Participation of Adult Users of Cochlear Implant in the Labour Market

The aim of the study was to determine the issue of integration of postlingually deaf adults into professional activities - what effect did the cochlear implant have on employment, i.e. what impact did the cochlear implant have on the working life of its user. The research was realized by an anonymous semi-structured type questionnaire, which contained 33 questions overall. 19 adult respondents filled out the questionnaire in total, the questionnaire was provided through the website or sent out via e-mail addresses. The predominant majority (74 %) of respondents stated that they do the same job even after implantation of a cochlear implant. Thanks to the hearing impairment, a total of 37 % of respondents received support from their employers. However, should be taken into consideration that 26 % of respondents haven't confided to their employer about the issue at all. More than half (95 %) of respondents agreed that the cochlear implant provided them expected benefits for participation in working life. At the same time, they assessed the improvement of the situation in individual areas by the number 2 (out of five possible numbers from 1-5) - it is, that there was a slight change for the better. Quality of life in adult users of cochlear implant before and after the implantation

Title: Quality of life in adult users of cochlear implant before and after the implantation Objectives: The aim of the study was to determine the degree of life satisfaction with a cochlear implant (CI) in postlingually deaf people, who lost their hearing after acquiring speech skills - i.e. after the 7th year of life. Methods: The research was realized by its own anonymous semi-structured survey, which contained 31 questions in total. Then was the survey was provided through a website and sent out using e-mail addresses, with a total of 29 adult respondents completing it. Results: The predominant majority (52 %) of respondents agreed, that CI provided them with the same or better benefit, than they themselves expected. At the same time, they assessed the hearing and understanding in each area with a score of 2 - so that, there was improvement in all areas. The predominant majority of respondents did not need more time to think about implantation and also get together good or rather good feelings from hearing at the first setup. Inclusion of a child with a cochlear implant

Title: Inclusion of a child with a cochlear implant Objectives: The aim of the work was to assess the success of inclusion of pupils with hearing impairment who are users of the cochlear implant in the current educational process at the first level of elementary school from parents'point of view. Methods: The research was conducted by an anonymous questionnaire consisting of 39 questions. 17 parents of children with cochlear implant who attend elementary school participated in the study. Results: All respondents think that their child is satisfied at school and majority (82 %) of them did not face difficulties with enrolment of their child to mainstream school. Pupils are usually well integrated in physical education. Parents' choices of school type is usually influenced by more factors such as sibling and distance of the school from their home. Majority of parents lost their worries about their child's education in mainstream school within few months of school attendance. Conclusion: Results show that inclusion of a deaf child with cochlear implant into mainstream education was perceived by parents as a success and is currently not perceived as a problem.
