The United States and Russia: The Return of the Cold War?
Levý, Jakub ; Hornát, Jan (advisor) ; Litera, Bohuslav (referee)
This bachelor thesis addresses current subject of tense and conflicted relations between the United States and the Russian Federation, which are the worst since the end of the Cold War and are remiscent of that confrontational time period. The state of relations has deteriorated in particular since the events in Ukraine in 2014 and most recently demonstrated by reciprocal suspension of Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty from February 2019. The main aim of this thesis is therefore the attempt to answer the question whether the current relations between these powers can really be characterized as a return of the Cold War. And since the Cold War is not only an abstract concept, but also had some specific features (causes, its own characteristics and a certain balance of power), this bachelor thesis, in order to answer the above question in the form of a complex comparison, first analyzes these features and then applies them to the present period.
Failure of establishing South Vietnam between Johnson's presidency and Paris treaty 1973
Koreček, Janis ; Čížek, Martin (advisor) ; Litera, Bohuslav (referee)
This bachelor thesis deals with the United State's engagement in the Vietnam War. Time became limited under the Johnson and Nixon administration. The primary target of this thesis is to gather main reasons for why South Vietnam was unable to be established as an independent and modern state as had both South Korea and Japan in the past. There are significances under the Nixon and Johnson administration. Both had been tight with the US legislative process and were able to narrow their options of how to solve the stalemate in Vietnam. Johnson was more focused on domestic policy known as "Great Society". For Nixon, foreign policy was of more importance. Great discord came from Nguyen Van Thieu, South Vietnam's head of state, who never co-operated much with US administration. His region was more repressive than democratic and was one in which there was no connection between him and the South Vietneme inhabitants. The Army of South Vietnam played a special role. The conclusion describes the main motives of why South Vietnam ultimately failed.
The Causes of Origin of the Cold War
Červenka, Jaroslav ; Calda, Miloš (advisor) ; Litera, Bohuslav (referee)
This bachelor's work deals with the reasons of the genesis of the Cold War. The work analyzes the reasons of the conflict during World War Two and the first years after. It's written about the first steps in the conflict, the diplomatic negotiations between the Soviet Union and western countries during the time of the problems at the end of the world war two, especially conferences of the Big Three, problems in Greece, Turkey and Iran. I analyze the steps to the cold war like the Truman doctrine and Marshall plan. The Soviet Union guilt is undeniable, but there is a lot of new information that shows blame of western countries, especially the United States. This is the reason why I write this work, this theme is absolutely not ended and slowly opening archives show a lot of new details about the start of the conflict. I want to compare the policy of both sides during world war two and first years after the end of the world conflict and find the problematic decisions of the western countries. I recognized that instead of the common opinion of the only guilt of the Soviet Union, we can find many problematic decisions from the Unite States contributed the beginning of the Cold War. The development of English-language historiography of Stalinism during the Cold War
Martinek, Jan ; Kolenovská, Daniela (advisor) ; Litera, Bohuslav (referee)
The bachelor thesis deals with the development of historiography of Stalinism discipline in the West, its origin and fundamental milestones, in the context of international relations of the Cold War. The aim of this work is to compare the extent to which Stalinism was interpreted in the West and in the East in a similar way, and evaluate to what extent there was the same thematization and periodization. The thesis deals with the issues that were associated with various foreign policy swings of the Cold War, and analyzes how significant the legitimizing role of this discipline was in the West. The most important milestones and trends in the field are examined through a combination of historiographical interpretation and comparison of publications written by relevant researchers of this field. The thesis states that assessments of Joseph Stalin's government converged in the West and East in parallel with warming of mutual relations and alienated with their cooling, yet it cannot be argued that Western historiography of Stalinism served as a purely legitimizing tool of policy toward the East.
Islam in the society of Ferghana valley during the tsarist and Soviet governments
