The effect of serum 25-hydroxycholekalciferol levels on musculoskeletal system in children with inflammatory bowel disease Background: Low bone mineral density and osteoporosis represent severe secondary complications that can be a result of childhood chronic disease. According to Frost's mechanostat theory impaired muscle functions may contribute to the changes observed on the skeleton. Aims: The aim of this study was to: 1) evaluate parameters of bone mineral density, bone geometry and dynamic muscle functions in children and adolescent with chronic disease - inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and type 1 diabetes (T1D); 2) evaluate a possible effect of vitamin D deficiency and vitamin D supplementation or duration of the disease on the musculoskeletal unit; 3) determine clinical or laboratory predictors of muscle and bone parameters. Methods: The study was divided into two substudies according to the diagnosis. Seventy patients with IBD (median age 13.8 years) were included in one study, fifty-five of which completed all of the planned procedures. 1 ABSTRACT The prevalence of overweight and obesity is constantly growing all over the world. Not only adults, but also children and adolescents are affected by this increase. The development of overweight or obesity in childhood represents a rather significant health risk that extends to adulthood. Both being overweight and being obese causes various secondary diseases, e.g. type II. diabetes or cardiovascular diseases. That is why the attempts to stop the increase of prevalence of overweight and obesity emerged in recent years. The attempts to stop these tendencies are aimed especially at children and adolescents, who carry the habits developed in childhood even to their adult life. In order for these attempts to be successful, one needs to have at their disposal information about the contemporary status and factors, which influence the development of overweight and obesity. The primary prevention ought to be concentrating on these factors. The survey, which was created in the questionnaire form, was conducted in primary schools and on the lower grade of grammar schools in Prague and its surroundings. 1897 questionnaires were distributed throughout the whole year; 366 were given back and out of these 225 questionnaires belong to girls and 141 to boys. Histological Sections of Mouse Organs and their Usage in Secondary Education

This thesis is concerned with the topic of teaching histology at secondary schools. Histology is focused on the study of microscopic structure of tissue. By this it comprises the basic foundation stone for the studies of organs and organ systems not merely in humans, but also in other animals. The method of preparing the permanent histological slides, which has also been tested in practice, is thoroughly described in this thesis. The main goal of the practical part was to prepare a representative collection of the permanent histological sections through the organs of the house mouse (Mus muculus), to acquire its photo documentation as a base for an interactive histological atlas. House mouse (Mus musculus) was chosen as the model animal, because of its frequent utilization in various laboratory experiments and because this model mammal has the structure of tissues similar to human. The atlas consists of the photo documentation of histological sections through the following organs: lungs, skin, heart, thymus gland, spleen, epididymis, testicle, penis, spermatic sacs, striated muscle, heart muscle, smooth muscle, liver, tongue, pancreas, small intestine, large intestine, gall bladder, kidney, urinary bladder, urethra, cerebellum and hippocampus.
