Youth Exchange in the process of Czech-German Reconciliation
Staňková, Marie ; Handl, Vladimír (advisor) ; Lizcová, Zuzana (referee)
The diploma thesis examines extracurricular youth exchanges and meetings and their role in the Czech-German reconciliation process with a time focus on the period between 1996 and 2020. The Czech-German reconciliation process was influenced by a large number of state and non-state actors, and while the role of many of them was extensively described in the literature, Czech-German youth exchanges received only marginal attention. This diploma thesis aims to describe the development and activities of the Coordination Centers of Czech- German Youth Exchanges Tandem, the Czech-German Fund for the Future and the Czech- German Youth Forum in the given period and to monitor how youth exchanges and meetings supported by these three institutions developed. The focus is mainly on their content and thematic development. Furthermore, several types of impacts and influence of youth exchanges in public space are described and placed in the context of the analytical concept of the process of reconciliation in international relations according to Lily Gardner Feldman.
Renewable energy use at the municipal level in Germany
Řezníček, Jakub ; Lizcová, Zuzana (advisor) ; Nigrin, Tomáš (referee)
This bachelor thesis is about the Energiewende process (energy transformation from fossil and nuclear energy sources to renewable resources) and the use of renewable energy resources in German municipalities - how they obtain it and use the funds they get from the operation of renewable sources. The first part of the thesis deals with the description of the Energiewende process - what strategy the current german government of the SPD, Greens and FDP (2022) presented in the coalition agreement, what are the German emission targets and energy mix and describes some problems that accompany this process. The second part deals with the use of renewable resources directly in individual German municipalities. The work builds on the research question "How do German municipalities obtain and use renewable energy?" The used method is a case study, which compares three German municipalities from different federal states - Feldheim (Brandenburg), Wildpoldsried (Bavaria) and Sprakebüll (Schleswig - Holstein). They have built renewable energy resources (wind and solar power plants and biogas stations) on their territory, thanks to which they can now be 100% energy independent. The finances that municipalities derive from fees and from renewable energy trading are invested in local development. These villages...
Jörg Haider's impact on the Austrian Free Party (FPÖ)
Floder, Daniel ; Nigrin, Tomáš (advisor) ; Lizcová, Zuzana (referee)
This bachelor's thesis deals with the impact of Jörg Haider on the development and changes of Freedom Party of Austria (FPÖ) mainly in the time of his chairmanship of the party on the federal level between the years 1986 and 2000, when the small party, troubled by infighting between the German-nationalist and the liberal wing, gradually transformed into a practically unified right-wing populist party. The aim of this thesis is to define the influence Haider had on his party given the party's exponential rise in popularity, a trend that culminated in the federal election of 1999, where the FPÖ won a staggering 26,9 % of votes. The research therefore focuses on Haider's personality and party governance, which includes his way of making decisions within the party, pushing through his ideas, dealing with the opposition of his party colleagues, and, last but not least, his political and ideological directing of the party. Haider's behaviour within the party, and in public, is also analysed in the thesis, with regards to the behaviour of the other members of the FPÖ. The thesis also deals with other time periods of Haider's life and the FPÖ's existence. One of these periods is the time before Haider became the chairman of the FPÖ to bring a better contextualization and understanding of the ideological...

Asylum Policy of CSU on the background of two migration crises.
Duháčková, Klára ; Dimitrov, Michal (advisor) ; Lizcová, Zuzana (referee)
The diploma thesis deals with the asylum policy of the Christian Social Union in Bavaria (CSU) in the period of two migration crises, i.e., in 1990-1993 and 2015-2017. Since the 1980s, the party has profiled itself as a major advocate of national interests in an effort to limit the high influx of immigrants and refugees, arguing not only by the enormous financial burden and frequent abuses of asylum law for the economic benefit of refugees. In response to these arguments, CSU made an asylum compromise in the early 1990s, an amendment to the Basic Law that defined the conditions under which a politically persecuted person can invoke the right to asylum, which is still part of German asylum law. However, since 2013, the German media has begun to pay attention to the CSU's friendlier rhetoric in the areas of migration and asylum, especially regarding the statements of the new Bavarian Minister of Labour, Social Affairs, Family and Integration, Emilia Müller. The text of the diploma thesis outlines the CSU's asylum policy approach in the background of both migration crises. Based on the analysis of official documents and party's periodical called Bayernkurier, the thesis states that there is a partial shift of Christian social rhetoric in the asylum policy of CSU. In conclusion, the thesis is devoted...
Poles and Poland as the Others as voiced by the German media
Theile, Johanna Friederike ; Kołodziej, Jacek (advisor) ; Lizcová, Zuzana (referee)
In the present work, the changing discourse in Germany about Poland is examined, with the aim to reveal reasons for political and societal conflicts between them. In order to do this, two periods of three weeks each in main German print media are examined. The discourse is analysed on the basis of the concepts Othering and Belonging, which are in the following considered to be opposite concepts (see Barkey, 2018). Othering is a concept stemming from the works of different philosophers, like Husserl (1960) who discusses how the other is perceived, or Hegel (2012) who argues that the self needs the other in order to define itself. The concept gained relevance as it was helpful to describe and analyse discrimination (de Beauvoir, 2011; Said, 1978). It is the social process of identifying an opposite as not belonging to the self, which is seen as the basis for racism or female oppression, and their partially dreadful consequences (see Brons, 2015; Hegel, 2012; Powell & Menendian, 2015). Examples for the terrible realisation of Othering can be found in the German-Polish history, such as the horrific crimes against Polish people based on the German belief of racial superiority during the Second World War. The Response of the Federal Republic of Germany to the Russian Hybrid Threat: Case Study "Fall Lisa"
Pokorný, Jiří ; Handl, Vladimír (advisor) ; Lizcová, Zuzana (referee)
This master's thesis deals with the response of the Federal Republic of Germany to the Russian hybrid threat, which is examined using a case study of the so-called "Lisa case" from January 2016. The thesis aims to place the "Lisa case" in the context of German-Russian relations and hybrid threats in the security reality of the 21st century. Germany and Russia have long had a special relationship, which, however, fell into crisis after the Russian annexation of the Crimean Peninsula. The main goal of Russia's efforts to influence social and political development in Europe has become Germany, which must deal with new methods and strategies of hybrid warfare. The advent of hybrid threats is a challenge not only for Germany but also for its allies. Russia's view of hybrid threats proves that the term has different meanings for different actors. One of the manifestations of the Russian hybrid threat is the case of a thirteen-year-old girl of German-Russian origin Lisa F. who was missing in Berlin for several hours and allegedly raped by migrants. Although the German police promptly refuted the case, the Russian media misused the event to fuel an atmosphere of fear and uncertainty, especially among a significant minority of Russian Germans. The incident spread to the intergovernmental level when Russian...
Hartz IV and the Labour Market Miracle - Causality or Coincidence?
Slaba, Martin ; Lizcová, Zuzana (advisor) ; Barth, Boris (referee)
This thesis examines the effects of the so-called Hartz IV reform on the German labour market development, with special emphasis on unemployment reduction. To determine the causal link, a variety of tools are used, namely macroeconomic studies, worker flow analysis, surveys and comparison with competing arguments. Preponderance of evidence suggests, that Hartz IV played a significant role in unemployment rate reduction in the period following its implementation. Size of this effects is hard to discern exactly, but an estimate in the range of 1,5-2 percentage points should be quite accurate. Contrary to popular belief, this reduction did not occur to the detriment of general job quality, such as by splitting of old jobs or by dilution of their working hours. Furthermore, the issue of relative poverty is investigated. The thesis concludes that the increase in relative poverty was not caused primarily by Hartz IV, nor is it a good measure of actual living standard. The increase seems to be to a large degree driven by demographic changes, mainly the decreasing size of German households.
