Censorship as a political instrument for defending the republic

Bachelor thesis concerns the censorship of the press in czech language in first Czechoslovak republic. It focuses on the period in the beginning of 1930s, when the censorship grows in intensity against the press of anti-system parties - fascist and communist sheets. Thesis follows the development of press law to 1933, when efforts of economic and political stability culminated. And also because of the so-called small press law, which was adopted by government in July 1933, the censorship was stricter and many periodicals was stopped. Censorship measures was in conflict with the democratic idea of the state, but limites of its using and the times of anti-democratic dangers became its defense and the crisis lead to the rise of the "militant democracy".

The impact of the arrival of displaced Germans for the economic development of the Federal Republic of Germany.

The objective of this work is to analyze the influence of the arrival of expelled Germans on postwar reconstruction of West Germany in connection with their labor market integration. The precondition how to become an active participant on the economy recovery is a stable job. The conclusion of this work is, that expelled Germans were from the beginning an active part of postwar economic reconstruction of Germany, despite of the fact, that there were some structural problems in the economy like a black market, lack of accommodation facilities in the cities or unequable dislocation of these people in the occupied zones. These problems were removed by the currency and economy reforms. After the reforms came in sight, that expelled Germans represented a positive part of the economic reconstruction in form of free, qualified and cheap labour force, which could be purposefully use. This evaluation is based on critical interpretation of the facts received from the literature, scholarly articles and Internet sources.

GDR-Nostalgia in the Former East Germany and Politics of Memory of the PDS

In 1990 when the GDR and FRG were united, there was a lot of optimism about the future of the new state. However, after few years after this historical event, both West and East Germans felt disillusioned by the transformation process. The sensation of the East Germans was named GDR-nostalgia or the so called Ostalgie, nostalgic longing for the former GDR. This feeling was rooted both in the objective socio-economic situation and in the feeling of loss in the biographies of the East Germans. This paper deals with the political dimension of the GDR-nostalgia, focusing on the political party PDS, a successor party of the communist state party SED. Despite the pessimistic prophecies about the PDS the party was growing steadily in the East. The East Germans felt that the party represents their particular interests in the united Germany. Yet the PDS didn't use a chance to deal critically with its controversial history. The hypothesis is, that the party, by presenting an idealistic version of the GDR past to the public and their potential voters, tried to strengthen the nostalgia feeling in order to gain votes. To prove the thesis the structure of the party, its program and history institutions will be examined. The concept of politics of memory will be described.

Germany's current position on the issue of immigrant integration (in the context of legislative measures in the Immigration Act - "Zuwanderungsgesetz")

The aim of this study is to analyze the German approach to the issue of immigrants' integration. I look at this problem from the point of view of a new legislative framework. This work should show how immigration laws influenced local integration policy. The law had great ambitions to improve the situation regarding the integration of immigrants. I am trying to discover its qualities but also to identify its drawbacks. First, there is outlined a problematic situation that led to the adoption of this law. There is described the situation and circumstances under which the law originated. Since the very first measure dealing with issues of integration, I show how specific solutions of supporting the integration of immigrants the law offers. I analyzed the form of a pro-active integration policy, which was established by this Act. The greatest attention was paid to linguistic integration. The Act established partially compulsory integration courses to promote the integration. Finally, I try to show the problems that Germany must deal with concerning the application of the statutory provisions. Bachelor thesis Opposition in the GDR and its Connection to the Czech Dissent. Mutual Contacts at the Turn of 1970s and 1980s offers a new point of view on the oppositional movement in the German Democratic Republic (GDR) at the turn of the 1970s and 1980s, as it is based on the comparison with the oppositional movement in Czechoslovakian Socialistic Republic (CSSR). The work concentrates on the contacts between the representatives of the opposition from both countries and on the possible topics of their cross-border cooperation in the period between the Final Act of the Conference of Security and Cooperation in Europe in 1975 and the election of Mikhail Gorbachev as the leader of the Soviet Union in 1985. Although the traditions of the East German oppositional movement were different to the traditions of the opposition in the CSSR, there were intensive contacts between both groups (usually individual) at the turn of the 1970s and 1980s. The relations between Austria and the Federal Republic of Germany in the era Kreisky (1970-1983). A view on the topics

Diploma thesis "The Relations between Austria and the Federal Republic of Germany in the Era Kreisky (1970-1983) - A View on the Topics" deals with Austro-German relations in 1970-1983. An intense cooperation of three social democratic chancellors - Bruno Kreisky, Willy Brandt and Helmut Schmidt - took place on the the background of increasing international tensions. The traditionally close though asymmetrical relationship between the two countries was strengthened by the friendship of Kreisky and Brandt and by their cooperation on a bilateral and multilateral level. This thesis focuses on the topics of the bilateral relationship. In the first part of the work, the author is asking about the subject of the relationship. Which topics were discussed? What were the problems between the two states? How were they solved? However, the relations were not only made by the officially discussed topics but by traditional topics as well. In the second part of her diploma thesis, the author is following the process of the Austrian identity change during 1945-83 together with the perspective of traditional themes in the relations - anschluss and the Nazi past.
