Rusting Away: An Ethnography of Totaled Cars, lnformality, Capitalism, Waste, and Sustainability at a Bohemian Auto Salvage Yard
Mašek, Pavel ; Sosna, Daniel (advisor)
Building upon my long-term ethnographic research at an informal auto salvage yard in Central Bohemia, this dissertation attempts to reveal that there are places that-albeit sustaining capitalism-correct the damage this globally prevailing politico-economic system causes, as these relatively marginalized places can reveal the hidden corners of one's own society. In addition to presenting and describing the everyday life of the workers at the auto salvage yard, wrapped in the context of the omnipresent mis/trust related to friendship, hostility, and knowledge "battles," I discuss the meaning of various greenwashing eco-slogans, which in reality seem more like a tired marketing ploy than a real solution to current environmental problems. I build on the theory of containers and combine it with the idea of the ecology and economy as non-mutually exclusive parts of originally one concept (oikonomia) to touch upon the idea of responsiveness concerning wasting and its shift towards the individual level and morality, and consequently, feelings of personal guilt. Based on the experience of salvage yard workers' creativity and skills, I attempt to reveal through the lens of the "quiet sustainability" concept- complemented with recent ideas on the practices of repair, maintenance, and care-that "greening" can...

Secure odor neutralization system
Děcký, Martin ; Mašek, Pavel (referee) ; Možný, Radek (advisor)
This bachelor thesis deals with the neutralization of odour using ozone and the transfer of the acquired data to a web server. Based on the calculations, suitable components were selected to make the whole device maintenance free and the system was built. The sending of data to the server was dealt with HTTP (Hypertext Transfer Protocol) POST method. The assembled system should be able to function based on the collected and evaluated data, but it is not able to send the data to the server which is secured with the latest TLS (Transport Layer Security) protocol.
Secured vehicle monitoring using OBDII and LPWAN networks
Smart Forest: Utilization of 5G Networks for Fire Detection and Prediction
Popelka, Adam ; Možný, Radek (referee) ; Mašek, Pavel (advisor)
The goal of bachelor thesis was in teoretical part study and describe Internet of Things, found difference between H2H (Human to Human), M2M (Machine to Machine) and mMTC (Massive Machine Type Communication), describe LPWAN (Low Power Wide Area Network) in licensed and unlicensed frequency band and compare them. The next task was describe in detail technology in licensed frequency band NB-IoT and LTE Cat-M and choose ona of the technology for use in practical part. In teoretical part it should also be found description of application protocols for LWPAN as MQTT, CoAP, LWM2M and then describe security. The task in the practical part was to choose a communication technology, communication module and device that will be used to measure the temperature, take photos of the surrounding environment, and then send the obtained data to the server. In order to put the device into operation, a program must be created that will measure the ambient temperature at intervals, which it will evaluate and, in the event of and excess, take a picture of the environmet and send the data to the server.
The design of an accurate rain gauge with the ability of real-time reading
Jílek, Jiří ; Mašek, Pavel (referee) ; Možný, Radek (advisor)
Rainfall estimation using point-to-point microwave links is a promising way to expand the rain gauge network in the future. However, this opportunistic measurement method is still in the research phase and faces several problems. This paper focuses on one of the problems of this research area, namely the insufficient number of existing rain gauges on the path of the microwave link for the correlation of measured data, by designing a portable rain gauge using data transmission to a remote server using narrowband internet of things (NB-IoT ) technology. To expand its capabilities, the device is also equipped with temperature sensors and a light level sensor. The device is designed with an emphasis on desirable low energy consumption, as it should be able to measure data even without the reach of the electrical network. The outcome of this work is the verification of the functionality of the device in a real environment and the evaluation of its suitability for the intended use case.
Implementation of the LTE Cat-M Communication Technology Utilizing the NS-3
Le, Dinh Thao ; Kubánková, Anna (referee) ; Mašek, Pavel (advisor)
Diplomová práce se zabývá komunikační technologií Long Term Evolution Machine Type Communication (LTE-M) a její implementací v simulačním nástroji Network Simulator 3 (NS-3).
