, in water filters etc. Main garnet deposits in the world are presented as well.
Olivine and his industrial uses
Novotný, Petr ; Matějka, Dobroslav (advisor) ; Faltus, Miloš (referee)
This thesis is focused on the minerals olivine group, and their bearing deposits and practical use in industry. Specifies the structural, chemical and physical properties of minerals and is a prominent member of the group of olivine, which are given their distinctive characteristics. It also discusses the world's largest producers of olivine and especially the specific uses of this mineral, especially for industrial purposes. Keywords Olivine, olivine group, refractory materials, abrasive water jet cutting
Geology in the Upper Secondary General Education Curricula
Jirásková, Kateřina ; Matějka, Dobroslav (advisor) ; Ziegler, Václav (referee)
This thesis evaluates various forms used by upper secondary general schools ("gymnázium" in Czech) to implement geology to in their school curricula and how these schools use the freedom afforded by the Framework educational program. Educational programs of 180 schools were studied. Most schools do not use the possibility of creating a separate subject Geology and include the geological themes to another subject, mostly Geography and Biology in the second place. Many schools also divided them into several science subjects. Only nine schools concentrated the geological curriculum to create a separate subjekt Geology. Very little attention has been paid to geological fieldworks and geological excursions. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)
Geochemistry of subvolcanites of Roztoky volcanite complex
Jahoda, Jan ; Jelínek, Emil (advisor) ; Matějka, Dobroslav (referee)
Subvulcanics rocks of the Roztoky volcanic centre consists of trachytic and phonolitic intrusions, accompanied by hypabyssal intrusions of trachybasaltic (essexite, monzodiorite) and syenitic (sodalite syenite) charakter and dyke swarm of lamprophyres > semilamprophyres. Intrusions of the hypabyssal faintly alcalic series (essexite, monzodiorite, sodalite syenite) are 33-28 Ma old, the lamprophyres of greatly alcalic series (monchiquite, camptonite) are 31-26 Ma old and the semilamprophyres of faintly alcalic series (gauteite, bostonite) are 28-24 Ma old (sensu Ulrych, 1998). The datas corresponds to the trachybasalt - basaltit - trachyandesite suite of the Děčín Formation and the interval of České středohoří Mts. volcanic activity to (42-16 Ma, Eocene -Miocene). 14 samples plutonic rocks of the essexite-monzodiorite-sodaliticsyenite suite and 10 samples of theirs venous equivalents from (semi)lamprophyres and tinguaites groups were withdrawaled in the Roztoky nad Labem area. I analyzed in detail 5 essexite samples and 6 (semi)lamprophyres samples in those study. I studied the sampels using polarization microscope and subsequently elektron micro-analyzer in the analitic metods laboratory of the Geologic institute of Academy of Science, Czech Republic. All analyzed samples belong to II., hypabysal,...
Applied Mineralogy in Forensic Science field
Kotrlý, Marek ; Matějka, Dobroslav (advisor) ; Kopecká, Ivana (referee) ; Vojtíšek, Pavel (referee)
1 ABSTRACT Surprisingly, applied mineralogy plays an important role in the forensic science field. It is the miner- alogical phases which exist in many kinds of materials and traces but also the mineralogical analysis procedures which are often used in the field of so called trace evidence. For purposes of this study, 4 important fields of forensic microanalysis were chosen. These are those fields in which applied min- eralogy is applied and which characterize the width and heterogeneity of the concerned area. Powder X-ray microdiffraction plays quite an important and irreplaceable role not only in the direct phase analysis of substances in mixtures. The author designed, tested and introduced a set for centra- tion and direct check of the analysed surface during micro-diffraction analysis and also experimentally optimised sensing parameters for the different system configuration. A possibility to calculate the size of the nanoparticles (more precisely the size of a mono crystal domain) was tested. XRD methods ap- plication allows refining organic analysis for example in the case of new synthetic drugs. Micro diffrac- tion was also used for the first complex phase analysis of colour layers of the altar in the chapel in the castle of Křivoklát (dated 1480 - 1490). Forensic analysis of soil phases used to be,...
Creation and testing of educational materials for the Geological park of Faculty of Science
Poláček, Boris ; Janštová, Vanda (advisor) ; Matějka, Dobroslav (referee)
The thesis is focused on use of the geological science park as a mean of acquiring and developing knowledge in the field of geoscience disciplines in the teaching of natural science, biology and geography at primary schools and secondary grammar schools. This thesis consists of a general retrieval of teaching geoscientific disciplines at basic schools and secondary grammar schools based on the national curriculum standarts including description of actual situation in a selected school where my teaching praxis took place. Worksheets for pupils and methodical materials for teachers will be created as means to support teaching in the geological park. Finally, the potential of the created materials will be evaluated from the attractiveness and better remembering of knowledge in geoscience disciplines point of view. Key words: geological park, worksheets, teaching geology
