Association of Libraries of Czech Universities: inception, structure and present determination

Bakalářská práce se zabývá oblastí vysokoškolského knihovnictví. Úvodní část stručně popisuje prostředí vysokoškolských knihoven v historickém vývoji. Druhá část zachycuje okolnosti vzniku Asociace knihoven vysokých škol České republiky (AKVŠ) a tuto organizaci blíže formálně charakterizuje. Dále uvádí legislativu, která je spjata s vysokoškolskými knihovnami. Třetí část popisuje organizační strukturu AKVŠ včetně činnosti jejích tří odborných komisí. Čtvrtá část se zaměřuje na spolupráci dalších organizací s AKVŠ, které blíže představuje. V předposlední části jsou vypsány hlavní cíle, které si AKVŠ vytýčila do budoucna nebo ve kterých bude pokračovat, a v závěru je vysloveno přání, aby AKVŠ byla i nadále oporou pro knihovny vysokých škol.

Developing information literacy in the high school environment: course syllabus draft on the example of Jan Palach's high school in Prague

Britain is the country with a long tradition of immigration. Over many years it witnessed the arrival of immigrants and refugees from the whole world. Nevertheless the unprecedented extent of immigration from the Commonwealth countries of the former British Empire after the Second World War was unexpected. It caused profound and irreversible change in the British society as a whole. This thesis deals with a description and interpretation of a series of key issuees related to immigration from New Commonwealth (especially from Indian subcontinent) in 1945-1971. Main reasons for "coloured immigration" were an increasing demand for low skilled and unskilled labour in United Kingdom and the 1948 British Nationality Act, which gave Commonwealth citizens right to enter, work and settle in the British Isles. I am concerned with issues of immigrants' employment, housing, education as well as with the attitudes and responses of indigenous whites. Even though the British consider themselves to be "tolerant people" immigrants faced up to prejudices, discrimination, racism, verbal abuse and physical attacks in Britain. White hostility toward coloured immigrants manifested itself in the form of the Notting Hill Riots in 1958. The role of framework education programme for basic education in information literacy of pupils at pripary schools

My rigorous thesis descibes the role of Framework Education Pragramme for Basic Education in rising of Information Literacy of pupils at Primary Schools. The theoretic part is dedicated to detailed description of dilemma with a view to Framework Education Pragramme for Basic Education, information literacy, information literacy courses and school libraries, the practical part thereafter represents the particular Primary Schools, where I have checked the successful anchorage of Framework Education Programme for Basic Education. Each school approach individually to Framework Education Pragramme for Basic Education and consequently to School Education 4 Programme too and schools also have inequal support in information literacy during education. The results of my survey is qualitatively evaluated at the end of my rigorous thesis.

Transformation of CTU libraries' collection: Library of Congress Classification implementation

Diplomová práce se zabývá transformací knihovních fondů ČVUT, která je nezbytným předpokladem pro stěhování fondů knihoven ČVUT do Národní technické knihovny (NTK). Velká část knihovních fondů bude v NTK zpřístupněna volně a stavěna podle Třídění Kongresové knihovny (LCC). Cílem práce je popsat implementaci LCC v podmínkách knihoven ČVUT. V první části jsou představeny knihovny ČVUT a projekt NTK. V další části je podrobně analyzován fond knihoven ČVUT. Analýza se týká zejména skladby fondů podle typu dokumentů a podle obsahového hlediska. Hlavní těžiště práce spočívá v představení LCC a jeho implementaci v knihovnách ČVUT. Proces implementace LCC se zabývá především lidskými zdroji, metodikou práce s LCC a softwarovou podporou celého procesu.

Educational aspects of information science and information profession

Ph.D. thesis focuses on information science and information profession issues related to the education. Information literacy and information education development in the environment of various information institutions appears to be one of the crucial topics. Educational aspects of the information science are placed in the context of other scientific disciplines and the need of an interdisciplinary discussion and cooperation is emphasized. A theoretical background of the Ph.D. thesis is built on studies originating not only from the information science, but also from philosophy, theory of cultural institutions and education. The new concepts are defined, describing roles and competences of teaching librarians. The role of information professionals in school and academic libraries is described in detail. Educational activities in the information industry environment are mentioned as well. The closing chapter focuses on LIS education and the way library schools prepare their graduates to provide education and instruction. Conclusions are supported by the analysis of surveys performed. The results of relevant projects are described.

Information education in the context of a small special library: on the example of the Library of Institute of Geology, Czech Academy of Sciences

Tématem práce je charakteristika prostředí knihovny Geologického ústavu AV ČR v.v.i., specifik, která provázejí práci knihovníka a služby, které tato instituce svým klientům poskytuje. Diplomová práce se zaměřuje na oblast informačního vzdělávání uživatelů odborné knihovny a na formy a metody informačního vzdělávání, jež lze v rámci dané instituce použít. Součástí práce je zpráva o výzkumu, jenž byl proveden mezi vědeckými pracovníky Geologického ústavu AV ČR v.v.i., na téma hodnocení spokojenosti, důležitosti a frekvence využívání služeb poskytovaných knihovnou. Respondenti hodnotili též možnosti informačního vzdělávání v knihovně. Práce se snaží odhalit slabé i silné stránky zmíněné knihovny a navrhuje další postupy a řešení pro zkvalitnění služeb poskytovaných uživatelům.

Access to information collections for disabled users in academic libraries

Tématem práce je analýza současné úrovně služeb vysokoškolských knihoven uživatelům se zdravotním postižením. Práce se zabývá problematikou přístupnosti informačních zdrojů pro handicapované, zejména fyzickou přístupností fondů knihoven pro tělesně postižené uživatele. Předmětem zájmu je rovněž problematika percepce informací u zrakově a sluchově postižených. Součástí práce je také popis služeb a nástrojů k odstranění bariér při využívání IT zrakově handicapovanými uživateli. Důraz je kladen na zajištění svobodného přístupu k informacím v klasické i elektronické formě. Zmiňována je také důležitost informační gramotnosti pro celoživotní vzdělávání, které je nezbytností pro úspěšné uplatnění se v současné společnosti. Cílem práce je podat přehled o problematice přístupu k informacím ze strany handicapovaných uživatelů a zhodnocení současného stavu služeb vysokoškolských knihoven na základě provedeného průzkumu.

Education by reading and education towards reading

Tématem práce je výchova dětí, mládeže, dospělých a starých lidí k četbě, a také snaha o výchovu těchto skupin pomocí četby. Cílem diplomové práce je zjištění stavu a způsobů čtenářské výchovy v České republice. Jednotlivé způsoby výchovy se od sebe liší v závislosti na věku jedinců, na způsobu výchovy v rodině a ve škole. Dalším faktorem ovlivňujícím čtenářskou výchovu je způsob chování v dospělosti a schopnost začlenění se do sociálních skupin. Praktickou částí diplomové práce jsou dotazníky vytvořené pro žáky 1. - 5. tříd základních škol. K vyhodnocení nejsou použity grafy, vzhledem k tomu, že bylo částečně použito i otevřených otázek, a proto i statistiky jsou zpracovány pouze částečně.

The thesis can be divided into three main parts, theoretical, analytical and empirical. The first two chapters focus on the theory in the field of reading literacy, specifics of younger schoolchildren, furthermore focuses on the working environment of children's librarians, their competence and skills, particularly in education and basic methods of work with children. The next two chapters have analytical character and they examine reading literacy support abroad.
