Genetically modified organisms and the legal regulation of their disposal
Malá, Karolina ; Damohorský, Milan (advisor) ; Stejskal, Vojtěch (referee)
Resumé GENETICALLY MODIFIED ORGANISMS AND LEGAL REGULATIONS OF TREATMENT WITH THEM The purpose of my thesis is to analyse the legal regulation of genetically modified organisms and genetical products on three different levels - international, European and Czech. The chosen issue deals with contradictions and controversy as even the scientists are not able to define risks linked to GMOs. This is the main reason why regulation differs so much from the very indulgent one in the USA, Canada or Argentina which are also the biggest producers of GMOs, to the very strict and coherent regulation of the European Union. Defining risks and long-term effects of GMOs is going to be the key for future use and regulation of biotechnologies. This thesis is composed of eight chapters, each of them dealing with different aspects of the regulation of genetical engineering. Chapter One is the introduction, describing the main concerns of the study. Chapter Two defines basic terminology used in the paper. It is subdivided into three parts. The first one describes the possible risks of biotechnologies, the second one its' positives and possible gains and the third part is the conclusion of the chapter. Chapter Three focuses on the principles used in regulation of genetical engineering with the main concern of the prevention...
Preferences of the main groups of pollinators for the functional floral traits
Malá, Karolína ; Janovský, Zdeněk (advisor) ; Hadrava, Jiří (referee)
This bachelor thesis summarizes the preferences of the main functional groups of pollinators towards floral traits of plants. Due to coevolution and mutual selection pressures, these two life forms have begun to adapt to each other and develop traits on which the future of their life depends. The plant seeks to attract its pollinators, thus ensuring efficient pollen transfer or reproduction for its species. Attractants are used to motivate visitors to its flowers. These attractants provide pollinators with either direct rewards (food, shelter, brood) or rewards in the form of sensory perceptions (colour, scent, morphology). Recently, it has become apparent that flower colour, morphology and the type of food reward offered by the flower have the greatest influence on pollinator choice. Based on preferences towards attractants, we can organize several functional groups whose representatives have the same or similar choice preferences. Key words Pollination syndromes, pollinator, selection pressures, plant traits, coevolution, preferences, fidelity, diptera, coleoptera, lepidoptera, hymenoptera, birds, colour, morphology, rewards
For King and State: The Ashburnham Family in the Times of the English Civil War
Malá, Karolína ; Valkoun, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Tumis, Stanislav (referee)
This thesis deals with the history of the Ashburnham family during the English Civil War. The research is based primarily on the examination of published and unpublished archival sources. The first chapter outlines the origin of the Ashburnham family from their arrival in England, probably with the troops of William the Conqueror, until the early seventeenth century when their prosperity came from the processing of iron. The diploma thesis also analyses the reasons that caused the outbreak of the English Civil War. The core of the thesis is focused on the relationship between John Ashburnham and Charles I, mainly on king's escape from Hampton Court to the Isle of Wight in 1647 and John's part in it. Although the history of the Ashburnhams is followed mainly during the times of the English Civil War, the thesis also covers the period following the execution of Charles I focusing on the social and financial situation of the Ashburnham family. The thesis is concluded with the post-war settlement of Charles II with the Ashburnhams and the short-and-long term consequences on their family resulting from their involvement in the English Civil War.

Domestic Servants in England and Wales between 1880-1914: A Contribution to the British History of late Victorian and Edwardian Era.
Malá, Karolína ; Valkoun, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Soukup, Jaromír (referee)
The bachelor thesis deals with the issue of domestic service in England and Wales between the years 1880-1914. The aim of this thesis is to clarify the reasons that caused the beginning of decline of domestic service ahead of World War I. The thesis explains the way of hiring and firing servants, it describes their daily routine and advantages and disadvantages of this occupation, as well as the structure and hierarchy within household. The cardinal element in the recession of domestic service was the change of society's perception towards servants regarding the gradual disconnection of salary and social rank. This phenomenon together with the gentry's unwillingness to keep up with the times inevitably led to gradual decadence of domestic service. WWI and the consequent rise of alternative job offers only speeded up this process.
