Model of landscape connectivity for European otter
Bureš, Jan ; Romportl, Dušan (advisor) ; Matějček, Tomáš (referee)
Model of landscape connectivity for European otter Abstract Landscape connectivity is one of the main functions that mitigate the effects of landscape fragmentation on organisms. It allows organisms to move through habitat areas to natural habitat. Given of the overall decline in biodiversity, conservation of landscape connectivity is one of the main objectives of current nature protection. The greatest impact of landscape fragmentation on the population of European otters is mortality on roads. The most of the dead otters are found every year in the Jihočeský and Vysočina regions. That is why this region is an adequate model area for determining the connectivity of the landscape from the perspective of otters. This thesis deals with landscape fragmentation, habitat connectivity and landscape resistance. CIRCUISCAPE is the main tool used to solve connectivity modelling. From the resulting connectivity, landscape resistance and mortality values, risk areas for migration were selected. The telemetry data from the area around Dačice were used to validate this model. Keywords: habitat connectivity - landscape resistance - telemetry - European otter
Light pollution in the vicinity of the Ondřejov Observatory
Kocourek, David ; Matějček, Tomáš (advisor) ; Treml, Václav (referee)
Light pollution is currently one of the environmental problems of human society. With the technological development and the increase of the human population on the planet, the landscape is constantly increasing the emission of disturbing light into the surrounding area during the night. The largest producer of light pollution is the urban and suburban regions where light spreads to several decades away, increasing the brightness of the sky, as well as rural or nature-close landscapes. Exposure to disturbing light has a demonstrably unfavorable effect on human, animal and plant health as well as on the balance of whole ecosystems. In this work I focus on finding and assessing the state of sky brightness in the interest zone of the observatory of Astronomical Institute AV at Ondřejov. Based on my own data measured in the field during nine night excursions, I created an interpolated map of ArcMap 10.2 and, according to directional measurements, interpreted the main polluters in this area. The results clearly show a clear trend to reduce the sky's brightness from the northwest to the east. The measurements also show that the local sources of obstrusive light near Ondřejov have a slight influence on the overall zenith brightness of the sky compared to the presence of Prague, several miles away....

Natural monuments in Prague and their potential for tourism development: a case study of Prague - Lysolaje
Zavadil, Tomáš ; Marianovská, Veronika (advisor) ; Matějček, Tomáš (referee)
This thesis deals with an analysis of a relationship between current foreign tourism and natural monuments in Prague. Prague is touristically attractive mainly due to its cultural and architectural monuments, however it is also characterized by its specific relief and relatively well preserved nature. Nature motivated tourism in an urban destination is a rarely discussed topic in the academic literature. The main object of this thesis is to find, whether there is connection between foreign incoming tourism in natural monuments of Prague and to find out what impact this connection has. The research itself is divided into two parts with two different qualitative methods used. The first part uses a content analysis of chosen texts, in the second part the recreational potential of specific area was detected via case study in the urban district Prague - Lysolaje. The influence of natural monuments on the tourism in Prague was confirmed, but with comparison to the cultural monuments the natural monuments don't have much influence on the tourism in Prague. Keywords: tourism, natural monuments, Prague, tourist precincts, Prague - Lysolaje
The influence of consumption changes on ecological footprint
Mík, Milan ; Matějček, Tomáš (advisor) ; Fialová, Magdalena (referee)
The bachelor thesis presented below targets on the issue of the environmental aspect of sustainable development. The key matter of this paper is to find out which spatial consequences the human consumption has or might have. Possible changes of this consumption and its changed spatial effects on the environment were especially examined. Ecological footprint index was used for this purpose. After defining this assessing tool, there were created twelve consumption scenarios in total. The scenarios represent three main categories of consumption which were identified as the most affecting the environment. These are food consumption, consumption related with transport and energy consumption in households. Using a combination of methods, the value and structure of ecological footprint of each scenario were assessed. All the calculations, as well as the spatial outcomes, took place in a model area of Hradec Králové, one of the regional capitals of Czechia. Key words: ecological footprint, sustainability, consumption, scenario, modelling, Hradec Králové
Physical-geographic aspects of alien plant species distribution in the Křivoklátsko Protected Landscape Area
Nováková, Zuzana ; Chuman, Tomáš (advisor) ; Matějček, Tomáš (referee)
Plant invasions are becoming increasingly more discussed issue, primarily due to a negative impact on global biodiversity. It has also an economic impact and it affects human health. It is therefore important to study the introduction of plant species and their distribution, and monitor them in some way. This is particularly applied to protected areas, where rare species of plants are often endangered. In this work were described factors that affect distribution of alien plant species in the level of plant communities, landscape and large territories. For the practical part of the work has been selected the Křivoklátsko PLA as a model area, mainly because of detailed botanical mapping. There were analysed diversity, origin and distribution of alien plant species. Also the effect of selected factors on distribution of alien plant species in the Křivoklátsko PLA were assessed. The average altitude is the strongest factor. The second strongest factor is the fraction of anthropogenic habitats and moderate factor is the habitat diversity. The length of rivers is weak predictor and the length of roads is very weak predictor of number of alien plant species.
Analysis of textbooks in terms of interpretation of global issues
Brodníček, Daniel ; Matějček, Tomáš (advisor) ; Řezníčková, Dana (referee)
In the contemporary world, when the whole world is connected, the fact saying that anything what happens on the other side of the world does not have influence to our lives is not truthful anymore. We live in an era of globalization. Therefore, it is important to focus on the global issues already at school and also on the way in which they concern us. However, it should be borne in the mind that, the most important thing is the way, how teachers explain it to their students. The main aim of this paper is to analyze geographic textbooks for high schools in terms of interpretation of global issues. Semantic units that are related to global issues will be sorted into groups according to the paradigm to which it belongs (national, humanistic and global). Most of semantic units contained in textbooks were included into a global direction, which is characterized by its neutrality. Keywords: textbook evaluation, global issues, geographical education, globalization, global thinking
Distribution of invasive neophytes in the riparian vegetation of the Berounka river
Randová, Nela ; Matějček, Tomáš (advisor) ; Romportl, Dušan (referee)
The river banks are very often colonized by invasive alien plants. The aim of this paper was to monitor the presence of invasive neophytes in riparian vegetation of the Berounka river and to compare the results with those of Boháčková (2007) from the year 2006. The research was completed during August in the year 2015. In every segment of the riparian vegetation were observed the presence and approximate population of seventeen invasive neophytes. In the riparian vegetation of the Berounka river were observed thirteen invasive neophytes on the whole. Impatiens glandulifera occured in the largest number of the segments, very closely followed by Robinia pseudacacia. Reynoutria sp. represented the largest population of individuals in the entire study area. The results of the comparison showed that the invasive neophytes are spreading to new locations but their population is not getting bigger. Key words: invasive neophytes, riparian vegetation, stream, changes in vegetation, monitoring of vegetation
