It also deals with the reasons, how such dilemma could arise. And if it really is only a myth, how it could persist until today? Analysis of sources and arguments shows the conclusion, that each party of the dispute has its part of truth. The Holocaust was rather the marginal topic of public debate in the 1950s. There were multiple reasons to think so. Mainly, it was a political situation in the USA, than the survivors did not want to talk about their traumas or the society did not want to listen. Marečková, Adéla ; Kubátová, Hana (advisor) ; Gelnarová, Jitka (referee)
This master thesis "Anti-Jewish propaganda during the Second Czechoslovak Republic in selected periodicals" analyses four journals for evidence of anti-Semitic manifestations. Jewish question in the second half of the Thirties of the 20th century resonated throughout whole Europe, including Czechoslovakia. On the territory of the Second Republic was the situation for the Jewish population, unlike other European countries, relatively bearable. However, it is possible to observe the practices of anti-Jewish propaganda, for example labeling of Jewish shops, or anti-Semitic texts published in papers. Periodicals based in Czechoslovakia in the period from October 1938 to March 1939 can be divided into three groups according to the classification of Petr Bednarik. In the first group there are newspapers with anti-Semitic articles, among them the National Policy. The second selected journal Czech Word belongs to the group of periodicals, which was trying not to publish articles about this topic, and the third group, which rejected anti-Semitic attacks, include the periodicals the People's Right and the National Labour. Cardioprotection induced by changes in abiotic environmental factors
Kubátová, Hana ; Vybíral, Stanislav (advisor) ; Žurmanová, Jitka (referee)
Cardiovascular diseases are one of the most frequent causes of death worldwide. Methods of limiting the ischemia-reperfusion injury, which occurs as a result of acute myocardial infarction (MI), have therefore been receiving significant attention. Preconditioning through ischemia application, cold exposure or physical exercise reduces the size of an infarction and the occurrence of ventricular arrhythmias. The exact mechanism behind this process has not yet been fully comprehended; nevertheless important roles are played by factors such as the maintenance of calcium homeostasis, the opening of ATP-dependent potassium channels (KATP) and the prevention of the Mitochondrial Permeability Transition pore (MPTP) opening. Chronic hypoxia and exercise have also been proven to have a cardioprotective effect, which is to be at least partially attributed to the intensified activity of antioxidant enzymes and the opening of KATP. During winter the risk of MI is increased for a wide range of patients. In winter swimmers, the stress caused by a cold stimulus is reduced. However, a mild stress is necessary to initiating cardioprotection. At present, there is unfortunately insufficient information available regarding the effects of long term cold adaptation on the size reduction of MI. Some studies suggest,...

Géryk, Jan ; Gelnarová, Jitka (advisor) ; Kubátová, Hana (referee)
This bachelor thesis deals with the question of race in the discourse of representatives of the woman suffrage movement in the USA. Its goal is to find out how was the theme of race used in the effort of women to achieve the right to vote, where the main focus is on the discourse of Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Susan B. Anthony as the leading figures of white middle class American feminism and suffragism. The thesis uses the method of critical discourse analysis and tries to find out how were black men, black women, or white women themselves (in order to compare themselves with other groups of people) presented by the authors during the campaign for the voting rights. Very important for the thesis is the relation text-context, the relation between speeches or articles of the authors and social conditions of the period. That is why this thesis deals with the wider context of authors' discourse, especially with the history of voting rights in the USA and the history of woman rights movement. The description in the thesis starts before the American Civil War, then it goes through the Reconstruction period, when the important constitutional amendments were passed, through 1870s and 1880s, to the end of the 19th century, when the Southern states introduced new limitations of the voting rights. The aim of...

Černá, Veronika ; Hindlsová, Lucie (advisor) ; Kubátová, Hana (referee)
Master's thesis deals with the status of Israeli Arabs within the political system of the State of Israel. For analysis of this topic two approaches were selected. First, attention is concentrated on the historical development of status of Israeli Arabs from the establishment of Israel to the present day. Subsequently, selected problematic areas in the relationship between Israeli Arabs and Israel are analyzed. These areas include: obtaining Israeli citizenship, ownership of land, compulsory military service in Israeli army, participation in political and judicial institutions, official languages, and national symbols. As it turns out, Israel disadvantages status of Israeli Arabs in many areas. However, the whole issue is not entirely unequivocal because in some cases, Israeli Arabs cause their disadvantaged status by their attitude.
The Experience of the Holocaust: The Fate and Works of Jean Améry a Primo Levi
Štětinová, Veronika ; Putík, Daniel (advisor) ; Kubátová, Hana (referee)
The topic of the present thesis is "The Experience of Holocaust: The Fate and Works of Jean Améry and Primo Levi". Both authors experienced imprisonment in concentration camps due to their Jewish origin, and this fact is reflected in their works. The thesis aims to follow the parallels in the lives and works of both the authors. Jean Améry and Primo Levi came from nonpracticing Jewish families. This determined their own attitude towards Jewishness. Both of them joined the resistance during World War Two and were consequently sent to the concentration camp in Auschwitz. Apart from Auschwitz, Jean Améry was transported to two other camps. When WWII finished, they began to reflect their experience in their works. Jean Améry, as well as Primo Levi committed suicide many years after the war. In comparison with other authors writing about the Holocaust (Theodor W. Adorno, Hannah Arendt, Bruno Bettelheim, Viktor Frankl or Raul Hilberg), Jean Améry and Primo Levi addressed more specific, and to a certain point similar problems. For Jean Améry, the essential topic is the status of an intellectual in Auschwitz, but Primo Levi reflects upon this too. Other themes recurrent in the work of both authors include: existence or non- existence of God, the question of collective guilt of the German nation or the...
