Petr Pavlík, Ph.D. PRAHA 2011 2 ABSTRACT Split-up of family is not a gender-neutral phenomenon. In most cases, children are confided to the care of mother after the split-up. The family law recognizes also other forms of care, but both joint-custody parenting is rarely used in the Czech Republic. However, there is a tendency to change the state affairs in recent years. Supporters and opponents of joint custody voice their arguments in the public sphere, but relatively little attention has been paid so far to those who are supposed practice joint custody parenting, the parents. That is why, the focus of my research has been a comparison of experience of mothers and fathers practicing joint custody of their children in the Czech Republic. Concretely, I wanted to study whether, similarly with foreign studies, the mothers and the fathers experience joint custody differently. For example, whether the fathers have received a bigger support from their family and friends than have the mothers and whether the fathers experience less financial stress than the mothers. My research is explorative...

Gender aspects of presentation of science in media : Presentation of female and male scientists
Tenglerová, Hana ; Havelková, Hana (advisor) ; Maříková, Hana (referee)
Science plays an important role in society, has an authoritative position and gets considerable financial resources. The media's image is constantly shaping and influencing the perception of society at large and the scientist alone. The work focuses on how science is constructed in the media from a gender perspective, how it reflects and reproduces the gendered order of our society. Research focus here concentrates on the presentation of women and men - scientists in four major Czech newspapers. Theoretical basis of the work are constructivism and particularly feminist media theory. Metodology is based on quantitative content analysis and qualitative analysis, inspired by semiology. Analysis results show that the women scientists are in the presentation of science ignored and their contribution is reduced in many aspects. From a quantitative underrepresenation, to their higher concentration at the backsides of the papers, the less authoritative role given to them in articles or by using of motherhood as a means of distracting from their expertise: preferred representatives of medial science are male. Key words: gender, media, science.
Sexual harassment as an invisible problem of Czech universities: the experience of implementing anti-discrimination policies in abroad and looking for a definition within the Czech context

Another topics discussed in this work are the ways in which people solve questions o f a coordination of two working careers within a couple and the partnership life in a context of professional lives of partners. A comparison of the level of conflict experienced between the working and private life in several European countries is also performed. The present work is based on a quantitative analysis of the two data sources. The first part is based on the data collected in a study involving 5510 respondents, which was done in the Czech Republic in the year 2005. The second part is based on the European Social Survey (ESS) data collected in the years 2004 and 2005. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)
