Mariana Kubištová CZECH ARCHITECTURAL PHOTOGRAPHY IN THE 1920s TO THE 1950s Abstract The thesis Czech Architectural Photography in the 1920s to the 1950s presents the theme of architecture photography, from the 1920's to the 1950's, focusing on Czech cultural setting, observing photography meeting contemporary acts in the field of architecture, thus the photography of modern architecture. It methodologically researches the theme from a visual study viewpoint; however it applies a little more traditional approaches, which try to define architecture photography depending on functions it carries out; to demarcate its various categories, describe its history and name some of its important representatives. Each of these approaches is able to capture a different aspect of the observed theme. The first part of the thesis attempts to answer what architecture photography is, what we can qualify as architecture photography and how we can approach and interpret it. It summarizes research and knowledge of this field up till now, not just within Czech cultural setting but also abroad. Last but not least, it tries to outline historical, social and artistic context of the researched era. The second part counts with the presumption that the core and the biggest volume of visual material lies in the field of professional...

Applied graphic work of the painter Jiří Balcar
Špinková, Tereza ; Klimešová, Marie (advisor) ; Lahoda, Vojtěch (referee)
The Bachelor thesis Applied graphic work of the painter Jiří Balcar aims to discover and summarize Balcar's applied work throughout his life. The thesis is divided into two main parts: the first deals with the layout of books and periodicals, the second one looks at the design of film posters. The chapter on designing the book outlines the problem of illustration. The main focus of this study was to find a connection between Balcar's paintings and applied art. The same way as in Balcar's graphics and paintings, he goes through applied arts from expressionist depiction of a man in the city over lettristic Decrees to abstraction. After 1965 he returns again to figuration and to a man, surrounded by artifacts, referring to the modern contemporary world. However, in addition to this broad similarity, making posters and some graphic design publications shows another dimension of his work that does not appear in the paintings and graphics. This thesis is primarily a monograph; the Czech environment and the global context had to be completely removed due to the limited scope of this work.

Art group 12/15 Better Late than Never
Jungová, Markéta ; Lahoda, Vojtěch (advisor) ; Potůčková, Alena (referee)
The free art group called "12/15 Pozdě, ale přece" was founded on the 3th of June 1987 in Václav Bláha's studio. However, the beginnings of collective activities of its members are to be found already in the first half of the 70's when these artists started to exhibit their art together. During those beginnings and through all the time of normalization, too, they found their place in exhibition rooms of the alternative (unofficial) culture. Hence, they had no chance to present themselves adequately enough. Besides their close friendship, it was one of the reasons of establishing an art group. The members of 12/15 were not unified by any collective art program. It was a group of individuals freely creating and thinking. Its founding members were: Václav Bláha, Vladimír Novák, Petr Pavlík, Michael Rittstein, Ivan Kafka, Ivan Ouhel, Jiří Beránek, Kurt Gebauer, Jaroslav Dvořák and Tomáš Švéda. Since their second exhibition (1988) Jiří Načeradský become a new member, and since the third one (1990) Jiří Sopko. Gradually this circle has expanded by joining a cultural worker Jiří Halík, and a group manager Josef Vomáčka. During the years 1988-1996 they organized 7 collective exhibitions. To each of them some propagation materials were created: posters, flags, invitation cards and so on; an author of their graphical...
Eurasianism and the "Skify" group 1930-1933
Hauser, Jakub ; Lahoda, Vojtěch (advisor) ; Jančárková, Julie (referee)
Eurasianism was a strong intellectual movement among the interwar community of émigrés from Russia and it was reflected in a number of fields in the arts and sciences, including history, linguistics, literature and the fine arts. Transplanting this theory into the fine arts signified a departure from the Western artistic tradition and an attempt to create a new visual code that would express the idea of the wild and anti-European roots of Russian culture. In the large émigré community in Prague this concept was reflected most powerfully in the work of a group called the Scythians (Skify), which was founded at the end of the 1920's by the painter and professor of Ukrainian fine arts studies in Prague, Sergei Mako. The group's programme was formulated by its chair, the art historian Jaromír Pečírka, and the writer and journalist František Kubka, both of whom were linked to the editorial office of the German-language daily Prager Presse. The group had three exhibitions between 1931 and 1933 at Denis's French Institute in Prague and its membership base comprised Nikolai Rodionov and Alexandr Orlov, both of whom were students of Mako, and the painter Grigori Musatov, the sculptors Evgeni Brzezinski and Alexandr Golovin, and the Paris-based painters Boris Grigoriev and Mykola Hlushchenko. Czech artists exhibited...

The women - artists in second half of the 19th century
Kuthanová, Kateřina ; Prahl, Roman (advisor) ; Lahoda, Vojtěch (referee)
The women-artists of the 19th century seem to be a real apparition from a view of the today's and fully emancipated woman. They were the ones who started an almost discovering journey - not just the art one, but also, and first of all, the social and the cultural-sociable. Despite of hard conditions they managed to enrich creative lines as well as to extend painting genres also to participate in raising an artisan's up to the "high" arts. Many here named woman-artists outlined the wide development of the woman-art by their creativity. I would like to remind some of them - some ofthe greatest and most talented woman-artists. Their desire to a professional enforce through their studies abroad went to fading of art influences into the Czech country. My school work - following of a lanscape creativity, beside not too omited the one called Zdenka Braunerova, wants also to mention another important woman -an artist Marie Kirschnerova. Her realistic pictures were influented by the trench painting. She was one of the first ones who has brought an influence of ,;'Sarbison" painting into the Czech country. Beside her landscape creativity, her glass production for one famous "Lotzov" glasshouse exceles in Kirschnerova's creation. Her glass production is distinguished by simplifying forms and a sober decoration and in...
