Gender differences in juvenile delinquency
Konopásková, Eliška ; Podaná, Zuzana (advisor) ; Buriánek, Jiří (referee)
This thesis focuses on the analysis of delinquency from the point of view of R. Agnew's general strain theory, using data from the International Self-Report Delinquency Study 3 (ISRD 3), which relate to the area of strain. The aim of this thesis is to verify the connection between selected aspects of strain and delinquency and then try to identify differences between boys and girls. In the theoretical part of the thesis, attention is paid first to the general strain theory and then to its later extension that includes the perspective of gender. Hypotheses are defined based on the presented theory. In the methodological part, ISRD research is described and the self-report survey method is also introduced. In the last part, which is devoted data analysis, the proposed hypotheses are tested using regression analysis. The result is that the effect of morality is stronger for girls, but no significant differences between boys and girls are confirmed for the effect of crime in the neighborhood and also for the effect of experiencing a difficult life event. Keywords: gender differences, juvenile delinquency, ISRD-3, general strain theory

The main topic of this thesis youth delinquency, with focus on gender differences. Its main approach is to introduce the topic of youth delinquency using the Robert Agnew's (1992) General strain theory. Using this theory we will define and then test three hypotheses. The hypotheses will be tested on data collected within the ISRD-3 project in the Czech Republic. The structure of this thesis is divided into a theoretical part, in which we will first briefly introduce Strain theory. After that, we will focus more on introduction of the General strain theory. Then, the theoretical part will focus in more detail on the later General strain theory where gender perspective is discussed in detail. Conclusions of this gender perspective will be introduced at the end of this theoretical part. After that, three hypotheses will be defined and then we be tested in the analytical part of this thesis. Aim of this thesis is to test gender differences in juvenile delinquency.
