Fajmonová, Veronika ; Huck, Averil ; Andreska, Zuzana ; Dvořáčková, Jana ; Linková, Marcela ; Struzińska, K. ; Strid, S. ; Hearn, J. ; Husu, L. ; Allori, A. ; Wuiame, N.
The objective of this report is to establish a European baseline of policies in place to combat Gender-Based Violence (GBV) at the legal, policy level and the level of research funding organisations (RFO), as a fixed point of reference for future comparisons, by assessing existing laws and policies at the national and RFO levels in 27 countries in the EU. This is accompanied by analyses of four Associated Countries (Iceland, Serbia, Turkey, UK) and two Third Countries (Canada, USA) that were selected for comparison and as examples of existing practices. The analysis focuses specifically on dedicated legal and policy frameworks focused specifically on universities and research organisations, in order to map the special efforts made by national and regional authorities and RFOs to combat GBV at these specific institutions beyond generic anti-discrimination legislation and labour law protections.\n
Academics 2018: Proposals for Measures to Support Equality in Research and Higher Education
Linková, Marcela ; Cidlinská, Kateřina ; Fárová, Nina ; Maříková, Hana ; Tenglerová, Hana ; Vohlídalová, Marta
This document is an outcome of the research project Analysis of Barriers to and Support Strategy for Gender Equality in Science and Research implemented in 2017 and 2018 by the Institute of Sociology of the Czech Academy of Sciences as part of the Operational Programme Employment (Reg. No. CZ.03.1.51/0.0/0.0/15_02 8/0003571). \nThe objective of the project was to develop recommendations for action to advance gender equality in research and development for the state administration and other key national players in research policy-making (the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, the Research, Development and Innovation Council, the Czech Science Foundation, the Technology Agency of the CR). Additional measures have been developed for higher education and research institutions and their umbrella organisations (Czech Rectors' Conference, the Czech Academy of Sciences). Moreover, the document aims to serve government bodies responsible for gender equality agendas (the Gender Equality Department of the Government of the CR). The measures have been proposed on the assumption that for their successful implementation it is necessary to ensure synergy between the state administration and research and higher education institutions. Due emphasis is also placed on the role and responsibility of senior researchers.\nThe document is unique in that it builds on an in-depth analysis of the working conditions and barriers to career progression in research and development. It is the first study of the working conditions in research in the CR of such a comprehensive nature. The summary of the main findings is presented in the annexes to this document. This is a working document. Its aim is to encourage discussion about the measures proposed. We welcome your feedback, be it in the form of email or as part of face-to-face conversations. Authors also welcome further suggestions.\n

Charles University in Prague Faculty of Social Sciences Institute of Sociological Studies Sociology Marcela Linková Doctoral dissertation Disciplining science: The impacts of shifting governmentality regimes on academic research in the natural sciences in the Czech Republic English abstract The dissertation Disciplining science: The impacts of shifting governmentality regimes on academic research in the natural sciences in the Czech Republic is a contribution to the study of institutional changes of the academic environment. I examine changes occurring in the last two decades in academic knowledge-making, and specifically in the natural sciences. Concretely, I focus on research assessment as an increasingly dominant practice of quality control. Previous analyses of the research assessment system in the Czech Republic argue that the system has been designed to suit primarily the practices of the natural sciences (Linkova and Stockelova 2012; Stockelova 2012). In this dissertation I am therefore interested in what forms research assessment takes in the natural sciences and what impacts it is having in terms of knowledge making practices, formation of researchers' subjectivities and, lastly, in terms of the future of research in the natural sciences. With this study I contribute to research into institutional...
Occurrence and prevalence of sexual harassment on Czech high schools
Sedláčková, Jana ; Pavlík, Petr (advisor) ; Linková, Marcela (referee)
The aim of my thesis is to discover how prevalent the sexual harassment by teachers at Czech secondary schools is and how students perceive such described problematic behaviour. In the theoretical section, I describe the history of origin of the term sexual harassment abroad as well as in the Czech Republic. Further, I present its definitions and Czech legislation of this phenomenon. Consequently, the readers will learn about theories of sexual harassment in the academic setting and about findings of some foreign and Czech researches recently held on this topic. Finally, the last chapter of the theoretical part is devoted to specific setting of secondary schools with emphasis on the main functions of educational institutions. I also point out consequences of adolescent students' sexual harassment. The empirical part then describes a chosen method - quantitative survey research - and its practical use. After that, the findings are presented and analyzed. Besides the overall occurrence of sexual harassment at Czech secondary schools I also focus on the comparison of this phenomenon perception between boys and girls and also among different types of Czech secondary schools.
Harassment of female and male high school and university students by teachers - comparison
Fifková, Kateřina ; Pavlík, Petr (advisor) ; Linková, Marcela (referee)
The goal of my thesis is to compare the density and perception of sexual harrasment by teachers at high schools and universities. In the theoretical part of my work I present the concepts which I am basing my thesis at. I explain the evolution of the term sexual harassment and its multiple definitions. I also discuss the meaning and role of education in the society and the specifics of sexual harrasment in a relationship of a student and their teacher. Finally, I also review relevant Czech and international studies. The empirical part of my thesis is based on two studies by the Department of Gender Studies - one being concentrated on high schools, second at universities. I compare and interpret selected data. I focus primarily on the difference between the occurence of sexual harassment at both levels of education and how it is perceived. I also interpret the gender differences.
